In their various applications, it is critical to provide wide hand operation around the resonant frequency providing good impedance match between the antenna element and the feed. In this study, new, simple, arid accurate computation of resonant frequency and input impedance of double-layered, coaxial fed circular disk microstrip antenna with air gap is performed. In the analysis, new effective radius and permittivity expressions are used in simple and modified form including modal effects. Then, a new approach is proposed to provide input impedance matching (it resonant frequency via the application of microgenetic algorithm for wide hand operation. The accuracy of theoretical calculations and impedance matching approach are presented for various, structural parameters and operational modes of the antenna. The hydrothermal system was isolated from the environment and hydrothermal reactions were allowed to execute at 130 degrees C for 36 h at autogeneous pressure, and at a stirring rate of 250 rpm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed that TiO2 nanofibers formed instead of nanotubes upon utilization of amorphous TiO2 precursor. After hydrothermal synthesis, the powders were acid treated by HCl several times. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis identified that the synthesized powders were Na-titanate and remained Na-titanate even after subjecting to acidic treatments several times. The photocatalytic performance of the powders was evaluated by degradation of methylene blue (MB) solution in UV illumination. Results were compared with nanotubes which were synthesized previously using P25 commercial titania powder and have shown that TiO2 in tubular structure offers better photocatalytic performance for the degradation of MB solution under UV illumination as compared to fiber-like structure.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 3Impedance Spectroscopy of N-Substituted Oligo-Oxyethylene Polypyrrole Films(John Wiley & Sons inc, 2008) Cihaner, Atilla; Onal, Ahmet M.The electrochemical properties of neutral (dedoped) and oxidized (doped) poly(1,11-bis(1,1-pyrrole)-3,6,9-trioxaundecane) (poly-I) film electrodes were investigated using cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. Poly-I was deposited on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) from acetonitrile solution containing 5.0 x 10(-3) M 1,11-bis(1,1-pyrrole)-3,6,9-trioxaundecane (I) and 0.1 M LiClO4 supporting electrolyte. Doped poly-I exhibits a single semicircle in its complex-capacitance plots, indicating a single dominant ion transport process, together with high capacitance values. These features make this polymer film a candidate for an energy storage material. Also, poly-I can be a candidate as a sensory material for the detection of Ag+ based on impedance parameters. Electrochemical behavior of furan was investigated in the same solvent mixture of varying ratios, utilizing cyclic voltammetry. Free-standing polyfuran (PFu) films were obtained in CH3CN/BF3/EE mixture (2/4/4; v/v/v) and characterized using FTIR spectroscopic technique. Spectroelectrochemical behavior of the PFu film was investigated by recording the electronic absorption spectra, in sitn, in monomer-free solution. It is observed that PFu film can be reversibly cycled between -0.1 V (gray) and + 0.6 V versus Ag-wire (gray color); however, this behavior diminishes in the presence of water. Electrochromic device application of PFu film with poly(ethylene dioxythiophene) was also studied. The first two appear in Western Anatolia. The third one, Sivrihisar (Yunusemre) laterites have been found in the first decade of the millennium, in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey. Since then, mining facilities have been continued in Yunusemre. Calcination, prereduction and smelting of Sivrihisar laterites have been extensively studied and published. In the current work, some results of the studies related to characterization of Sivrihisar laterites will be presented.Article Citation - WoS: 2Synthesis of n-polyethereal Polypyrroles and Their Application for the Preconcentration of Rare Earth Ions(John Wiley & Sons inc, 2008) Koksel, Bahar; Cihaner, Atilla; Kaya, Murat; Volkan, Muervet; Onal, Ahmet M.Conducting polymers containing polyether pseudocages (PI, PII, PIII) have been synthesized via chemical oxidation of 1,5-bis(1,1-pyrrole)-3-oxabutane (MI), 1,8-bis(I,I-pyrrole)-3,6-dioxahexane (MII), and 1,11-bis(1,1-pyrrole)-3,6,9-trioxaundecane (MIII) using anhydrous FeCl3 in CHCl3. Because as obtained polymer resins did not give any response toward any cations, they were reduced (undoped) using chemical reducing agents. Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide was found to be more effective in undoping to obtain more reproducible and reusable polymer resins. The undoped polymer resins were tried in the extraction of rare earth metal ions from the aqueous medium. Among them, only PIII resin removes La(III), Eu(III) and Yb(III) and can be employed for the preconcentration of these metal ions. For batch extraction of La(III), Eu(III) and Yb(III) at neutral pH values, percent recoveries of 98.0 +/- 1.0, 90.7 +/- 1.4, 87.3 +/- 4.0, respectively, has been obtained. The sorption capacity is found as 1.3 mg of La(III) per gram of PIII resin. The PIII resin could be reused at least five times without significant change in its sorption capacity. The ore samples previously subjected to drying, calcination and prereduction stages were smelted in alumina crucibles in a horizontal tube furnace under argon atmosphere. For the smelting system used in the present work, 1550 degrees C and 40 minutes were determined to be the optimum smelting temperature and time, respectively. 25% excess coal addition in prereduction stage was reported to be crucial to obtain the desired Ni content in the final product. Colemanite in calcined form has long been known as a flux used in pyrometallurgical systems such as steelmaking and copper matte-smelting. To investigate the effects of calcined colemanite addition on the ferronickel metal-slag system, calcined colemanite of 2% and 4% of the total metal and slag weight was charged as a flux and smelted under the optimum conditions described above.
