Discrete Time Cold Standby Repairable System: Combinatorial Analysis
(Taylor & Francis inc, 2016) Eryilmaz, Serkan
In this article, we obtain exact expression for the distribution of the time to failure of discrete time cold standby repairable system under the classical assumptions that both working time and repair time of components are geometric. Our method is based on alternative representation of lifetime as a waiting time random variable on a binary sequence, and combinatorial arguments. Such an exact expression for the time to failure distribution is new in the literature. Furthermore, we obtain the probability generating function and the first two moments of the lifetime random variable.

Multi Input Dynamical Modeling of Heat Flow With Uncertain Diffusivity Parameter
(Taylor & Francis inc, 2003) Efe, MÖ; Özbay, H
This paper focuses on the multi-input dynamical modeling of one-dimensional heat conduction process with uncertainty on thermal diffusivity parameter. Singular value decomposition is used to extract the most significant modes. The results of the spatiotemporal decomposition have been used in cooperation with Galerkin projection to obtain the set of ordinary differential equations, the solution of which synthesizes the temporal variables. The spatial properties have been generalized through a series of test cases and a low order model has been obtained. Since the value of the thermal diffusivity parameter is not known perfectly, the obtained model contains uncertainty. The paper describes how the uncertainty is modeled and how the boundary conditions are separated from the remaining terms of the dynamical equations. The results have been compared with those obtained through analytic solution.

Potential of Removing Trace Elements From a Turkish Lignite
(Taylor & Francis inc, 2010) Ozbayoglu, Gulhan
Lignite is a significant source for producing electricity in Turkey. However, the hazardous trace elements content, namely, vanadium (V), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), arsenic (As), thorium (Th), and uranium (U), are much higher than those observed around the world. In this article, the potential of removing the trace elements from the Lignite obtained from the Soma mine using the gravity separation principles is discussed. The float-sink studies conducted using heavy liquid of 1.3 and 1.9 specific gravities identified that removal of the trace elements from the Soma lignite ranged from 15% to 83%.

Cybersecurity Deep: Approaches, Attacks Dataset, and Comparative Study
(Taylor & Francis inc, 2022) Barik, Kousik; Misra, Sanjay; Konar, Karabi; Fernandez-Sanz, Luis; Murat, Koyuncu
Cyber attacks are increasing rapidly due to advanced digital technologies used by hackers. In addition, cybercriminals are conducting cyber attacks, making cyber security a rapidly growing field. Although machine learning techniques worked well in solving large-scale cybersecurity problems, an emerging concept of deep learning (DL) that caught on during this period caused information security specialists to improvise the result. The deep learning techniques analyzed in this study are convolution neural networks, recurrent neural networks, and deep neural networks in the context of cybersecurity.A framework is proposed, and a real-time laboratory setup is performed to capture network packets and examine this captured data using various DL techniques. A comparable interpretation is presented under the DL techniques with essential parameters, particularly accuracy, false alarm rate, precision, and detection rate. The DL techniques experimental output projects improvise the performance of various real-time cybersecurity applications on a real-time dataset. CNN model provides the highest accuracy of 98.64% with a precision of 98% with binary class. The RNN model offers the second-highest accuracy of 97.75%. CNN model provides the highest accuracy of 98.42 with multiclass class. The study shows that DL techniques can be effectively used in cybersecurity applications. Future research areas are being elaborated, including the potential research topics to improve several DL methodologies for cybersecurity applications.

Anodic Oxidation of N-Substituted Dipyrrolyl Linked by Polyether Bridge
(Taylor & Francis inc, 2006) Cihaner, Atilla
Electroactive polymer containing polyether pseudo-cages has been synthesized by anodic oxidation of 1,11-bis(1,1-pyrrole)-3,6,9-trioxaundecane (I) using acetonitrile (ACN) as solvent and tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAClO 4 ) as supporting electrolyte. Electrochemical behavior of monomer I and its polymer, poly-I , were studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and UV-VIS spectroscopic techniques. Also, a doping/dedoping study was carried out using electron spin resonance (ESR) and UV-VIS spectroscopic techniques. Thermal behavior of the product was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA).

Reliability of Weighted k-out-of-n< g Systems Consisting of Two Types of Components and a Cold Standby Component
(Taylor & Francis inc, 2017) Franko, C.; Eryılmaz, Serkan; Tutuncu, G. Y.; Eryilmaz, S.; Eryılmaz, Serkan; Industrial Engineering; Industrial Engineering
In this article, the influence of a cold standby component to the reliability of weighted k-out-of-n: G systems consisting of two different types of components is studied. Weighted k-out-of-n: G systems are generalization of k-out-of-n systems that has attracted substantial interest in reliability theory because of their various applications in engineering. A method based on residual lifetimes of mixed components is presented for computing reliability of weighted k-out-of-n: G systems with two types of components and a cold standby component. Reliability and mean time to failure of different structured systems have been computed. Moreover, obtained results are used for defining optimal system configurations that can minimize the overall system costs.

Polynomial Logistic Distribution Associated With a Cubic Polynomial
(Taylor & Francis inc, 2017) Aksoy, Umit; Ostrovska, Sofiya; Ozban, Ahmet Yasar
Let P(x) be a polynomial monotone increasing on ( - , +). The probability distribution possessing the distribution function is called the polynomial logistic distribution with associated polynomial P. This has recently been introduced by Koutras etal., who have also demonstrated its importance for modeling financial data. In this article, the properties of the polynomial logistic distribution with an associated polynomial of degree 3 have been investigated in detail. An example of polynomial logistic distribution describing daily exchange rate fluctuations for the US dollar versus the Turkish lira is provided.

The Underlying Reasons of the Navigation Control Effect on Performance in a Virtual Reality Endoscopic Surgery Training Simulator
(Taylor & Francis inc, 2019) Cagiltay, Nergiz Ercil; Ozcelik, Erol; Berker, Mustafa; Dalveren, Gonca Gokce Menekse
Navigation control skills of surgeons become very critical for surgical procedures. Strategies improving these skills are important for developing higher-quality surgical training programs. In this study, the underlying reasons of the navigation control effect on performance in a virtual reality-based navigation environment are evaluated. The participants' performance is measured in conditions: navigation control display and paper-map display. Performance measures were collected from 45 beginners and experienced residents. The results suggest that navigation display significantly improved performance of the participants. Also, navigation was more beneficial for beginners than experienced participants. The underlying reason of the better performance in the navigation condition was due to lower number of looks to the map, which causes attention shifts between information sources. Accordingly, specific training scenarios and user interfaces can be developed to improve the navigation skills of the beginners considering some strategies to lower their number of references to the information sources.

An Intelligent Indoor Guidance and Navigation System for the Visually Impaired
    (Taylor & Francis inc, 2022) Kahraman, M.; Turhan, C.
Intelligent guidance in complex environments where various procedures are required for navigation is critical to achieving mobility for the visually impaired. This study presents a newly developed software prototype with a hybrid RFID/BLE infrastructure to provide intelligent navigation and guidance to the visually impaired in complex indoor environments. The system enables the users to input their purpose via a specially designed user interface, and provides intelligent guidance through a chain of destination targets which are determined according to the inherent procedures of the environment. Path optimization is performed by adaptation of the traveling salesman problem, and real-time instantaneous instructions are provided to guide the users through the predetermined destination points. For evaluation purposes, a hospital environment is constructed as an example of a complex environment and the system is tested by visually impaired participants. The results show that the intelligent purpose selection and destination evaluation mechanism modules of the system are found to be effective by all the participants.
