Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 4Exploiting Visual Features in Financial Time Series Prediction(Igi Global, 2020) Karacor, Adil Gursel; Erkan, Turan ErmanThe possibility to enhance prediction accuracy for foreign exchange rates was investigated in two ways: first applying an outside the box approach to modeling price graphs by exploiting their visual properties, and secondly employing the most efficient methods to detect patterns to classify the direction of movement. The approach that exploits the visual properties of price graphs which make use of density regions along with high and low values describing the shape; hence, the authors propose the name 'Finance Vision.' The data used in the predictive model consists of 1-hour past price values of 4 different currency pairs, between 2003 and 2016. Prediction performances of state-of-the-art methods; Extreme Gradient Boosting, Artificial Neural Network and Support Vector Machines are compared over the same data with the same sets of features. There are various methods regarding the selection of staff in the field. As there are increasing improvements in the field of education, universities around the world demand high quality and professional academic staffs. The present paper examines a fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) for selecting the most suitable academic staff, where five candidates under ten different sub-criteria are evaluated and prioritised. The FAHP method adopted here uses Triangular Fuzzy Numbers (TFN). The inability of AHP to deal with the impression and subjectiveness in the pair-wise comparison process has been improved in the FAHP. Instead of a crisp value, the FAHP generates a range of values to incorporate the decision-makers uncertainty. Also, a real case study is presented.Article Citation - WoS: 22Citation - Scopus: 30Selecting the Best Warehouse Data Collecting System by Using Ahp and Fahp Methods(Univ Osijek, Tech Fac, 2014) Erkan, Turan Erman; Can, Gulin Feryal; Industrial EngineeringRecently companies have begun to use their storage effectively to attain leadership in the market environment, utilizing Barcode and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems for warehouse management. In this study AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and FAHP (Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process) are used to choose between Barcode and RFID systems for the company warehouse data collection system. This decision is affected by four criteria which are: cost, functionality, sustainability and performance. The barcode system was preferred by 68 % and RFID was preferred by 32 % according to AHP. For FAHP, barcode system was preferred by 72 % and RFID was preferred by 28 %. Consequently AHP values are consistent with FAHP values. Especially, in the global competition environment, enterprises have to focus on their Information Systems ( IS) performance to have a competitive advantage; implementing an ERP system and improving the effectiveness of the system is the only way. However every sector reacts to ERP implementation differently. Purpose of this study is to rank the sectors according to their performance increments after successful ERP implementations by using AHP-TOPSIS hybrid method. As a result, general structure of Turkish companies will be pictured and the sectors which have the most chance to improve their performance by utilizing an ERP system will be defined. These findings will help the companies to plan the implementation process more precisely and help the managers of these companies to define their expectations more clearly. The purpose of this pilot study is to analyse purchasing AS-IS processes, to make benchmarking to the competitors for doing comparison, to determine criteria for alternative purchasing AS-IS processes, to develop TO-BE processes, to select the best suitable alternative by the help of BPR (Business Process Reengineering) Methodology, Decision Tree Analysis and Weighted Objective Method and finally, TO-BE processes of the Retail Market are mapped.
