(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2022) Macakoglu, Sevval Seray; Cinar, Burcu Alakus; Peker, Serhat
Purpose In the recent years, the rapid growth of the grocery retailing industry has created a great heterogeneity in prices across sellers in the market. Online price comparison agents which are key mechanisms to solve this problem by providing prices from different sellers. However, there are many sellers in the grocery industry do not offer online service, and so it is impossible to automatically retrieve price information from such grocery stores. In this manner, crowdsourcing can become an essential source of information by collecting current price data from shoppers. Therefore, this paper aims to propose Kiyaslio, a gamified mobile crowdsourcing application that provides price information of products from different grocery markets. Design/methodology/approach Kiyaslio has been developed through leveraging the power of crowdsourcing technology. Game elements have also been used to increase the willingness of users to contribute on price data entries. The proposed application is implemented using design science methodology, and it has been evaluated through usability testing by two well-known techniques which are the system usability scale and the net promoter score. Findings The results of the usability tests indicate that participants find Kiyaslio as functional, useful and easy to use. These findings prove its applicability and user acceptability. Practical implications The proposed platform supports crowd sourced data collection and could be effectively used as a tool to support shoppers to easily access current market product prices. Originality/value This paper presents a mobile application platform for tracking current prices in the grocery retail market whose strength is based on the crowdsourcing concept and incorporation of game elements.

(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2025) Alqaifi, Faten; Tengilimoglu, Dilaver
PurposeAdvancements in science and technology have integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into dentistry, improving treatment processes, operational efficiency, and clinical outcomes. However, AI adoption among dentists remains underexplored, hindering progress in oral healthcare. This study aims to identify key barriers to AI adoption and examine factors influencing dentists' intention to use AI.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative cross-sectional approach was employed, utilizing self-administered questionnaires distributed online and across various dental clinics and hospitals in Ankara, Turkey. A total of 440 dentists participated in the study. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS and SmartPLS.FindingsThe study found that AI-anxiety negatively affects the intention to adopt AI in dentistry, showing a medium (almost large) effect that is stronger than other UTAUT factors such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence, which demonstrated only small effects. Dentists with higher anxiety about learning and sociotechnical blindness are less likely to adopt AI, while concerns about job replacement and AI-configuration have less but still significant impact.Research limitations/implicationsThese results contribute to the growing body of knowledge on technology adoption in oral healthcare and provide practical implications for technology developers, policymakers, and other stakeholders seeking to facilitate AI integration in dentistry.Originality/valueThis study provides novel insights into AI adoption in dentistry, offering guidance for future development and integration, and addressing a critical research gap in a growing field-particularly in Turkey, where implementation is still in its early stages.

Kavaklidere-Ankara: the Formation of a Residential District During the 1950s
(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2015) Resuloglu, Cilga; Ergut, Elvan Altan; Interior Architecture and Environmental Design
This paper aims to examine the formation of Kayak Were as a 'modern' residential district during the 1950s. Contemporary urbanization brought about changes in various regions of Ankara, among which Kavaklidere emerged as an important location with features that defined a new stage in the development of the identity of the capital city. The construction of houses in this district from the early 1950s onwards was in accordance with new functional requirements resulting from the needs of the contemporary socio-economic context, and exemplified the relationship between architectural approaches and social developments. In line with the rapid urbanization of Ankara throughout the 1950s, daily life in Kavaklidere was transformed, as experienced in the apartment blocks that were the newly constructed sites of modernization. The contemporary transformation of Kavaklidere was apparently formal and spatial, with the modernist architectural approach of the period, i.e. the so-called International Style, beginning to dominate in the shaping of its changing character. Nonetheless, the transformation was not only architectural but also social: the characteristics of this part of the city were then defined by structures like these apartment blocks, which brought modernist design features, together with modern ways of living, into wider public use and appreciation. The paper discusses how the identity of Kavaklidere as a residential district was formed in the context of the mid-twentieth century, when these new residences emerged as pioneering modernist architectural housing, the product of social change, which housed and hence facilitated the 'modern' lifestyle of that time.

Does the Relationship Between Sustainable Human Resource Management and Organizational Identification Vary by Culture ? Evidence From 35 Countries Based on Globe Framework
    (Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2025) Turek, D.; Wojtczuk-Turek, A.; Edgar, F.; Podgorodnichenko, N.; Okay-Somerville, B.; Fu, N.; Zhang, G.
Purpose: The article discusses the relationships between sustainable HRM and organizational identification, conceptualized at the individual level, and the moderating role of cultural dimensions conceptualized at the country level (described in GLOBE’s framework). The study’s theoretical model based on social exchange theory proposes that sustainable HRM practice increases organizational identification. However, the strength of this identification depends on the dimensions of national culture. Thus, we assumed national culture functions as a second-level moderator in the relationship between sustainable HRM and organizational identification. Design/methodology/approach: We conducted the study with data from 10,421 employees across 35 countries. We used a multilevel modeling approach for data analysis. Findings: The study revealed the cross-level interaction effects of national culture on the relationship between sustainable HRM practice and organizational identification. Specifically, the results indicate that sustainable HRM strengthens employees’ organizational identification more in cultures with higher levels of gender egalitarianism and lower levels of humane orientation. Originality/value: This study demonstrates that the relationship between sustainable HRM practices and employees’ organizational identification is culturally sensitive. It highlights the need to consider cultural context when assessing the impact of sustainable HRM practices on employee outcomes. Furthermore, it shows that certain cultural dimensions can enhance the effect of sustainable HRM practices. © 2025, Emerald Publishing Limited.

