Temperature Effects on Optical Characteristics of Cdse Thin Films
    (Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2021) Gullu, H. H.; Isik, M.; Surucu, O.; Gasanly, N. M.; Parlak, M.
CdSe is one of the significant members of II-VI type semiconducting family and it has a wide range of technological applications in which optoelectronic devices take a special position. The present paper reports the structural and optical characteristics of thermally evaporated CdSe thin films. XRD pattern exhibited preferential orientation along (111) plane while atomic composition analyses resulted in the ratio of Cd/Se as closer to 1.0. Temperature-dependent band gap characteristics of CdSe thin films were investigated for the first time by carrying out transmission experiments in the 10-300 K range. The analyses showed that direct band gap energy of the compound decreases from 1.750 (at 10 K) to 1.705 eV (at 300 K). Varshni model was successfully applied to the temperature-band gap energy dependency and various optical constants were determined. Raman spectrum of CdSe thin films was also presented to understand the vibrational characteristics of the compound. The present paper would provide worthwhile data to researchers especially studying on optoelectronic device applications of CdSe thin films.

Optical Band Gap and Dispersion of Optical Constants of Cu-Ga Thin Films
    (Elsevier Gmbh, 2019) Isik, M.; Gullu, H. H.; Coskun, E.; Gasanly, N. M.
Thermally deposited Cu-Ga-S thin films were optically characterized by means of experimental techniques of transmission measurements. The analyses of transmittance spectra were accomplished by derivative spectrophotometry analyses to get gap energies of thin films. The transmittance spectra of thin films annealed at different temperatures presented interference fringes which were analyzed by Swanepoel envelope method. The wavelength dependencies of optical parameters; refractive index (n), real part of complex dielectric function (epsilon(re)) and extinction coefficient (k) were reported in the weak absorption region. The photon energy dependencies of n and epsilon(re) were analyzed using single-oscillator and Spitzer-Fan models, respectively.

Energy Band Gap and Dispersive Optical Parameters in Bi1.5zn0.92< Pyrochlore Ceramics
    (Elsevier Science Sa, 2010) Qasrawi, A. F.; Mergen, A.
The compositional and optical properties of Bi1.5Zn0.92Nb1.5O6.92 Pyrochlore ceramics have been investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-vis spectroscopy, respectively. The SEM spectroscopy revealed that the pyrochlore exhibits a very dense microstructure with single-phase appearance. The absorption spectral analysis in the sharp absorption region revealed an indirect forbidden transitions band gap of 3.30 eV. The room temperature refractive index, which was calculated from the reflectance and transmittance data, allowed the identification of the dispersion and oscillator energies, static and lattice dielectric constants and static refractive index as 26.69 and 3.37 eV, 8.92 and 15.95 and 2.98, respectively. Structural and Optoelectronic Properties of Cds/Y Thin Films
(Elsevier Science Sa, 2019) Qasrawi, A. F.; Abed, Tamara Y.
In the current study, the structural, optical, photoelectrical and electrical properties of CdS/Y/CdS thin films are investigated. The current design include the evaporation of a layer of 70 nm thick yttrium between two layers of CdS. Each CdS layer is of thickness of 500 nm. It is observed that the yttrium slab increased the microstrain, defect density, stacking faults and decreased the grain size and redshifts the indirect allowed transitions energy band gap of CdS. In addition an enhancement by similar to 5 times in the light absorbability is detected at 1.74 eV. The enhanced absorbance results in increasing the photocurrent by similar to 21 times and changed the recombination mechanism from a trap assisted recombination to supralinear recombination mechanisms. Moreover, the ac signal analysis in the frequency domain of 10-1800 MHz has shown that the yttrium forces the CdS to exhibit negative capacitance effect and make it behave as band stop filter with notch frequency of 1520 MHz. The quality of the CdS/Y/CdS films as microwave cavities are screened by the evaluation of the return loss which revealed good features of the nanostructured films as microwave receivers.

Electronic, Optical and Thermodynamic Characteristics of Bi12sio20 Sillenite: First Principle Calculations
    (Elsevier Science Sa, 2021) Isik, M.; Surucu, G.; Gencer, A.; Gasanly, N. M.
Bi12XO20 (X: Si, Ge, Ti) ternary semiconducting compounds are known as sillenites and take a remarkable attention thanks to their attractive photorefractive properties. The present paper reports electronic, optical and thermodynamic characteristics of Bi12SiO20 by means of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The crystalline structure of the compound was revealed as cubic with lattice constant of 10.135 angstrom. XRD pattern obtained from DFT calculations were compared with experimental data and there is a good consistency between them. The electronic band structure and density of state plots were presented in detail. The band gap energy of the compound was determined from electronic band structure and spectra of optical constants. The spectral dependencies of real and imaginary components of dielectric function, refractive index, extinction coefficient, absorption coefficient and loss function were plotted in the 0-12 eV spectral range. The revealed structural, electronic and optical characteristics were discussed taking into account the previously reported theoretical and experimental studies on the Bi12SiO20 sillenite.

