It also analyzes the role of a number of important policy-related factors, such as infrastructure investment, macroeconomic instability, and imports, on total factor productivity (TFP) by performing cointegration and impulse response analyses. The results suggest that both TFP and capital accumulation were crucial sources of growth during the sample period. Nevertheless, TFP growth displayed enormous variation from 1960 to 2004. The descriptive and empirical evidence suggests that TFP is positively affected by imports and public infrastructure investment and negatively affected by macroeconomic instability.Article How TikTok Works for Digital Diplomacy During Conflict/War Times: The Cases of Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Gaza Conflicts(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Artan Ozoran, Beris; Seyidov, Ilgar; Erdogan, BurakDuring times of conflict and war, public diplomacy undergoes a significant transformation, with strategic communication shifting from traditional channels to highly visual and participatory digital platforms. Among these, TikTok has emerged as a key arena for states to shape perceptions and mobilize international audiences. This study explores how TikTok is utilized as a tool of digital diplomacy by examining the official accounts of Ukraine and Israel during the Russia - Ukraine war and the Israel - Gaza conflict. Drawing on Strategic Narrative Theory (SNT), the analysis categorizes state-produced content into system, identity, and issue narratives and investigates how these narrative types effect audience engagement on the platform. This study examined the current status of informal payments in Turkey and the opinions, attitudes, and behavior of individuals toward informal payments. To examine this concept, 1,033 residents in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, were surveyed. The 28-item questionnaire used in data collection was developed based on previous research and expert opinions. The data analysis revealed that approximately 29% of the study participants made informal payments in return for the medical service they received. Three out of 4 people who made informal payments were from a low-income group. Informal payments were made in the form of cash prior to medical procedures and also as gifts following the procedures. Future recommendations for health policymakers include designing a new patient copay mechanism where informal payments can be effectively incorporated into the formal payment system, assistance to low-income individuals, and improvement in current medical staff salaries that would discourage taking such payments.Article Citation - WoS: 17Citation - Scopus: 20Attachment Style, Openness To Experience, and Social Contact as Predictors of Attitudes Toward Homosexuality(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2020) Metin-Orta, Irem; Metin-Camgoz, SelinConsiderable research has shown that people generally hold more negative attitudes toward homosexuals. Given this fact, it is important to understand psychological and social correlates of homophobia. With this purpose, the present study investigates attachment styles, openness to experience, and social contact in relation to attitudes toward homosexuals. The findings show that being female, having prior contact with homosexuals, and scoring high in openness to experience predict more favorable attitudes toward homosexuals. The supplementary analyses also support the moderating effect of secure attachment on the relationship between openness to experience and attitudes toward homosexuals. The present study not only extends the related research by examining the interactive effects of attachment style and personality trait, but also provides important implications for researchers, educators, or managers in terms of reducing anti-homosexual attitudes in diverse settings.Article Citation - WoS: 25Citation - Scopus: 27Inflation Uncertainty and Interest Rates: Is the Fisher Relation Universal?(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2007) Berument, Hakan; Ceylan, Nildag Basak; Olgun, HasanThis paper tests the validity of the Fisher hypothesis, which establishes a positive relation between interest rates and expected inflation, for the G7 countries and 45 developing economies. For this purpose, we estimate a version of the GARCH specification of the hypothesis for all countries included in the sample. We also test the augmented Fisher relation by including the inflation uncertainty in the equation. The simple Fisher relation holds in all G7 countries but in only 23 developing countries. We focus on the relationship between the influence of the secondary task on the eye movements of learners, and the learning outcomes as measured by retention, matching, and transfer. Half of the participants performed a spatial tapping task while studying the instructional materials, whereas the other half studied the materials, without spatial tapping. The results revealed suboptimal learning outcomes under the secondary task, which was accompanied by fewer transitions of gaze between the text and the figure. This study finds the explanation in the perpetuation of a specifically Turkish paradigm of democracy/democratization, which has emerged in the early years of the Turkish experiment with democracy and has been reproduced by the Turkish political class ever since. The impact of economic disadvantage on these courses has not been fully explored despite several studies. This study aimed to investigate the impact of country's income level on the success of 3,523,692 learners from 204 countries enrolled in 174 MITx MOOCs. The countries were classified as low- and lower-middle-income (L&LM) or high- and upper-middle-income (H&UM). A structural equation modelling with multigroup analysis conducted. The findings revealed that learners in the L&LM group performed better academically. Completion rates were 66% for L&LM and 25% for H&UM, and certification rates were 95% for L&LM and 99% for H&UM. This shows that L&LM learners may be more motivated because they believe MOOCs might help their careers. These results are essential for creating MOOCs that fit diverse learner demographics.
