A.Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze and evaluate a Turkish translation of the oral health impact profile-14 (OHIP-14) in a Turkish population to provide an objective standard for future studies. Methods: This cross-sectional research study consisted of three independent studies. Data were collected utilizing a personal interview and a review of periodontal records. This study was performed on 1205 subjects who were visiting for routine medical check-ups. The OHIP-14 was administered to measure oral health related to the quality of life, along with a questionnaire addressing demographic information, such as age, gender, and education. Results: The reliability coefficient (Cronbach's alpha) of the Turkish version OHIP-14-TR (OHIP-14-TR) was reported to be nearly perfect in all 3 parts of our study (alpha 1: 0.82; alpha 2: 0.76; alpha 3: 0.91); additionally, values were greater than the recommended 0.70 threshold. Spearman's correlation coefficients showed that both OHIP scores significantly correlated with periodontal parameters, serving as proof of convergent validity (P < 0.01, P < 0.001). The principal component analysis with varimax rotation revealed seven factors. The OHIP-14-TR was more than 95% comprehensible. Conclusion: The OHIP-14-TR is a reliable, valid, and comprehensible scale for measuring oral health-related quality of life in the Turkish population.Article Citation - WoS: 27Citation - Scopus: 31Generalized Extreme Shock Models and Their Applications(Taylor & Francis inc, 2020) Bozbulut, Ali Riza; Eryilmaz, SerkanIn the classical extreme shock model, the system fails due to a single catastrophic shock. In this paper, by assuming different arrival patterns of the shocks, two new types of extreme shock models are introduced. In these models, m possible sources may exert shocks on the system. Both models reduce to the classical extreme shock model when m = 1. Assuming phase-type distribution for times between successive shocks, we obtain survival functions and mean time to failure values of the system under new models. The purpose of this study was to develop "The Pediatric Provider Communication Skills Assessment Scale" in this study. MethodsA trial form, with linguistic and psychometric validation and consisting of 44 statements, was administered to a sample of 325 individuals. Data were collected between January 20 and October 22, 2021. The validity of the scale was concluded after examining its construct validity and internal validity. "Exploratory factor analysis" was used for determining construct validity, and "comparison of lower-upper groups" for internal validity. "Cronbach's & alpha; reliability coefficient" and "split half test consistency coefficient" were calculated for testing the reliability of the scale. FindingsThe Pediatric Provider Communication Skills Assessment Scale that we developed consists of one dimension and 20 items, and the variance it can explain was calculated as 62.3%. The Cronbach & alpha; reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated as 0.90, indicating high reliability. ConclusionsAccording to the findings, "The Pediatric Provider Communication Skills Assessment Scale" is a scale with features that can measure in a valid and reliable way, with high variance and a low number of items. The study aims to develop the "The Pediatric Provider Communication Skills Assessment Scale," and present it to the literature as a validated and reliable new objective measurement tool. This study will enable us to understand more about the complex communication processes involved in pediatric care and how these may influence care delivery.Article Citation - WoS: 12Citation - Scopus: 13A NEW SHOCK MODEL WITH A CHANGE IN SHOCK SIZE DISTRIBUTION(Cambridge Univ Press, 2021) Eryilmaz, Serkan; Kan, CihangirFor a system that is subject to shocks, it is assumed that the distribution of the magnitudes of shocks changes after the first shock of size at least d(1), and the system fails upon the occurrence of the first shock above a critical level d(2) (> d(1)). In this paper, the distribution of the lifetime of such a system is studied when the times between successive shocks follow matrix-exponential distribution. In particular, it is shown that the system's lifetime has matrix-exponential distribution when the intershock times follow Erlang distribution. The model is extended to the case when the system fails upon the occurrence of l consecutive critical shocks.Article Citation - WoS: 12Citation - Scopus: 16A Note on Optimization Problems of a Parallel System With a Random Number of Units(World Scientific Publ Co Pte Ltd, 2017) Eryilmaz, SerkanThis paper is concerned with a parallel system that have a random number of units. The distribution of the number of units is assumed to follow a power series class of distributions which contains well-known distributions such as modified or truncated Poisson, geometric, and logarithmic distributions. Optimal number of units and replacement time for the system which minimizes the mean cost rate are computed. The results extend the results in the literature from Poisson distribution to a wider class of distributions.
