Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Characterization of Satellite Transponder Impairments Based on Simulations with Test Data(Ieee, 2015) Ulubey, Orhan; Gulgonul, Senol; Kara, AliA satellite transponder simulator based on actual test data of TURKSAT 3A satellite has been developed to analyze degradation in multicarrier scenarios. Communication impairment sources through a transponder are explained in conjunction with a methodology defined to characterize total degradation resulting from them. Several transponder utilization scenarios are studied with respect to total degradation and optimum operation conditions are demonstrated.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1An Undergraduate Curriculum for Deep Learning(Ieee, 2018) Tirkes, Guzin; Ekin, Cansu Cigdem; Sengul, Gokhan; Bostan, Atila; Karakaya, MuratDeep Learning (DL) is an interesting and rapidly developing field of research which has been currently utilized as a part of industry and in many disciplines to address a wide range of problems, from image classification, computer vision, video games, bioinformatics, and handwriting recognition to machine translation. The starting point of this study is the recognition of a big gap between the sector need of specialists in DL technology and the lack of sufficient education provided by the universities. Higher education institutions are the best environment to provide this expertise to the students. However, currently most universities do not provide specifically designed DL courses to their students. Thus, the main objective of this study is to design a novel curriculum including two courses to facilitate teaching and learning of DL topic. The proposed curriculum will enable students to solve real-world problems by applying DL approaches and gain necessary background to adapt their knowledge to more advanced, industry-specific fields.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1THE USE OF CUMULANTS FOR VOICED-UNVOICED SEGMENTS IDENTIFICATION IN SPEECH SIGNALS(Ieee, 2014) Uslu, Baran; Tora, HakanIn this study, voiced-unvoiced classification performance of Turkish sounds using skewness and kurtosis is examined. The analyses show that higher order cumulants can be employed as a feature in voiced-unvoiced classification that is vital in speech processing applications. Furthermore, it has been shown that cumulants are also useful for identifying voiced and unvoiced segments in noisy speech signals.Conference Object Using learning style theory in remote laboratory applications(Ieee, 2007) Tokdemir, Guel; Cagiltay, Nergiz ErcilStudies have shown that, while learning different concepts, people sometimes use different approaches. These different approaches define individual learning styles. Understanding learning style differences is thus an important step in improving performance of the individuals and educational institutions. In this study, a learning style assessment tool was used to examine the relationship between students' learning styles and their performance in engineering education programs of Atilim University. 329 students (55 female) participated in this study. At their first year in the program, students' learning styles are measured by a learning style assessment tool developed by David Kolb. The results show that, at the Atilim University's engineering education program, most of the students are having assimilator type of learning style (45%). Convergers (27%) and divergers (22%) follow the assimilators. The number of accommodators is very limited (5%). This information can be used to create adaptive teaching environments in distance education courses.Conference Object COMPARISON OF COMPUTER-BASED PROPAGATION MODELS WITH EXPERIMENTAL DATA COLLECTED IN AN URBAN AREA AT 1800 MHz(Ieee, 2015) Acar, Tarik; Caliskan, Fatma; Aydin, ElifNowadays a lot of models are set for the efficient and economic usage of frequency band since the band is a limited source. Therefore, the propagation models created for this purpose were studied in the literature. These models are Free Space Path Loss (Fspl) + Reflection plus Multiple Diffraction (RMD), COST-Hata and COST-WI models. In order to compare the success of the models, electric field strength measurements were taken in a chosen district (Mustafa Kemal Mahallesi Ankara, Turkey) where an irregular structure style can be observed. First set of measurements were recorded at random coordinates and second set of measurements were collected by the following coordinates tracking on a single line. As a conclusion, measured values were compared with the results which were taken from the mentioned models with graphical presentations. The most appropriate model was tried to be found and as another aim of the study, a correction factor was generated as a modification for COST-Hata propagation model.Conference Object Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy of Monolayers with Thin Film Interference Coatings(Ieee, 2017) Ayas, Sencer; Bakan, Gokhan; Ozgur, Erol; Celebi, Kemal; dana, AykutluWe report high performance Infrared spectroscopy platforms based on interference coatings on metal using CaF2 dielectric films and Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST) phase-change films. IR vibrational bands of proteins and organic monolayers are also detected.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 3An Agent-based Trading Infrastructure for Combinatorial Reverse Auctions(Ieee, 2014) Bayindir, Hakan; Kilic, Hurevren; Rehan, MohammedA Combinatorial Reverse Auction Trading Infrastructure - CRATI is designed and implemented as an agent-based system. Two basic building blocks Java Agent Development Framework (JADE) and an Open Source Java Constraint Programming Library (Choco Solver) are used to facilitate agent interactions and an optimization task. For our purpose, it is shown that auction Winner Determination Problem (WDP) can suitably be represented as a weighted set covering problem instance whose solution gives the decided winners of the auction process. In order to realize the system, a variation of Contract Net protocol is designed and implemented to handle auctions that occur in the platform from start to finish.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Parking Space Occupancy Detection Using Deep Learning Methods(Ieee, 2018) Akinci, Fatih Can; Karakaya, MuratThis paper presents an approach for gathering information about the availabilty of the parking lots using Convoltional Neural Network (CNN) for image processing running on an embedded system. By using an efiicent neural network model, we made it possible to use a very low cost embedded system compared to the ones used in previous works on this topic. This efficient model's performance is compared to one of the models that proved its accuracy in image classification competitions. In these tests, we used datasets that has thousands of different images taken from parking lots in different light and weather conditions.Conference Object A remote laboratory for training in radio communications(Ieee, 2007) Kara, Ali; Aydin, Elif Uray; Oektem, Rusen; Cagiltay, NergizThis paper presents, first, a short survey of remote laboratory initiatives in electrical and computer engineering, and then discusses design and development phases of remote laboratory environment on radio communications, the ERRL (European Remote Radio Laboratory). As being the first. attempt in establishing of such a large scale remote laboratory on radio communications, ERRL enables access to high technology RF equipments and setups through the Internet. The software structure, target groups and experimental set ups of ERRL are shortly discussed. First attempts on implementation of pilot experiments are discussed.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 1A New Approach for Addressing Slip Ratio Optimization and Trajectory Tracking Challenges in Autonomous Tractor Operations(Ieee, 2024) Aydin, Gulsah Demirhan; Aydemir, Ali Bahadir; Kansou, Mohamad Thaer; Altinuc, Kemal Orcun; Mechatronics Engineering; Mechatronics EngineeringThe usage of autonomous agricultural machines is increasing. In this study, two controllers have been designed for trajectory following and longitudinal tire slip ratio control of a rear-wheel independent traction electric autonomous tractor. The first controller is model predictive control (MPC) and the second controller is proportional integral derivative (PID) based. To evaluate the performance of the controllers in the simulation environment, a mathematical tractor model is prepared. Simulations have been made and performances of the designed controllers are shared.
