    Theoretical Modelling of Magnetron Sputtering of Boron Nitride Coating

    The fundamentals of the magnetron sputtering (MS) technique are simple. However, the complex interplay of various physical and chemical sub-processes lies in its simplicity. The direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is used to model the MS of the Boron Nitride (BN) coating. The Lorentz force, which is created by an electric field, magnetic field and particle collision, is utilised to model the BN coating. Three distinct bias voltages are used to generate three different BN-coating models under the same conditions. The modelling of BN coatings reveals that the deposition rate decreases as the substrate voltage increases.

    Patient Safety in Healthcare: A Proposal for Ensuring the Use of Regulation-Compliant Safety Devices

    Medical devices used in health care should fulfill the requirements of the technical regulations to protect patient health. Difficulties in enforcing stricter rules in the new medical device regulations may negatively affect the continuity of care. This study examines the status of manufacturers' compliance with medical device regulations, based on predefined criteria, and proposes a collaborative action plan and an approach to verify regulatory compliance. We conducted a nationwide survey comprising questions grouped by criteria to understand the status of the manufacturers in terms of compliance with the Medical Device Regulation. Four hundred sixty-seven manufacturers participated in the survey. We achieved a Cronbach's alpha of 0.77, which indicates that the survey is statistically reliable. We applied the independent samples t-test to the responses to determine significant features per question and employed factor analysis to investigate the relationships of the questions. The results of independent samples t-tests showed statistically significant differences across groups in replies to several survey items (p < 0.05), indicating that participants' opinions varied based on their demographic characteristics. We applied Exploratory Factor Analysis to introduce the relationships between the questions. The analysis revealed that manufacturers continue to face substantial challenges in acquiring sufficient knowledge and operational capability to meet MDR requirements. In light of these findings, we focused on the person responsible for regulatory compliance, who plays a central role in maintaining regulatory compliance within manufacturing organizations. We proposed an action plan at the macro level to introduce more effective action plans in cooperation with other stakeholders, including healthcare providers, and a verification approach for regulatory compliance to enhance the Person Responsible for Regulatory Compliance's competence. Manufacturers should implement effective postmarketing clinical follow-up plans involving device-oriented parameters for monitoring in the healthcare system, especially in collaboration with health professionals.

    A Study on Reliability of Coherent Systems Equipped With a Cold Standby Component

    In this paper, we investigate the effect of a single cold standby component on the performance of a coherent system. In particular, we focus on coherent systems which may fail at the time of the first component failure in the system. We obtain signature based expressions for the survival function and mean time to failure of the coherent systems satisfying the abovementioned property.

    Yielding of Two-Layer Shrink-Fitted Composite Tubes Subject To Radial Pressure

    Yielding of two-layer shrink-fitted composite tubes with axially constrained ends subject to either internal or external pressure is investigated in detail. In the framework of small deformations, a state of plane strain and von Mises yield criterion, analytical expressions are obtained for critical values of the pressure leading to plastic flow. It is shown that, depending on material properties and tube dimensions, different modes of plastic deformation may occur. Yielding may commence at the inner tube or at the outer tube or simultaneously in both tubes. The conditions for different nature of plastic flow are determined. Using analytical expressions obtained for critical values of the parameters and properties of real engineering materials, various numerical examples are handled and the variation of elastic limit pressure with interference and interface radius is explained.

    A Discrete Optimality System for an Optimal Harvesting Problem

    In this paper, we obtain the discrete optimality system of an optimal harvesting problem. While maximizing a combination of the total expected utility of the consumption and of the terminal size of a population, as a dynamic constraint, we assume that the density of the population is modeled by a stochastic quasi-linear heat equation. Finite-difference and symplectic partitioned Runge-Kutta (SPRK) schemes are used for space and time discretizations, respectively. It is the first time that a SPRK scheme is employed for the optimal control of stochastic partial differential equations. Monte-Carlo simulation is applied to handle expectation appearing in the cost functional. We present our results together with a numerical example. The paper ends with a conclusion and an outlook to future studies, on further research questions and applications.

