    Users' Behavioral Strategies Toward Mobile App Problems: Fight or Flight

    In this paper, we identify two distinct behavioral strategies for dealing with problems encountered in the use of mobile apps - fight or flight. In the fight strategy, individuals do not give up using an app when faced with a problem; rather, they experiment with different ways to cope with that problem, whereas the flight strategy refers to the user's decision to uninstall an app when they encounter a problem and/or their intention to use an alternative app. These strategies were identified from an analysis of documents, which forty-two users reported, and can be used to understand how users deal with encountered problems. The participants were asked to use a mobile app of their choice for one week and report the behavioral strategies they utilized to counter problems they experienced. According to the findings obtained from content analysis, the most reported complaints concerned the categories of interface design, functional error, feature request, and feature removal. The participants who complained about functional errors, frustrating features, and slow application speed stopped using the app (flight behavior) whereas those that were dissatisfied with the interface, a missing feature or the content of the app continued to use the app and tried to overcome the problems (fight behavior).

    Ux Professionals' Definitions of Usability and Ux - a Comparison Between Turkey, Finland, Denmark, France and Malaysia

    This paper examines the views of user experience (UX) professionals on the definitions of usability and UX, and compares the findings between countries and within different socio-cultural groups. A mixed-method analysis was employed on data gathered on 422 professionals through a survey in Turkey, Finland, Denmark, France, and Malaysia. Usability appears to be an established concept, respondents across all countries agreeing on the importance of the ISO 9241-11 definition. There is also a tendency that UX professionals attach organizational perspective to usability. UX professionals diverge when defining UX, and there are systematic differences related to socio-cultural conditions. UX professionals in Finland and France incline more towards the definition highlighting the experiential qualities, when compared to Turkey and Malaysia that incline towards the definition reflecting the ease of use, utility, attractiveness, and degree of usage. Further research should address the implications of the diverse meanings and contexts of usability and UX.

    Embryo Spatial Model Reconstruction

    Time lapse microscopy offered new solutions to study embryo development process. It allows embryologist to monitor embryo growth in real time and evaluate them without interfering into their growth environment. Embryo evaluation during growth process is one of the key criteria in embryo selection for fertilization. Live embryo monitoring is time consuming and new tools are offered to automate part of process. Our proposed algorithm gives new possibilities for embryo monitoring. It uses embryo images which are taken from different embryo layers, extracts embryo cell features and returns metrical evaluation to compare different embryos. High number of extracted features shows embryo fragmentation. Other tool whichwe present is spatial embryo model. Features extracted from embryo layers are combined together to spatial model. It allows embryologist to examine embryo model and compare different layers in one space. The obtained spatial embryo model will be later used to develop new algorithms for embryo analysis tasks.

    A Software Development Process Model for Cloud by Combining Traditional Approaches

    Even though cloud computing is a technological paradigm that has been adopted more and more in various domains, there are few studies investigating the software development lifecycle in cloud computing applications and there is still not a comprehensive software development process model developed for cloud computing yet. Due to the nature of cloud computing that is completely different from the traditional software development, there is a need of suggesting process models to perform the software development systematically to create high quality software. In this study, we propose a new conceptual Software Development Life Cycle Model for Cloud Software Development that incorporates characteristics of different process models for traditional software development. The proposed model takes traditional model's specific characteristics into account and also considers cloud's specific nature i.e. advantages and challenges as well.

    A Methodological Approach To Verify Architecture Resiliency

    Architecture-first approach to address software resiliency is becoming the mainstream development method for mission-critical and software-intensive systems. In such approach, resiliency is built into the system from the ground up, starting with a robust software architecture design. As a result, a flaw in the design of a resilient architecture affects the system's ability to anticipate, withstand, recover from, and adapt to adverse conditions, stresses, attacks, or compromises on cyber-resources. In this paper, we present an architecture-centric reasoning and verification methodology for detecting design weaknesses in resilient systems. Our goal is to assist software architects in building sound architectural models of their systems. We showcase our approach with the aid of an Autonomous Robot modeled in AADL, in which we use our methodology to uncover three architectural weaknesses in the adoption of three architectural tactics.

    Scale Up Internet-Based Business Through Distributed Data Centers

    Distributed data centers are becoming more and more important for internet-based companies. Without distributed data centers, it will be hard for internet companies to scale up their business. The traditional centralized data center suffers the drawback of bottle neck and single failure problem. Therefore, more and more internet companies are building distributed data centers, and more and more business are moved onto distributed Web services. This paper reviews the history of distributed Web services and studies their current status through examining the distributed data centers of several top Internet companies. Based on the study, we conclude that distributed services, including distributed data centers, are the key factors to scale up the business of a company, especially, an internet-based company.

    A Fixed Point Result on the Interesting Abstract Space: Partial Metric Spaces

    Approximation of Discontinuous Functions by q-bernstein Polynomials

    This chapter presents an overview of the results related to the q-Bernstein polynomials with q > 1 attached to discontinuous functions on [0, 1]. It is emphasized that the singularities of such functions located on the set Jq : = {0} boolean OR {q-l}(l=0, infinity), q > 1 are definitive for the investigation of the convergence properties of their q-Bernstein polynomials.

    A Case Study on Measuring the Size of Microservices

    In cloud computing, the microservices has become the mostly used architectural style. However, there is still an ongoing debate about how big a microservice should be. In this case study, a monolith application is measured using Common Software Measurement International Consortium (COSMIC) Function Points. The same application is divided into pieces by following the Domain Driven Design (DDD) principles. The resulting cloud friendly microservices are measured again using COSMIC Function Points and the obtained results are compared.

    A Systematic Literature Review on Microservices

    The cloud is an emerging paradigm which leads the way for different approaches and standards. The architectural styles are evolving based on the requirements of the cloud as well. In recent years microservices is seen as the architecture style for scalable, fast evolving cloud applications. As part of this paper, a systematic mapping study was carried out around microservices. It is aiming to find out the current trends around microservices, the motivation behind microservices research, emerging standards and the possible research gaps. The obtained results can help researchers and practitioner in software engineering domain who want to be aware of new trends about SOA and cloud computing.
