Learning is more fun and appealing in digital educational games and, as a result, it may become more effective. However, few research studies have been conducted to establish principles based on empirical research for designing engaging and entertaining games so as to improve learning. One of the essential characteristics of games that has been unexplored in the literature is the concept of uncertainty. This study examines the effect of uncertainty on learning outcomes. In order to better understand this effect on learning, a game-like learning tool was developed to teach a database concept in higher education programs of software engineering. The tool is designed in two versions: one including uncertainty and the other including no uncertainty. The experimental results of this study reveal that uncertainty enhances learning. Uncertainty is found to be positively associated with motivation. As motivation increases, participants tend to spend more time on answering the questions and to have higher accuracy in these questions. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. F.; Gasanly, N. M.Tl2InGaS4 layered crystals are studied through the dark electrical conductivity, space charge limited current and illumination- and temperature-dependent photoconductivity measurements in the temperature regions of 220-350 K, 300-400 K and 200-350 K, respectively. The space charge limited current measurements revealed the existence of a single discrete trapping level located at 0.44 eV. The dark electrical conductivity showed the existence of two energy levels of 0.32 eV and 0.60 eV being dominant above and below 300 K, respectively. The photoconductivity measurements reflected the existence of two other energy levels located at 0.28 eV and 0.19 eV at high and low temperatures, respectively. The photocurrent is observed to increase with increasing temperature up to a maximum temperature of 330 K. The illumination dependence of photoconductivity is found to exhibit supralinear recombination in all the studied temperature ranges. The change in recombination mechanism is attributed to exchange in the behavior of sensitizing and recombination centers. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. The electrochemical and electro-optical properties of the corresponding polymer, which was the first example of polymer containing 1,1'-bipyrrole units, were elaborated using electroanalytical and spectroscopic techniques. Cyclic voltammograms and electro-optical studies showed that the polymer has a stable and well-defined reversible redox process as well as electrochromic behavior. The processable polymer film also possessed a yellowish orange light emitter property. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. We obtain also several common fixed point results by using the (E.A) property. (c) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. In this manuscript, some results of Lakshmikantham and Ciric (2009) in [5] are extended to the class of cone metric spaces. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. The PSNS-BODIPY film has very stable and well-defined reversible redox couples during p-doping process. Multi-electrochromic polymer film has a band gap of 2.9 eV with two absorption bands in its neutral state at 351 and 525 nm, attributed to the polymer backbone and BODIPY subunits, respectively. The percentage transmittance changes between both states (neutral and oxidized) were found as 12.1% for 351 nm and 17.7% for 525 nm in the visible region as well as 46.2% for 1050 nm in the near-infrared region. Beyond the robustness, the PSNS-BODIPY film has high redox stability (retaining 53.3% of its electroactivity at 351 nm after 2000 switching) with a low response time of 1.0 s. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. The criterion is a modified form of a well-known criterion due to Mills, Mullis, and Roberts. The criterion is in the form of linear matrix inequality and, hence, computationally tractable. An example shows the effectiveness of the modified criterion. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. The approach presented extracts the error at the output of the controller and applies a nonlinear tuning law using this error measure. The adaptation mechanism drives the state tracking error vector to the sliding hypersurface and maintains the sliding mode. In the simulations, the approach presented has been tested on the control of Dulling oscillator and the analytical claims have been justified under the existence of measurement noise, uncertainty and large nonzero initial errors. It also is seen that the actual working conditions, on the other hand, with higher ambient temperature and continuous generated heat in the PV cells can lead to reduction in reduce their electricity generation and long-term sustainability. In the current work, the coolant (water + ethylene glycol) circulates between two heat exchangers; the minichannel heat exchanger is bounded to the PV cells and geothermal heat exchanger is buried underground, and it is set to remove the heat from PV cells to the ground. Six control factors of the geothermal cooling system are considered for the purpose of optimization using Taguchi design and main effect analysis. These parameters are pipe length, soil thermal conductivity, coolant flow rate, adjacent coil distance, pipe inner diameter and pipe thickness. The experimental results show that the average net electricity generation of the cooled PV panel is improved 9.8% compared to the PV panel without cooling system. However, with the same geothermal heat exchanger it drops to 6.2% as the cooled panel number is doubled. The simulation results reveal that the optimum configuration of the geothermal cooling system is capable of enhancing the net electricity generation of the twin cooled panels up to 11.6%. The LCOE of the optimized geothermal cooling system was calculated 0.089 euro/kWh versus the reference panel of 0.102 euro/kWh for the case study of 30 kW PV solar plant.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2On the q-bernstein Polynomials of Piecewise Linear Functions in the Case q > 1(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2013) Kaskaloglu, Kerem; Ostrovska, SofiyaThe aim of this paper is to present new results related to the approximation of continuous functions by their q-Bernstein polynomials in the case q > 1. The first part of the paper is devoted to the behavior of the q-Bernstein polynomials of piecewise linear functions. This study naturally leads to the notion of truncated q-Bernstein polynomials introduced in the paper. The second part deals with the asymptotic estimates for the norms of the m-truncated q-Bernstein polynomials, in the case where both n and q vary. The results of the paper are illustrated by numerical examples. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
