Making Foreign Policy Through Twitter: an Analysis of Trump's Tweets on Iran
    (IGI Global, 2020) Orhan,D.D.
Through the development of technology, the understanding of traditional foreign policy has changed. Foreign policy making, which was shaped by diplomatic correspondence, visits, agreements, and notes between countries, is carried out today via messages sent over the Internet. Twitter is the most frequently used internet tool in the hands of institutions, decision makers, and leaders in foreign policy making. US President Donald J. Trump is one of the leaders who use Twitter most effectively. Twitter was the center of Trump's messages, both during the presidential campaign and after his election. Trump is not just using Twitter as a platform for meeting his supporters and announcing the country's official policies. Twitter has also been an important way for Trump to challenge and send harsh messages to certain countries, companies, and individuals. Iran is one of the countries that Trump targets through Twitter. This study aims to examine the use of Twitter as a platform in foreign policy making by using content analysis method through Trump's tweets about Iran. © 2021, IGI Global.

Impacts of Economic and Institutional Dynamics on New Media Applications Penetration: Sample Country Analysis
    (IGI Global, 2022) Benli,H.E.
New media applications become vital in order to compete as a country and as human beings. Despite the positive impact and increasing global usage of new media applications, some countries have low new media applications penetration when others have high. This should be analyzed and evaluated within the countries' own macroeconomic and institutional dynamics. Dynamic motives as institutional, macroeconomic, infrastructural, and political factors heavily divined and also easily damage the current and future conditions of the countries. This work conceptually and concretely investigated the role of specific factors. Macroeconomic factors are determined as population, GDP growth rate, and population rate of the countries. Institutional factors are evaluated through political stability index, rule of law index, and civil liberties index of each sample country. Infrastructural factors, business environment, and investments were analyzed with looking at international internet bandwidth per internet users and competitiveness data for countries. © 2023 by IGI Global. E-mentoring in global software development teams: Success factors to develop a common culture
    (IGI Global, 2012) Colomo-Palacios,R.; Mishra,A.; Casado-Lumbreras,C.; Soto-Acosta,P.
Global Software Development (GSD) teams face communication and coordination problems due to spatial, temporal, and cultural separation between team members. Cultural diversity and cross-cultural management are significant issues among GSD teams. In software development projects, mentoring dramatically reduces the learning curve for novice human resources. Due to the large amount of electronic communication instruments, a remarkable number of different e-Mentoring concepts have emerged, which provides opportunity for mentoring that would not otherwise be possible. This chapter presents key success factors to enable e-Mentoring as a tool to develop a common culture in GSD scenarios. These success factors enable the correct application of mentoring programmes and the use of this to build a common culture in organizations that perform GSD. © 2013, IGI Global.

Stress, Coping, and Social Media Use
    (IGI Global, 2022) Demirtepe-Saygılı, D.
Social media has become a part of people’s lives and many psychological processes are suggested to be related with social media use. This chapter examines social media use from a stress and coping perspective. Social media can be a stressor for users with the content of posts they see, with a fear of negative evaluation, as an unhealthy attachment to social media accounts, and as a result of cyberbullying. Social media use can also be a problem-focused coping as a source of information, an emotion-focused coping as a distraction, and a source of social support. Lastly, it can be a predictor or a part of well-being as well as a moderator or mediator between coping and well-being. After elaborating on social media use as a part of the coping process, implications for research and practice are discussed. The key points from a coping viewpoint are specified for users, parents, teachers, and professionals. While problematic use of social media can be part of dysfunctional coping and a worse well-being, healthy use can help individuals deal with stresses and lead to a better well-being. © 2022 by IGI Global. Unveiling the Portrayal of Intimate Partner Violence Against Women in the Media: Insights From an Honor Culture
    (IGI Global, 2023) Akbaş,G.; Ceylan-Batur,S.
Intimate partner violence (IPV) against women is a pervasive global issue. The media plays a significant role in shaping society's perceptions and understanding of IPV. This study focuses on the representation of femicide in Turkish newspapers, with a specific focus on the context of Turkey as an honor culture characterized by a distinct emphasis on female sexual purity and male dominance. Honor cultures often justify violence against women in the name of preserving honor. This research aims to investigate how newspapers depict honor-based IPV through quantitative analysis, content analysis, discourse analysis, and frame analysis of femicide cases. The findings reveal that newspapers frame IPV within an honor culture by victim-blaming and justifying men's violent behavior. Additionally, news coverage often portrays honor-based IPV as isolated incidents, failing to recognize its reflection of the broader honor culture. These portrayals inadvertently perpetuate and legitimize IPV, discouraging women from seeking assistance and support. © 2023, IGI Global. All rights reserved.
