A Niche-Based Perspective to Stem and Cancer Stem Cells of the Lung
(Springer, 2025) Boyacıoğlu, Özge; Kalali, Berfin Deniz; Tongün, Ege; Korkusuz, Petek
Lungs carry the principle function for the conduction and exchange of air through the primary, secondary, tertiary bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli, resulting in the exchange of oxygen to carbon dioxide within the human tissues. Lung stem and progenitor cells enable differentiation of parenchymal and stromal elements and provide homeostasis and regeneration in the microenvironment against pulmonary diseases. Tumor-initiating cancer cells (TICs) refer to a subpopulation named as cancer stem cells (CSCs) of lung cancer exhibiting high self-renewal and proliferation capacity by Notch, Hippo, Hedgehog, and Wnt signaling pathways that leads to tumor development or recurrence. Lung cancer stem cells (LCSCs) are characterized by distinct genotypic or phenotypic alterations compared to healthy lung stem cells (LSCs) that provide a potential target to treat lung cancer. Therefore, understanding the cascades responsible for the transformation of healthy to CSCs is essential to develop new targeted therapy approaches. In this chapter, we precisely highlight the latest researches on LSCs and CSCs, key signaling mechanisms within the perspective of novel targeted therapy strategies. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.

(E-Century Publishing Corp, 2025) Faraji, Mahdi; Khademi, Reza; Maleki, Maede; Jafari, Fatemeh; Olama, Ensiyeh; Saghafi, Mohammad Sadra; Anar, Mahsa Asadi
Objectives: Research on the relationship between celiac disease (CD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is still ongoing, and different studies have reported contradictory findings. To carry out a meta-analysis and systematic review to look into the connection between CD and CVD risk. Methods: A thorough search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases up to February 19, 2024. Relevant articles were extracted, and the titles, abstracts, and full texts of the related articles were screened. The quality of the studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tools. Results: Nine cohort and one case-control studies involving 49,621,333 individuals were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled analysis revealed a 7% increased risk of CVD in CD patients compared to controls (OR: 1.07, 95% CI: 1.03-1.10, P < 0.05). Significant heterogeneity was observed among studies (I2 = 76%, P < 0.001). Conclusion: This meta-analysis provides evidence of a modest but significant increase in CVD risk in patients with CD. The results highlight the importance of considering cardiovascular health in CD treatment and the need for further research to elucidate the mechanisms underlying this association and to develop targeted prevention strategies.

Anti-Immigration Conspiracy Beliefs Are Associated With Endorsement of Conventional and Violent Actions Opposing Immigration and Attitudes Towards Democracy Across 21 Countries
(SpringerNature, 2025) Thomas, Emma F.; Stothard, Christina; Besta, Tomasz; Akbas, Gulcin; Becker, Julia C.; Becker, Maja; van Zomeren, Martijn
Despite widespread speculation that conspiracy beliefs foster anti-democratic outcomes, the empirical picture is inconsistent. To clarify this literature, we examine the relationships that conspiracy beliefs have with commitment to reactionary action and criticism of democracy, focusing on a global issue: immigration. We expected that people who believe that their government uses immigration to diversify the population against citizens' wishes (anti-migration conspiracy beliefs) would be more committed to conventional and violent action to oppose immigration, and more critical of democracy. However, societal-level factors - economic performance and democratic functioning - were expected to influence (strengthen, weaken) these links. As hypothesized, multi-level analyses (N = 4353) from 21 countries revealed that economic prosperity attenuated the positive link between anti-migration conspiracy beliefs and commitment to reactionary action. Paradoxically, more democratic societies evidenced stronger links between conspiracy beliefs and conventional (but not violent) action to oppose immigration. Thus, more democratic societies appear to invite conventional forms of action to oppose immigration which may, in turn, weaken democratic norms of inclusion. Results highlight the interplay of individual- and societal-level factors underlying illiberal movements.

Gonioscopy-Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy Versus Bent Ab Interno Needle Goniectomy in Patients With Open-Angle Glaucoma
(Galenos Publ House, 2025) Ucgul, Ahmet Yucel; Ucgul, Rukiye Kilic; Aktas, Zeynep
Komplikasyonlar ve ek cerrahi gereksinimi not edildi.

Observation of Collider Neutrinos without Final State Muons with the SND at LHC Experiment
    (American Physical Society, 2025) Abbaneo, D.; Ahmad, S.; Albanese, R.; Alexandrov, A.; Alicante, F.; Androsov, K.; Zamora-Saá, J.
We report the observation of neutrino interactions without final state muons at the LHC, with a significance of 6.4σ. A dataset of proton-proton collisions at s=13.6 TeV collected by SND@LHC in 2022 and 2023 is used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 68.6 fb-1. Neutrino interactions without a reconstructed muon are selected, resulting in an event sample consisting mainly of neutral-current and electron neutrino charged-current interactions in the detector. After selection cuts, 9 neutrino interaction candidate events are observed with an estimated background of 0.32 events. © 2025 authors. Published by the American Physical Society. Fotorefraktif Keratektomi Sonrası Kullanılan Lotrafilcon A ve Senofilcon A Bandaj Kontakt Lenslerin Görme Rehabilitasyonu ve Oküler Konfora Etkisi
(Galenos Publ House, 2024) Alacamli, Goksu; Yakar, Konuralp
Ameliyat sonrası sağ göze lotrafilcon A, sol göze ise senofilcon A materyalden üretilmiş BKL uygulandı.

Randomised Comparison Between Navigation and Non-Navigation Camera Control Performance in a Surgical Simulation Task Using a Haptic Device Interface
(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2026) Cagiltay, Nergiz Ercil; Topalli, Damla; Tuner, Emre; Berker, Mustafa
Introduction:Navigation skills for controlling the camera in the surgical field are critical for many minimally invasive surgery (MIS) procedures. Currently, endoscopes lack integrated navigation aids, making camera control a challenging task. This experimental study aims to investigate the effect of navigation guidance on the performance of beginners.Patients and Methods:A custom computer-based simulation environment was developed for this study, featuring two conditions - one with navigation guidance and one without - focussed on a camera-cleaning task. Participants (64 beginners) were randomly assigned to one of these groups and used two haptic devices to simulate the endoscope and surgical tools. Results:Participants in the guided condition performed significantly better than those in the unguided condition. Notably, female participants completed the task in significantly less time under the guided condition compared to the unguided one. Conclusion:These findings suggest that incorporating navigation aids into endoscope interfaces could improve user performance, especially for beginners. Medical device manufacturers should consider adding navigation features to enhance usability. In addition, simulation-based instructional systems should integrate navigation aids to better support surgical training.
