Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2On the First Time of Ruin in Two-Dimensional Discrete Time Risk Model With Dependent Claim Occurrences(Taylor & Francis inc, 2018) Eryilmaz, SerkanThis article is concerned with a two-dimensional discrete time risk model based on exchangeable dependent claim occurrences. In particular, we obtain a recursive expression for the finite time non ruin probability under such a dependence among claim occurrences. For an illustration, we define a bivariate compound beta-binomial risk model and present numerical results on this model by comparing the corresponding results of the bivariate compound binomial risk model.Article Citation - WoS: 19Software Development Outsourcing: Challenges and Opportunities in Nigeria(Taylor & Francis inc, 2014) Casado-Lumbreras, Cristina; Colomo-Palacios, Ricardo; Ogwueleka, Francisca N.; Misra, SanjayIn recent years, several emergent regions have become software development sourcing countries. This article investigates the possibilities of sub-Saharan Africa as a sourcing destination in the software field. To find out the reasons why sub-Saharan Africa countries, in general, and Nigeria, in particular, are not considered a destination for global software development projects, the authors interviewed a set of professionals from Europe and Africa. Results indicate that there are many disadvantages and difficulties impeding Nigeria from becoming a preferred sourcing destination, mainly the absence of a strong software industry and the concerns about legislative, fiscal, and commercial premises. On the other hand, it is observed that there are also relevant added values and competitive advantages in Nigeria (English-speaking country, same time zone, and cost); therefore, it can become a potential target for software development outsourcing in the medium and long terms.Article Citation - WoS: 22Citation - Scopus: 22The impact of the using high-fidelity simulation and standardized patients to management of postpartum hemorrhage in undergraduate nursing students: A randomized controlled study in Turkey(Taylor & Francis inc, 2019) Karadas, Merve Mert; Terzioglu, FusunWe examined the efficiency of different simulation methods for the improvement of knowledge and skills of nursing students in the management of postpartum hemorrhage. A total of 84 nursing students participated in the study. Data were obtained using a Semi-Structured Questionnaire Form, Student Satisfaction Evaluation Form, Effective Communication Skills Checklist, Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and Skills Evaluation Form for Postpartum Bleeding Management. We suggest that the use of different simulation methods may be effective in improving the knowledge and skills of nursing students in the management of postpartum hemorrhage.Article Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 6Discrete Time Cold Standby Repairable System: Combinatorial Analysis(Taylor & Francis inc, 2016) Eryilmaz, SerkanIn this article, we obtain exact expression for the distribution of the time to failure of discrete time cold standby repairable system under the classical assumptions that both working time and repair time of components are geometric. Our method is based on alternative representation of lifetime as a waiting time random variable on a binary sequence, and combinatorial arguments. Such an exact expression for the time to failure distribution is new in the literature. Furthermore, we obtain the probability generating function and the first two moments of the lifetime random variable.Article Citation - WoS: 18Citation - Scopus: 21Research Trends in Management Issues of Global Software Development: Evaluating the Past To Envision the Future(Taylor & Francis inc, 2011) Mishra, Deepti; Mishra, AlokThis paper presents research trends in management issues (project management, process management, knowledge management, requirements management, configuration management, risk management, quality management) of distributed/global information system development. The main objective is to highlight the current research and practice direction in these areas. The results are based on peer-reviewed conference papers/journal articles, published between 2000 and early 2011. The analysis revealed that most research has been done in project management, process management, knowledge management and requirements management areas while configuration, risk, and quality management issues could get only limited attention in global/distributed information system development. This indicates the need for future research (quantitative and qualitative) in these areas.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 5Electrochemical Polymerization of Para-Substituted Haloanilines(Taylor & Francis inc, 2006) Cihaner, A; Önal, AMPolyhaloanilines: poly(4-fluoroaniline) (P4FAN), poly(4-chloroaniline) (P4CAN), and poly(4-bromoaniline) (P4BAN), are synthesized from para-substituted haloaniline monomers; 4-fluoroaniline (4FAN), 4-chloroaniline (4CAN), and 4-bromoaniline (4BAN), respectively, via constant potential electrolysis (CPE) in acetonitrile-water mixture (1:1 v/v) with NaClO4 as supporting electrolyte. Prior to CPE, electrochemical behavior of the monomers were investigated in organic medium utilizing cyclic voltammetry (CV). The course of CPE was monitored using in-situ UV-VIS spectroscopic technique. Characterization of polymer products have been carried out using FT-IR and NMR spectroscopic techniques and thermal behaviors were studied using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). Polyhaloanilines synthesized by electrochemical oxidation were doped using iodine and the change in the paramagnetic behavior was monitored by ESR, UV-VIS, and FT-IR.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 4Multi Input Dynamical Modeling of Heat Flow With Uncertain Diffusivity Parameter(Taylor & Francis inc, 2003) Efe, MÖ; Özbay, HThis paper focuses on the multi-input dynamical modeling of one-dimensional heat conduction process with uncertainty on thermal diffusivity parameter. Singular value decomposition is used to extract the most significant modes. The results of the spatiotemporal decomposition have been used in cooperation with Galerkin projection to obtain the set of ordinary differential equations, the solution of which synthesizes the temporal variables. The spatial properties have been generalized through a series of test cases and a low order model has been obtained. Since the value of the thermal diffusivity parameter is not known perfectly, the obtained model contains uncertainty. The paper describes how the uncertainty is modeled and how the boundary conditions are separated from the remaining terms of the dynamical equations. The results have been compared with those obtained through analytic solution.Article Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 8Potential of Removing Trace Elements From a Turkish Lignite(Taylor & Francis inc, 2010) Ozbayoglu, GulhanLignite is a significant source for producing electricity in Turkey. However, the hazardous trace elements content, namely, vanadium (V), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), arsenic (As), thorium (Th), and uranium (U), are much higher than those observed around the world. In this article, the potential of removing the trace elements from the Lignite obtained from the Soma mine using the gravity separation principles is discussed. The float-sink studies conducted using heavy liquid of 1.3 and 1.9 specific gravities identified that removal of the trace elements from the Soma lignite ranged from 15% to 83%.Article Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 6Anodic Oxidation of N-Substituted Dipyrrolyl Linked by Polyether Bridge(Taylor & Francis inc, 2006) Cihaner, AtillaElectroactive polymer containing polyether pseudo-cages has been synthesized by anodic oxidation of 1,11-bis(1,1-pyrrole)-3,6,9-trioxaundecane (I) using acetonitrile (ACN) as solvent and tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAClO 4 ) as supporting electrolyte. Electrochemical behavior of monomer I and its polymer, poly-I , were studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and UV-VIS spectroscopic techniques. Also, a doping/dedoping study was carried out using electron spin resonance (ESR) and UV-VIS spectroscopic techniques. Thermal behavior of the product was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA).Article Polynomial Logistic Distribution Associated With a Cubic Polynomial(Taylor & Francis inc, 2017) Aksoy, Umit; Ostrovska, Sofiya; Ozban, Ahmet YasarLet P(x) be a polynomial monotone increasing on ( - , +). The probability distribution possessing the distribution function is called the polynomial logistic distribution with associated polynomial P. This has recently been introduced by Koutras etal., who have also demonstrated its importance for modeling financial data. In this article, the properties of the polynomial logistic distribution with an associated polynomial of degree 3 have been investigated in detail. An example of polynomial logistic distribution describing daily exchange rate fluctuations for the US dollar versus the Turkish lira is provided.
