    Lyapunov Inequalities and Applications
    (Springer International Publishing, 2021) Agarwal,R.P.; Bohner,M.; Özbekler,A.
This book provides an extensive survey on Lyapunov-type inequalities. It summarizes and puts order into a vast literature available on the subject, and sketches recent developments in this topic. In an elegant and didactic way, this work presents the concepts underlying Lyapunov-type inequalities, covering how they developed and what kind of problems they address. This survey starts by introducing basic applications of Lyapunov's inequalities. It then advances towards even-order, odd-order, and higher-order boundary value problems; Lyapunov and Hartman-type inequalities; systems of linear, nonlinear, and quasi-linear differential equations; recent developments in Lyapunov-type inequalities; partial differential equations; linear difference equations; and Lyapunov-type inequalities for linear, half-linear, and nonlinear dynamic equations on time scales, as well as linear Hamiltonian dynamic systems. Senior undergraduate students and graduate students of mathematics, engineering, and science will benefit most from this book, as well as researchers in the areas of ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations, difference equations, and dynamic equations. Some background in calculus, ordinary and partial differential equations, and difference equations is recommended for full enjoyment of the content. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021. Business Cycles and Energy Real Options Valuation
    (Springer International Publishing, 2021) Kenc,T.; Ekinci,M.F.
This paper uses a real options approach to value energy projects whose cash flows follow a normal distribution and subject to macroeconomic risks. Large and irreversible energy investments are usually modelled in real options frameworks with lognormal distributions. This line of research omits two important factors for energy investments. They are the existence of negative cash flows and the impact of business cycles. We developed a unified framework to capture the implications of these omitted features. The framework is based on an arithmetic Brownian motion (ABM) process for the dynamics of cash flows with regime shifts. Our numerical analysis provide results on investment triggering cash flow critical values, probability of investing and optimal investment time. Comparing these results with those obtained under a conventional real option value framework with geometric Brownian motion (GBM) suggests that there are significant differences across these models. The results indicate that ABM investors are more likely to invest within a specified period. Numerical analysis also points that macroeconomic risks are important for investors. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021, corrected publication 2021.

    Low Back Pain
    (Springer International Publishing, 2023) Aksekili,M.A.E.
Low back pain is the most common cause of avoiding work and physical activities. Therefore, it creates a heavy burden both on the patient and on the society. The biopsychological approach has taken over in the etiology of low back pain in the last decade. Despite the progress in diagnosis and treatment in recent years, difficulties in LBP management continue. Some factors that reduce the effectiveness of treatment can be summarized as a continuation of exposure to factors that cause and perpetuate, and different responses to pharmacological treatments. No identifiable underlying pathology can be found in 85-95% of the patients. Red flag findings should be investigated while evaluating the patient. In the first step, anamnesis and physical examination of the patient are usually sufficient for diagnosis. Radiology has no place in the diagnosis of nonspecific low back pain. Diagnostic radiology and laboratory tests could be performed when chronic low back pain or any other specific etiologies are considered. The aim of treatment is to relieve the pain and keep the patient active. Acute low back pain recovers by 80% in the first 2 weeks. Step-by-step treatment approach is recommended for acute low back pain. The patient should be taught to self-control his condition. Exercise and physical therapy methods can be applied as the physical dimension of the treatment. If psychosocial factors contributing to pain are prominent, psychosocial approaches, behavioral cognitive therapy, and biofeedback can be applied. Considering the occupational reasons that may lead to LBP, suggestions should be made regarding working conditions. Thus, with a multidisciplinary approach, biological, psychological, and social aspects should be evaluated and treatment should be shaped. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Effectiveness of macroprudential policies: Panel data evidence on the role of institutions, financial structure, and banking regulations
    (Springer International Publishing, 2021) Ekinci,M.F.; Özcan,G.
The effectiveness of macro-prudential policies to mitigate credit cycles and reduce capital flow volatility is at the center of policy debates. In this chapter, we investigate the factors which influence the performance of macro-prudential tools by focusing on institutions, financial structure, and banking sector regulations. We find strong evidence indicating that macro-prudential measures are more effective when they are complemented with a tighter regulatory framework. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021. Non-Discrimination of Religious Minorities in Turkey: a Fairytale
    (Springer International Publishing, 2022) Akdemir,T.G.
In Turkey, the principle of non-discrimination on the basis of religion has been a controversial issue given the fragility of the identity politics; the concept of minority, citizenship, unifying principles and religion being a gluing factor of society. © The Editor(s)(if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.

Acoustic Control of Flow Over Naca 2415 Aerofoil at Low Reynolds Numbers
    (Springer International Publishing, 2016) Serdar Genç,M.; Karasu,İ.; Hakan Açıkel,H.; Tuğrul Akpolat,M.; Özkan,G.
Within the concept of this study, first low Reynolds number flow phenomena, including laminar separation bubble (LSB) and stall were explained. Then a literature review on the acoustic flow control was presented in three categories: flow control with constant frequency, flow control with constant amplitude, and flow control with variable frequency and amplitude. Aside from the review part, results of a comprehensive experimental study on the effects of acoustic flow control at low Reynolds numbers were presented. Within the scope of this experimental study, the effects of both parallel and perpendicular acoustic flow control were examined by means of pressure measurements, force measurements, hot-wire anemometry, flow visualization, and particle image velocimetry (PIV). In order to establish a baseline data, all of the measurements were first applied for the no control case. The effects of acoustic control were examined especially on the characteristics of LSB and stall. It was found that the acoustic excitation can be employed to decrease the height and length of LSB leading to increased lift coefficient and decreased drag coefficient. Also, acoustic flow control increased the angle of stall. It was also seen that the effective excitation frequency increases also, but the range of Zaman number (St/Re0.5) based on effective frequency still is approximately same with increasing Reynolds numbers. Finally, it was shown that the general aerodynamics performance of an aerofoil at low Reynolds numbers can easily be enhanced by employing acoustic flow control, and the parameters of the acoustic flow control can easily be adjusted in order to keep up with the changing conditions of flow. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.