    Interband Critical Points in Tlgax< Layered Mixed Crystals (0 ≤ x ≤ 1)
(Elsevier Science Sa, 2013) Isik, M.; Işık, Mehmet; Gasanly, N. M.; Işık, Mehmet; Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering; Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering
The layered semiconducting TlGaxIn1-xS2 mixed crystals (0 <= x <= 1) were studied by spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements in the 1.2-6.2 eV spectral range at room temperature. The spectral dependence of the components of the complex dielectric function, refractive index and extinction coefficient were revealed using an optical model. The interband transition energies in the studied samples were found from the analysis of the second-energy derivative spectra of the complex dielectric function. The variation of the obtained energies with composition were plotted to see the effect of the substitution of indium with gallium. Moreover, a simple diagram showing the revealed transitions in the available electronic band structure was given for TlGaS2 single crystals. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights

Effect of Insertion of Aluminum Nanosheets on the Structural, Optical and Dielectric Properties of Stacked Layers of Selenium
(Natl inst R&d Materials Physics, 2019) Qasrawi, A. F.; Qasrawı, Atef Fayez Hasan; Abu Al Rob, O. H.; Qasrawı, Atef Fayez Hasan; Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering; Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering; Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering
In this work, the time dependent metal induced crystallization process in stacked layers of selenium that are sandwiched with aluminum nanosheets of thicknesses of 50 nm are investigated by means of X-ray diffraction and optical spectrophotometry techniques. The Al nanosheets motivated the growth of orthorhombic phases of selenium and lowered the energy bang gap of the amorphous films from 2.26 to 1.82 eV when the orthorhombic phase is achieved. The time dependent monitoring of the structural and optical properties over eighteen months have shown that both of the orthorhombic and amorphous phases exhibit a second transformation to hexagonal and stabilize at that phase within ten days of the growth time. The presence of the aluminum nanosheets enhanced the light absorbability by 15 and 5 times in the orthorhombic and hexagonal phases, respectively. In addition, the dielectric spectra of the studied films display similar characteristics in the hexagonal phase with slight differences that results from Al nanosheets. The dielectric spectra for both of the amorphous and orthorhombic phases displayed resonance peaks in the visible and infrared ranges of light. The structural and optical analysis that are carried out through this study represent a guide for using the selenium films in optoelectronic technology.

Band Offsets and Optical Conduction in the Cdse/Gase Interface
    (Elsevier Science Bv, 2016) Kayed, T. S.; Qasrawi, A. F.; Elsayed, Khaled A.
In this work, the design and characterization of CdSe/GaSe heterojunction is considered. The CdSe/GaSe thin film interface was prepared by the physical vapor deposition technique. Systematic structural and optical analysis were performed to explore the crystalline nature, the optical band gaps, the conduction and valence band offsets, the dielectric spectra, and the frequency dependent optical conductivity at terahertz frequencies. The X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a polycrystalline interface that is mostly dominated by the hexagonal CdSe oriented in the (002) direction. It was also found that the CdSe/GaSe interface exhibits conduction and valence band offsets of 1.35 and 1.23/1.14 eV, respectively. The dielectric spectra displayed two dielectric resonance peaks at 530 and 445 THz. Moreover, the computational fittings of the optical conductivity of the interface revealed a free carrier scattering time of 0.41 (fs) for a free carrier density of 7.0 x 10(18) (cm(-3)). The field effect mobility for the CdSe/GaSe interface was found to be 5.22 (cm(2)/Vs). The remarkable features of this device having large band offsets and qualitative optical conduction dominated by a scattering time in the order of femtoseconds in addition to the dielectric property nominate the device to be used in optoelectronic technology. (Elsevier, 2020) Surucu, O.; Isik, M.; Gasanly, N. M.; Terlemezoglu, M.; Parlak, M.
MoS2 is one of the fascinating members of transition metal dichalcogenides and has attracted great attention due to its various optoelectronic device applications and its characteristic as two-dimensional material. The present paper reports the structural and temperature tuned optical properties of MoS2 thin films grown by RF magnetron sputtering technique. It was observed that the atomic composition ratio of Mo:S was nearly equal to 1:2 and the deposited thin films have hexagonal crystalline structure exhibiting Raman peaks around 376 and 410 cm(-1). The band gap energies were determined as 1.66 and 1.71 eV at 300 and 10 K, respectively and temperature dependency of band gap energy was analyzed by means of Varshni and O'Donnell-Chen models. Optical Properties of Gas Crystals: Combined Study of Temperature-Dependent Band Gap Energy and Oscillator Parameters
(Natl inst Science Communication-niscair, 2017) Isik, Mehmet; Tugay, Evrin; Gasanly, Nizami; Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Optical parameters of gallium sulfide (GaS) layered single crystals have been found through temperature-dependent transmission and room temperature reflection experiments in the wavelength range of 400-1100 nm. Experimental data demonstrates the coexistence of both optical indirect and direct transitions and the shift of the absorption edges toward lower energies by increasing temperature in the range of 10-300 K. Band gap at zero temperature, average phonon energy and electron phonon coupling parameter for indirect and direct band gap energies have been obtained from the analyses of temperature dependences of band gap energies. At high temperatures kT>> (E-ph), rates of band gap energy change have been found as 0.56 and 0.67 me V/K for E-gi and E-gd, respectively. Furthermore, the dispersion of refractive index has been discussed in terms of the Wemple-DiDomenico single effective oscillator model. The refractive index dispersion parameters, namely oscillator and dispersion energies, oscillator strength and zero-frequency refractive index, have been found to be 4.48 eV, 24.8 eV, 6.99x10(13) m(-2) and 2.56, respectively. The results of the present work will provide an important contribution to the research areas related to the characterization and optoelectronic device fabrication using GaS layered crystals.