    Emulating Erasmus? Turkey's Mevlana Exchange Program in Higher Education

    In today's world, globalization and internationalization of education necessitate new initiatives to catch the new era. Turkey, as a country in between the east and the west, attempts to do so through its recent exchange program in higher education. Interestingly, Turkey's Mevlana exchange program as an ambitious project in higher education denotes an instance of policy transfer: taking the EU model (i.e., Erasmus) and slightly adjusting it to the national circumstances. This article unpacks Turkey's Mevlana program to demonstrate the process of policy transfer by focusing on different questions posed within the policy transfer literature. It argues that Mevlana is drawn from Erasmus, and it is created as a tool of soft power that is increasingly exercised by Turkey due to its changing focus within the Turkish foreign policy of 2000s.

    Some Reliability Measures and Maintenance Policies for a Coherent System Composed of Different Types of Components

    Consider an n-components coherent system monitored at one or two inspection times, and some information about the system and its components is obtained. Under these conditions, some variants of mean residual lifetimes can be defined. Also, the dual concept of the residual lifetime, i.e., inactivity time is defined for a failed system under different conditions. This article is concerned with the study of mean residual lives and mean inactivity times for a coherent system made of multiple types of dependent components. The dependency structure is modeled by a survival copula. The notion of survival signature is employed to represent the system's reliability function and subsequently its mean residual lives and mean inactivity times under different events at the monitoring time. These dynamic measures are used frequently to study the reliability characteristics of a system. Also, they provide helpful tools for designing the optimal maintenance policies to preserving the system from sudden and costly failures. Here, we extend some maintenance strategies for a coherent system consists of multiple dependent components. Some illustrative examples are provided.

    The Sharpness of Convergence Results for q-bernstein Polynomials in The Case q > 1

    Due to the fact that in the case q > 1 the q-Bernstein polynomials are no longer positive linear operators on C[0, 1], the study of their convergence properties turns out to be essentially more difficult than that for q 1. In this paper, new saturation theorems related to the convergence of q-Bernstein polynomials in the case q > 1 are proved.

    Research on Pcb Defect Detection Using Artificial Intelligence: a Systematic Mapping Study

    SMT (Surface Mount Technology) has been the backbone of PCB (Printed Circuit Board) production for the last couple of decades. Even though the speed and accuracy of SMT have been drastically improved in the last decade, errors during production are still a very valid problem for the PCB industry. With the exponential rise of Artificial Intelligence in the last decade, the SMT industry was one of the most eager industries to use this new technology to detect possible defects during production. Lately, traditional image processing techniques started to lag behind methods such as machine learning and deep learning when the discussion came to the need of high accuracy. In this paper, we screen academic libraries to understand which of the latest methods and techniques are used in the domain and to deduce a general process for detecting defects in PCBs. During the research we have investigated research questions related to state-of-the-art methods, highly mentioned datasets, and sought after PCB defects. All findings and answers are mapped to be able to understand where this pursuit might point towards. From a total of 270 papers, 90 of them were addressed in detail and 78 papers were chosen for this systematic mapping.

    Failure Rates of Consecutive k-out-of-n< Systems

    Linear and circular consecutive k-out-of-n systems are very popular models in reliability theory, survival analysis, and biological disciplines and other related lifetime sciences. In these theories, the failure rate function is a key notion for measuring the ageing process. In this paper we obtain some mixture representations for consecutive systems and we apply a mixture-based failure rate analysis for both linear and circular consecutive systems. In particular, we analyze the limiting behavior of the system failure rate when the time increases and we obtain some ordering properties. We first consider the popular case of systems with components having independent and identically distributed lifetimes. In practice, these assumptions may fail. So we also study the case of independent non-identically distributed component lifetimes. This case has special interest when a cold-standby redundancy is used for some components. In this sense, we analyze where to place the best components in the systems. Even more, we also study systems with dependent components by assuming that their lifetimes are exchangeable.
