There are few data on permanent pacemaker implantation (PPMI) in patients who have undergone transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) stenosis.
Aim:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the predictors and incidence of PPMI in bicuspid patients using a balloon-expandable (BE) TAVI device.
Material and methods:
A total of 62 patients with bicuspid morphology who had undergone successful TAVI using a BE device without previous PPMI were included (retrospectively). Their baseline clinical, electrocardiographic (ECG), echocardiographic, and multislice computed tomography (MSCT) details were collected.
Results:
The incidence of PPMI after TAVI in this BAV cohort was 12.9%. All eight patients with PPMs were found to have type 1 left-right (LR) fusion morphology. In univariate analysis, the presence of right bundle branch block (RBBB) in preprocedural ECG ( p < 0.0001), short membraneous septum (MS) evaluated in MSCT ( p < 0.0001), and increased annulus-left main coronary artery distance ( p = 0.02) were statistically significant for PPMI. Among these parameters included in the model using multivariate Firth logistic regression analysis, the presence of preprocedural RBBB ( p = 0.001) and shortness of the MS in MSCT ( p = 0.004) were independent risk factors for predicting postprocedural PPMI in patients who underwent TAVI among those with BAV.
Conclusions:
Preprocedural RBBB on ECG and shorter MS are independent risk factors for PPMI after TAVI in BAV patients and these parameters should be considered before the procedure to guide clinical decision making. Evaluating the biocompatibility of these nanocomposites is crucial to ensure their safe and effective use in biomedical applications. This study characterized and assessed the biocompatibility of previously fabricated electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/reduced graphene oxide rGO fibrous structures by conducting a comprehensive assessment of their physical and biological characteristics. Contact angle measurements revealed that adding rGO to electrospun PVA fibers enhanced the surface wettability, improving the fibrous structure's PBS absorption capacity and degradation behavior. Including the rGO content resulted in a higher water vapor transmission rate, reaching similar to 48 g/m2day for PVA + 0.5 wt.% rGO and similar to 45 g/m2day for PVA + 1.0 wt.% rGO, compared to similar to 40 g/m2day for electrospun PVA fibers. Cell culture studies, including MTT assay, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity analysis, alizarin red staining, fluorescence microscopy, and SEM analyses, demonstrated that electrospun PVA + 1.0 wt.% rGO nanocomposites exhibited superior cell viability, proliferation, and growth compared to other samples, due to the improved physical properties of the PVA + 1.0 wt.% rGO fibrous structure.Article Citation - WoS: 23Citation - Scopus: 25Evaluation of the Efficiency of the Nursing Care Plan Applied Using Nanda, Noc, and Nic Linkages To Elderly Women With Incontinence Living in a Nursing Home: a Randomized Controlled Study(Wiley, 2018) Gencbas, Dercan; Bebis, Hatice; Cicek, HaticePURPOSE: Evaluate the efficiency of the nursing care plan, applied with the use of NANDA-I, NOC, and NIC (NNN) linkages, for elderly women with incontinence who live in nursing homes. METHODS: A randomized controlled experimental design was applied. NNN linkages were prepared and applied for 12 weeks in an experimental group. NOC scales were evaluated again for two groups. RESULTS: A 0.5 NOC point change targeted in all elderly in the experimental group were provided between pretest-posttest scores. The experimental group had higher life quality and lower incontinence severity/symptoms than the control group. Cyclic voltammogram of the copolymer films recorded in the monomer-free electrolytic solution revealed that the redox behavior of the films approaches to that of poly(triethylene glycol bis(o-aminophenyl) ether) with increasing amount of triethylene glycol bis(o-aminophenyl) in the feed ratio. Copolymerization was investigated by in situ recording the changes in the electronic absorption spectrum during electrolysis. The free standing copolymer film was characterized utilizing Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, and spectroelectrochemical behavior of the copolymer was investigated via in situ UV-vis spectroscopic technique. Besides the electron spin resonance study of the copolymer film, the different morphologies of the polymers were examined by scanning electron microscopy and the copolymerization was confirmed. In particular, matrix-based expressions are obtained for the stress-strength reliability, and mean residual strength for an operating system. In this study, the distribution of the dominant bacteria present in kurut samples (n=84) originated from seven (Chuy, Issyk-Kul, Talas, Naryn, Jalal-Abad, Osh, and Batken) regions in Kyrgyzstan were analyzed with Illumina iSeq100 platform. The dominant phylum detected was Firmicutes followed by Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Cyanobacteria/Chloroplast, and Tenericutes. The most abundant family detected was Lactobacillaceae followed by Streptococcaceae, Enterococcaceae, Chloroplast, and Leuconostocaceae. At the genus level, Lactobacillus was the predominant one in samples and Streptococcus, Enterococcus, Lactococcus, and Streptophyta followed this. Further comprehensive characterization analyses in kurut samples may have potential applications both in industrial starter culture developments and also future therapeutic approaches based on potential strains with probiotic properties. imageArticle Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1A New Multi-Target Compiler Architecture for Edge-Devices and Cloud Management(Gazi Univ, 2022) Gokcay, ErhanEdge computing is the concept where the computation is handled at edge-devices. The transfer of the computation from servers to edge-devices will decrease the massive amount of data transfer generated by edge-devices. There are several efficient management tools for setup and connection purposes, but these management tools cannot provide a unified programming system from a single source code/project. Even though it is possible to control each device efficiently, a global view of the computation is missing in a programming project that includes several edge-devices for computation and data analysis purposes, and the devices need to be programmed individually. A generic workflow engine might automate part of the problem using standard interfaces and predefined objects miming on edge-devices. Nevertheless, the approach fails in fine-tuning each edge-device since the computation cannot be moved easily among devices. This paper introduces a new compiler architecture to control and program edge-devices from a single source code. The source code can be distributed to multiple edge-devices using simple compiler directives, and the transfer and communication of the source code with multiple devices are handled transparently. Fine-tuning the source code and code movement between devices becomes very efficient in editing and time. The proposed architecture is a lightweight system with fine-tuned computation and distribution among devices.