(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2024) Yilmaz, Ayse Asli; Tuzlukaya, Sule Erdem
PurposeThe purpose of this study is to depict the value added by digital transformation to intellectual capital (IC) by virtue of the studies reached by the literature review on different databases are examined.Design/methodology/approachJournal of Intellectual Capital, which has the highest number of records from the resources included in the "Web of Science" content and covering the title of "intellectual capital" has been selected in this study. Research using bibliometric analysis has been conducted and it has been determined that the terms "digital transformation" and "intellectual capital" should be searched for simultaneously in each and every article published in the journal between the years 1975 and 2022.FindingsA bibliometric analysis and citation mapping process are carried out considering all dimensions to reach the results and interpretation of findings. VOSviewer is used to visualize the bibliometric networks of results and findings in the form of scientific mapping, as well as to visualize the co-authorship analysis of keywords, co-authorship analysis and citation networks.Research limitations/implicationsBibliometric analysis is a method that can be used to evaluate the performance of a single journal. However, it is important to note that bibliometric analysis has some limitations when it comes to assessing the validity of a single journal. This circumstance is elaborately described as a limitation of this study. Bibliometric analysis is a method that can be used to evaluate the performance of a single journal. However, it is important to note that bibliometric analysis has some limitations when it comes to assessing the validity of a single journal. One limitation is that bibliometric analysis is based on quantitative metrics, such as citation counts, which do not take into account the quality of the research. Therefore, bibliometric analysis alone may not provide a complete picture of the validity of a single journal. In addition, bibliometric analysis is based on the number of times a paper is cited, which can be influenced by factors such as the prestige of the journal, the field of research and the time since the publication. In conclusion, bibliometric analysis can be used to evaluate the performance of a single journal, but it is important to consider its limitations.Originality/valueThis study identified contributions, gaps and limits based on the results of a bibliometric analysis. Italy is the most influential country and the issue is structured around four clusters: IC; digital transformation; human capital; and knowledge management. As previously unexplored issues are addressed in an innovative manner, it is acceptable to underline the paper's originality.

A Hybrid Approach for Predicting Customers' Individual Purchase Behavior
(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2017) Peker, Serhat; Kocyigit, Altan; Eren, P. Erhan
Purpose - Predicting customers' purchase behaviors is a challenging task. The literature has introduced the individual-level and the segment-based predictive modeling approaches for this purpose. Each method has its own advantages and drawbacks, and performs in certain cases. The purpose of this paper is to propose a hybrid approach which predicts customers' individual purchase behaviors and reduces the limitations of these two methods by combining the advantages of them. Design/methodology/approach - The proposed hybrid approach is established based on individual-level and segment-based approaches and utilizes the historical transactional data and predictive algorithms to generate predictions. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is experimentally evaluated in the domain of supermarket shopping by using real-world data and using five popular machine learning classification algorithms including logistic regression, decision trees, support vector machines, neural networks and random forests. Findings - A comparison of results shows that the proposed hybrid approach substantially outperforms the individual-level and the segment-based approaches in terms of prediction coverage while maintaining roughly comparable prediction accuracy to the individual-level method. Moreover, the experimental results demonstrate that logistic regression performs better than the other classifiers in predicting customer purchase behavior. Practical implications - The study concludes that the proposed approach would be beneficial for enterprises in terms of designing customized services and one-to-one marketing strategies. Originality/value - This study is the first attempt to adopt a hybrid approach combining individual-level and segment-based approaches to predict customers' individual purchase behaviors.

Spatial Design in Recent Housing Developments in Copenhagen: a Perspective of Social Mix and Mixing
(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2023) Bican, Nezih Burak
PurposeThis study attempts to reveal the contemporary tools of spatial design - policy, planning, urban design and architecture - for social mix (SMX) and social mixing (SMXG) by focusing on the recent undertakings in Denmark, the case in point being Copenhagen.Design/methodology/approachThe study applies a combined research methodology consisting of qualitative strategies. By making use of regulatory document reviews and interviews with key respondents, the study puts together the tools for SMX which are, otherwise, disorganised. Dwelling on reviews of municipal local plans, site visits and semi-structured interviews with municipal agents in charge, it provides a comparative urban morphology analysis of three recently developed neighbourhoods on the basis of SMX and SMXG.FindingsThis study presents the untitled "toolbox" of Danish authorities to regulate the SMX policies and spatial efforts within a variety of planning/design scales to facilitate SMXG among the inhabitants of the neighbourhoods. The examination of successive cases manifests that SMX strategies have been integrated with those of SMXG, with a gradual upwards inclination, since mixing different tenures, types, sizes and prices have not been successful in guaranteeing social interaction. In doing so, the "in-between" zones have become the primary realm of control with an observable differentiation in the studied cases.Originality/valueStudies are scant concerning the spatial design efforts regarding social mix and mixing. The present work contributes to filling this gap by examining a cutting-edge practice in a mature milieu and describing it in a thorough and comparative manner.
