A New Multi-Target Compiler Architecture for Edge-Devices and Cloud Management
    (Gazi Univ, 2022) Gokcay, Erhan
Edge computing is the concept where the computation is handled at edge-devices. The transfer of the computation from servers to edge-devices will decrease the massive amount of data transfer generated by edge-devices. There are several efficient management tools for setup and connection purposes, but these management tools cannot provide a unified programming system from a single source code/project. Even though it is possible to control each device efficiently, a global view of the computation is missing in a programming project that includes several edge-devices for computation and data analysis purposes, and the devices need to be programmed individually. A generic workflow engine might automate part of the problem using standard interfaces and predefined objects miming on edge-devices. Nevertheless, the approach fails in fine-tuning each edge-device since the computation cannot be moved easily among devices. This paper introduces a new compiler architecture to control and program edge-devices from a single source code. The source code can be distributed to multiple edge-devices using simple compiler directives, and the transfer and communication of the source code with multiple devices are handled transparently. Fine-tuning the source code and code movement between devices becomes very efficient in editing and time. The proposed architecture is a lightweight system with fine-tuned computation and distribution among devices.

(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2021) Kandemir, Muhammed; Bektur Aykanat, Nuriye Ezgi; Yaşar, Necdet Fatih; Özkurt, Mete; Özyurt, Rumeysa; Aykanat, Nuriye Ezgi Bektur; Erkasap, Nilüfer; Bektur Aykanat, Nuriye Ezgi; Basic Sciences; Basic Sciences
Background/aim: Even though interleukin-1 receptor antagonist, IL-1Ra, is used in certain inflammatory diseases, its effect on ischemia-reperfusion injury is a current research topic. We aimed to investigate the protective effects of anakinra, an IL-1Ra, on the I/R induced intestinal injury. Materials and methods: The rat model of intestinal ischemia-reperfusion was induced. Rats were randomized into 4 groups: (group 1) control group, (group 2) I/R group, (group 3 and 4) treatment groups (50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg, respectively). Gene expressions of caspase-3, TNF-α, IL-1α, IL-6, and apoptotic cells in tissue samples were evaluated by PCR and TUNEL methods, respectively. Plasma levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and malondialdehyde (MDA) were studied by the ELISA method and tissue samples were examined histopathologically as well. Results: Anakinra inhibited the expression of IL-1α, IL-6, and TNF-α and decreased the SOD, CAT, and MDA caused by ischemiareperfusion injury in both treatment groups. Caspase-3 expression and TUNEL-positive cell number in treatment groups were also less. Histopathologically, anakinra better preserved the villous structure of the small intestine at a dose of 100 mg/kg than 50 mg/kg.Conclusion: Anakinra decreased the intestinal damage caused by ischemia-reperfusion and a dose of 100 mg/kg was found to be histopathologically more effective.Key words: Ischemia reperfusion injury, interleukin-1 receptor antagonist, anakinra

An Application of Stochastic Maximum Principle for a Constrained System With Memory
(Ankara Univ, Fac Sci, 2025) Savku, Emel
In this research article, we study a stochastic control problem in a theoretical frame to solve a constrained task under memory impact. The nature of memory is modeled by Stochastic Differential Delay Equations and our state process evolves according to a jump-diffusion process with time-delay. We work on two specific types of constraints, which are described in the stochastic control problem as running gain components. We develop two theorems for corresponding deterministic and stochastic Lagrange multipliers. Furthermore, these theorems are applicable to a wide range of continuous-time stochastic optimal control problems in a diversified scientific area such as Operations Research, Biology, Computer Science, Engineering and Finance. Here, in this work, we apply our results to a financial application to investigate the optimal consumption process of a company via its wealth process with historical performance. We utilize the stochastic maximum principle, which is one of the main methods of continuous-time Stochastic Optimal Control theory. Moreover, we compute a real-valued Lagrange multiplier and clarify the relation between this value and the specified constraint.

Neuroprotective effects of adrenomedullin in experimental traumatic brain injury model in rats
(Turkish Assoc Trauma Emergency Surgery, 2022) Emmez, Gokcen; Bulduk, Erkut Baha; Yildirim, Zuhal
BACKGROUND: Traumatic brain injuries cause damages in the brain in several ways, which include cell death because of edema, disruption of the blood-brain barrier, shear stress, and ischemia. In this study, we investigated the effects of adrenomedullin (AM) on oxidative stress and inflammation after head traumas in a rat model. METHODS: Eighteen male adult Wistar albino rats were randomized into three groups (n=6). No traumas were applied to the control (C) group. Traumas were applied in line with Marmarau trauma model in the trauma group. The rats in the AM treatment group were treated with post-traumatic 12 mu g/kg i.p. AM in addition to the trauma group. The rats were followed for 7 days in all groups and were then sacrificed. Brain tissues and blood samples were taken. RESULTS: In the trauma group, both tissue and serum MDA, TNF-alpha, and IL-6 levels were significantly increased compared to the control group (p<0.05). In the AM-treated group, serum TNF-alpha levels were significantly decreased compared to the trauma group (p<0.05). In the trauma group, both tissue and serum GSH levels were significantly decreased compared to the control group (p<0.05). In the trauma group, serum Vitamin D3 levels were significantly decreased compared to the control group (p<0.05). In the AM-treated group, both tissue and serum GSH levels were significantly increased compared to the trauma group (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: These results indicate that AM has neuroprotective effects on traumatic brain injury in a rat model.

