In educational agenda, all educators in the globe have faced the obstacles of abrupt adoption of distance education learning methods. Although distance education methods have been exercised in the past decade, the usage was not common. The pandemic has brought not only the sudden transformation of education format, but also online security issues. The online exam solution in e-learning techniques, tools and adoption has been a popular topic to research. Recent literature review shows various analyzes in the field, however the outcome of the research proves that the challenges are similiar in the globe. The aim of this research is to determine the essential problems and develop solutions based on the students perception of online exams which became compulsorily transitioned during the pandemic process. The custom-made survey was conducted on 165 students to have an insight on their approach to e-learning and online exam. Descriptive statistics method is used to describe the features of the data in the study. © 2021Article Citation - WoS: 14Citation - Scopus: 14Discrete Time Series-Parallel System and Its Optimal Configuration(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2021) Dembinska, Anna; Eryilmaz, SerkanThis paper is concerned with properties of series-parallel systems when the component lifetimes have discrete failure time distribution. For a series-parallel system consisting of a specified number of subsystems, we particularly focus on the number of failed components in each subsystem at the time when the system fails. Each subsystem is assumed to have identical components while different subsystems have different types of components. Assuming all components within the system are independent, we obtain exact distributions of the number of failed components at the time when the system fails. For the special case when the components have phase-type failure time distributions, matrix-based expressions are derived for the quantities under concern. The results are used to obtain optimal configuration of the series-parallel system which is replaced at failure.Article Citation - WoS: 28Citation - Scopus: 29Functionalized Polysulfide Copolymers With 4-Vinylpyridine Via Inverse Vulcanization(Elsevier Science Bv, 2019) Berk, Hasan; Balci, Burcu; Ertan, Salih; Kaya, Murat; Cihaner, AtillaA new series of functional polysulfide copolymers called poly(sulfur-random-4-vinylpyridine) (poly(S-r-4VP)) was synthesized via inverse vulcanization technique by ring opening polymerization of elemental sulfur in the presence of 4-vinylpyridine (4VP). The corresponding copolymers can be post functionalized by using amine group in 4VP unit to get polymers bearing various properties. Elemental sulfur was heated up to 160 degrees C and 4VP was added slowly to a clear yellowish orange colored liquid at this temperature. The reaction mixture was vitrified to form a reddish-brown polymeric material at 180 degrees C in 1 h. The products were characterized by using FTIR, NMR, and Raman spectroscopic techniques. Poly(S-r-4VP) copolymers are soluble in common solvents like dichloromethane, chloroform and tetrahydrofuran. Weight-average molecular weights of poly(S-r-4VP) copolymers with different wt% 4VP were measured by using gel permeation chromatography technique. The polysulfide copolymers with different wt% 4VP have high weight-average molecular weights with polydispersity indeces (PDI) in a range from 1.88 to 4.06 measured by gel permeation chromatography. Post functionalization of the copolymer with 50 wt% 4VP as an example was performed successfully by using alkyl bromide to get N-alkyl quaternized 4VP in polymer backbone.Article Citation - WoS: 22Citation - Scopus: 21Synthesis and Thermoluminescence Properties of Rare Earth Oxides (y, Ce-Lu) Doped Lithium Triborate(Elsevier Science Bv, 2011) Depci, Tolga; Ozbayoglu, Gulhan; Yilmaz, AysenLithium triborate (LiB(3)O(5)) was synthesized by high temperature solid-state reaction method, and then rare earth oxides were doped into LiB(3)O(5) to enhance its thermoluminescent (TL) properties. The identification and characteristics of the obtained compounds were determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analyses, differential thermal analyses (DTA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The glow curves were obtained using a thermoluminescent (TL) reader. The results revealed that all the rare earth oxides were not good activators for lithium triborate and the obtained compounds could not be used for dosimetric applications.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 3Conflict resolution via emerging technologies?(Institute of Physics Publishing, 2019) Yinka-Banjo,C.; Ugot,O.-A.; Misra,S.; Adewumi,A.; Damasevicius,R.; Maskeliunas,R.This paper presents a review of the current techniques and approaches adopted in conflict resolution in Multi-Agent Systems (MAS). The review highlights the strength and weaknesses, and thus, their success in fostering cooperation and collaboration in multi-agent systems. We survey alternative approaches to conflict resolution that rely on emerging technologies such as deep learning. From the survey, we discuss the benefits of using these emerging technologies in the conflict resolution process. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 17Citation - Scopus: 23Maintenance, Sustainability and Extendibility in Virtual and Remote Laboratories(Elsevier Science Bv, 2011) Kara, Ali; Ozbek, Mehmet Efe; Cagiltay, Nergiz Ercil; Aydin, ElifThis study presents discussions on sustainability of Virtual and Remote Laboratories (VRL), and provides challenges toward maintenance of VRLs. As an undergraduate research project (the LAP program at Atilim University), the robot TozTorUs is the outcome of the dense efforts of a team. With the sensors equipped, it navigates autonomously in the environment in which it is located by avoiding the obstacles. It can understand your questions and answer them using Google's speech technologies. Although it is not a humanoid robot, with eyes and mouth simulator LED displays, it is as friendly as a human. We can also control TozTorUs using a mobile phone. Apart from these, it is able to adjust its height with respect to the visitor's, thus allowing it to make an eye contact with the person. Although TozTorUs is designed for welcoming, it may also be employed for consulting, security and elderly assistance. © 2018 IEEE.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Left Ventricular Geometry as a Predictor of Carotid Artery Stenosis Severity in Patients Undergoing Carotid Artery Stenting(Wiley, 2020) Karaduman, Bilge Duran; Ayhan, Huseyin; Keles, Telat; Bozkurt, EnginBackground and Aim Cerebrovascular diseases are the second most common cause of death worldwide. Moderate and severe carotid artery stenosis causes nearly 10% of all strokes. LV geometry is a familiar prognostic and diagnostic factor in several populations; yet, data on its role in carotid artery stenosis are unknown. In our study, we investigated the prognostic value of LV geometry in predicting carotid artery stenosis severity in patients undergoing carotid artery stenting. Methods Patients who underwent carotid artery stenting between January 2012 and January 2016 at our tertiary care center were evaluated retrospectively. Two hundred fifty-five patients who underwent carotid artery stenting were included in the study. Accessible echocardiographic documentation of ninety-eight patients was accessed and evaluated. Results LV normal geometry was detected in 37 (37.7%) of the 98 carotid artery stenting (CAS) patients, concentric hypertrophy in 13 (13.2%), eccentric hypertrophy in 9 (9.1%), and concentric remodeling in 39 (39.7%). By a majority, distal filter was used in normal geometry and eccentric hypertrophy groups (82.9% vs 100%, P: .017). Considering the relationship between carotid artery stenosis severity and LV geometry, we determined that the stenosis severity was statistically significantly higher in the concentric hypertrophy group (p:0.012). However, although no complications were detected in the concentric hypertrophy group, it did not reach statistical significance between the groups (P: .058). LVMi and as expected, Doppler velocity showed a significant correlation with stenosis severity (r = .23 vs .54; P: .021, <.001, respectively). Conclusion Echocardiographic evaluation of LV geometry provided prognostic information in the development of carotid artery stenosis. Abnormal LV geometry is an independent predictor in detecting the severity of carotid artery stenosis undergoing carotid artery stenting.Book Part Turkish-American Relations From the End of the Second World War to the Arms Embargo, 1945–1970(Bloomsbury Publishing Plc., 2022) Koç, Z.E.
