The survey has been conducted using a 'face-to-face interview' approach during an IT event. To keep in line with the available literature, gender, age, education level, income and daily Internet usage, constitute the socio-demographic variants for this study. Five hypotheses were constructed to investigate the nature of the relationship between the socio-demographic factors and the usage of online purchasing. The chi-square method was selected to test the hypotheses. The survey was conducted among professionals from the government and private sectors. The results indicated that income is significantly related to the usage of e-commerce. A survey is conducted among employees from government-and private-sector organisations for this purpose, assuming that this group plays an important role in helping to adopt new technologies in societies. The proposed approach focuses mainly on course requirements including increasing the interaction between instructor and project team members; providing better and fair student/team performance assessment; encouraging students to practise life-cycle driven development; preparing students for role-based team-working; motivating students to communicate with experts from industry and supporting cooperation between students. In this approach, the analysis of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) job data from the industry, and as well as the ongoing use of expert knowledge from the field of information science keep the ICT curriculum content up-to-date, relevant, and consistent with the educational goals of the universities, and students in a variety of educational and cultural contexts. A number of recommendations are put forward for educating students in Turkish universities in order to enhance their opportunities in the international job market.