(Baycinar Medical Publ-Baycinar Tibbi Yayincilik, 2024) Ayhan, Fikriye Figen; Külcü, Duygu Geler; Keleş, Elif Çiğdem; Dinç, Arzu; Mesci, Nilgün; Çakmak, Bahar; Yılmaz, Zeynep Alpoğuz
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the efficacy of epidermis dermis fascia (EDF) kinesiotaping (KT) technique on pain intensity, number of active trigger points (TrPs), cervical range of motion (ROM) angles, and disability levels in patients with myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) on upper trapezius (UT) muscle. Patients and methods: Between January 2019 and January 2020, a total of 180 patients (21 males, 159 females; mean age: 35.9±9.0 years; range, 18 to 56 years) with MPS were included. The patients were randomized into either KT with EDF technique (Group 1) or sham KT (Group 2). Outcome measures were Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain score, number of active TrPs, cervical ROM angles, and Neck Pain Disability Scale (NPDS). Results: Both groups improved in terms of all outcome parameters except for cervical flexion and extension angles in Group 2. The VAS pain scores significantly decreased in Group 1 (p<0.05), compared to Group 2. The number of active TrPs (p=0.001) and NPDS scores (p=0.016) of Group 1 significantly improved than Group 2. Cervical flexion (p=0.001), extension (p=0.001), and left and right lateral flexion angles (p<0.0001) significantly improved in Group 1. Cervical left (p=0.001) and right (p<0.0001) lateral flexion angles significantly improved in Group 2. There was no significant difference between the groups regarding cervical ROM angles. Conclusion: Our study results suggest that KT with the EDF technique is an effective method in reducing pain and number of active TrPs, improving disability and cervical ROM angles.

Evaluation of procedural and clinical outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve implantation: A single-center experience
(Kare Publ, 2020) Karaduman, Bilge Duran; Kayaoğlu, Hüseyin Ayhan; Keleş, Telat; Bozkurt, Engin
Objective: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an established alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement. Our study aimed to evaluate the implementation of TAVI at our large-volume center, having an all-comer patient population with short and long-term follow-ups. Methods: This retrospective, single-center analysis included 556 consecutive patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis (AS) who underwent TAVI between July 2011 and December 2019. Results: The mean age of the entire population was 77.6±7.9 years, and 54.9% were women. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) mean score of the cohort was 6.0%±3.5%. The balloon-expandable valve (Sapien XT, Sapien 3; Edwards Lifesciences, Irvine, California) was the most frequently used valves in this cohort (94.6%). Transfemoral access was used in 96.3% of patients. Implantation success was achieved in 96.6% of cases. During the TAVI procedure, 7.2% of patients required permanent pacemaker implantation, with 37.5% in the Lotus valve group needing the most permanent pacemakers. The mean length of hospital stay for the entire cohort was 4.5±2.3 days. Overall, 22 (3.9%) in-hospital deaths occurred before hospital discharge. The mean follow-up period was 15.1±14.9 months for all patients, and a significant improvement was noted in all echocardiographic parameters and functional capacity. Paravalvular leak (PVL) was documented in 18.9% patients, mild in 17.9%, and moderate in 1% at discharge. No cases with severe PVL, necessitating additional procedures. The multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that sex, STS score, baseline SYNTAX score, bicuspid valve morphology, common femoral artery diameter, and post-TAVI PVL were independent predictors of overall mortality. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this study, which is the largest single-center real-world experience of TAVI in Turkey, demonstrated low complication rates with favorable short- and mid-term THV performance in patients undergoing TAVI.

Isometric Representations of Calibrated Ordered Spaces on C(X)
(Ankara University, Fac Sci, 2025) Ay, Serdar
The problem of characterizing normed ordered spaces which admit a representation in the algebraic, order and norm sense as a subspace of $C(X)$, the space of all continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space is a classical problem that has been considered by many authors. In this article we consider the more general case of calibrated ordered spaces, that is, ordered spaces with a specified family of seminorms generating its topology. For such spaces equivalent conditions on representability as a subspace of $C(X)$ for some locally compact Hausdorff space $X$, in the algebraic, order and seminorm sense are stated and proved. Some characterizations appear to be new even in the normed case. A recent result on isometric representations of locally ordered spaces fall under the results in this paper with more general statements. As an application of the main theorems, we state and prove a characterization of norm additivity property of two positive functionals.

A Miniaturized Multi-Layer Microstrip Antenna for Linear Wireless Sensor Network Monitoring Systems
(Gazi Univ, 2022) Kara, Ali; Aydın, Elif; Benzaghta, Mohamed; Er, Burak; Bilgin, Gulsima
This article presents a sub-GHz ISM band microstrip patch antenna based on the use of multi-layer compact structure, which overcomes the shortcomings of typical microstrip antennas such as low gain and high resonant frequency. The antenna was simulated using an electromagnetic simulator, ANSYS HFSS, and fabricated on two different substrates: RT Duroid 5880 and FR4 epoxy with a compact size of 100 x 100 x 8 mm3 (0.29λ × 0.29λ × 0.02λ). The simulated results of the antenna were then compared with the measured ones, and the two were observed to have a reasonable agreement. The proposed antenna operates in the sub-GHz license-free ISM band (862-875 MHz), with a gain value of 2.92 dB. Two prototypes of the proposed antenna were fabricated and used in a Linear Wireless Sensor Networks (LWSNs) monitoring system. Results show that the proposed antenna is a good candidate for those types of LWSNs systems.
