Trapping Centers and Their Distribution in Tl2ga2< Layered Single Crystals
    (Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2009) Isik, M.; Gasanly, N. M.
Thermally stimulated current (TSC) measurements with current flowing perpendicular to the layers were carried out on Tl2Ga2Se3S layered single crystals in the temperature range of 10-260K. The experimental data were analyzed by using different methods, such as curve fitting, initial rise and isothermal decay methods. The analysis revealed that there were three trapping centers with activation energies of 12, 76 and 177 meV. It was concluded that retrapping in these centers was negligible, which was confirmed by the good agreement between the experimental results and the theoretical predictions of the model that assumes slow retrapping. The capture cross section and the concentration of the traps have been also determined. An exponential distribution of electron traps was revealed from the analysis of the TSC data obtained at different light illumination temperatures. This experimental technique provided values of 10 and 88 meV/decade for the traps distribution related to two different trapping centers. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Novel Frequency-Domain Criterion for Elimination of Limit Cycles in a Class of Digital Filters With Single Saturation Nonlinearity
(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2008) Singh, Vimal
A frequency-domain criterion for the elimination of limit cycles in a class of digital filters utilizing single saturation nonlinearity is presented. The criterion is derived by exploiting the structural properties of the system under consideration in a greater detail. A novel feature of the criterion is that it takes the form of a matrix inequality, despite the fact that there is single nonlinearity in the system. An example showing the effectiveness of the criterion is given. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Hopping Conduction in Ga4se3< Layered Single Crystals
    (Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2008) Qasrawi, A. F.; Gasanly, N. M.
The conduction mechanism in Ga4Se3S single crystals has been investigated by means of dark and illuminated conductivity measurements for the first time. The temperature-dependent electrical conductivity analysis in the region of 100-350 K, revealed the dominance of the thermionic emission and the thermally assisted variable range hopping (VRH) of charged carriers above and below 170 K, respectively. The density of states near the Fermi level and the average hopping distance for this crystal in the dark were found to be 7.20 x 10(15) cm(-3) eV(-1) and 7.56 x 10(-6) cm, respectively. When the sample was illuminated, the Mott's VRH parameters are altered, particularly, the average hopping distance and the density of states near the Fermi level increase when light intensity increases. This action is attributed to the electron generation by photon absorption, which in turn leads to the Fermi level shift and/or trap density reduction by electron-hole recombination. Electrochemistry of nickel(II) complexes with N,N'-bis(3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylidene)polymethylenediamines
(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2005) Özalp-Yaman, S; Kasumov, VT; Önal, AM
The electrochemical oxidation of several N,N'-polymethylenebis(3,5-di-tert- butylsalicylaldiminato)nickel(II) complexes, Ni(L-x), has been studied by cyclic voltammetry and in situ UV-Vis spectroscopy in DMF Cyclic voltammograms of Ni(L-x) (x = 1-4) complexes displayed two-step oxidation processes under nitrogen gas atmosphere. The first oxidation peak potentials of all the Ni(II) complexes corresponds to the reversible one-electron oxidation process of the metal center, yielding Ni(III) species. EPR spectrum of the electrolysis solution was recorded after one electron transfer at liquid nitrogen temperature also confirms the formation of [Ni-III (L-3)](+) species (g(x) > g(y) > g(z)) with a (2)A(1)(d(z)(2))(1) ground state. Upon addition of pyridine to one electron oxidised solutions a new penta coordinated species, [Ni-III(L-3)Py](+) (g(perpendicular to) > g(parallel to), a(parallel to)(N-14) = 8 G), was produced. The second oxidation peak of the complexes was assigned as the ligand based oxidation, generating a coordinated phenoxy radical species. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Properties of Boron Doped Ti-Ba Superconductors
(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2003) Kayed, TS
The effects of boron doping on the formation and properties of the Tl-based superconductors have been studied. Up to 10 wt.% boron has been added to the oxides having the nominal composition, Tl1.8Ba2Ca2.2Cu3Ox, by the usual solid-state reaction method. Boron additions in the range 0.8-1.0% increase the fraction of the Tl-2223 phase and significantly improve the critical temperature of the samples. Higher amounts of boron additions eliminate the Tl-2223 phase, reduce the fraction of Tl-2212 phase and cause separate non-superconducting phases to be formed. The formation of non-superconducting phases does not allow us to obtain pure Tl-2212 phase. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Increasing Accuracy of Two-Class Pattern Recognition With Enhanced Fuzzy Functions
(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2009) Celikyilmaz, Asli; Tuerksen, I. Burhan; Aktas, Ramazan; Doganay, M. Mete; Ceylan, N. Basak
In building an approximate fuzzy classifier system, significant effort is laid oil estimation and fine tuning of fuzzy sets. However, in such systems little thought is given to the way in which membership functions are combined within fuzzy rules. In this paper, a robust method, improved fuzzy classifier functions (IFCF) design is proposed for two-class pattern recognition problems. A supervised hybrid improved fuzzy Clustering for classification (IFC-C) algorithm is implemented for structure identification. IFC-C algorithm is based oil it dual optimization method, which yields simultaneous estimates of the parameters of (c-classification functions together with fuzzy c partitioning of dataset based oil a distance measure. The merit of novel IFCF is that the information oil natural grouping of data samples i.e., the membership values, are utilized as additional predictors of each fuzzy classifier function to improve accuracy of system model. Improved fuzzy classifier functions are approximated using statistical and soft computing approaches. A new semi-non-parametric inference mechanism is implemented for reasoning. The experimental results Of the new modeling approach indicate that the new IFCF is it promising method for two-class pattern recognition problems. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

    Electrochemical Polymerization of 4-Allylanisole
(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2001) Cihaner, A; Testereci, HN; Önal, AM
Electrochemical polymerization of 3-allylanisole (4AA). via constant potential electrolysis, has been investigated in acetonitrile using two different supporting electrolytes. Redox behavior of the monomer was also studied in the same solvent-electrolyte couples at room temperature. Electrochemical polymerization of the monomer yielded insoluble polymer films on the electrode surface, which bears a very low conductivity, together with the low molecular weight polymers in the bulk of the solution. The decrease in the monomer concentration, during the electrochemical polymerization. was monitored by taking the cyclic voltammogram of the electrolysis solution. The effect of temperature on the rate of electrochemical polymerization was: also studied. The polymers were characterized by taking the H-1-NMR and FTIR spectra. Molecular weight of the soluble polymer was determined by vapor pressure osmometry. Thermal analysis of the polymer film and soluble polymer were done by DSC. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. Electropolymerization and Ion Sensitivity of Chemiluminescent Thienyl Systems
(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2009) Asil, Demet; Cihaner, Atilla; Onal, Ahmet M.
Redox driven chemiluminescent (CL) compounds based on thienyl and pyridazine systems, namely 2,3-dihydrothieno(3,4-d)pyridazine-1,4-dione (T-Lum) and 5,7-di-thiophen-2-yl-2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-d]pyridazine-1,4-dione (TTT-Lum), were synthesized. Soluble compounds both in organic media and basic aqueous solution were found to give CL and electroluminescent (EL) reactions by the treatment of oxidants (H2O2 and KMnO4) and by an external potential pulse on the working electrode, respectively. Furthermore, the CL reaction can be speeded up by Fe3+ ion or blood samples. On the other hand, one of the compounds. TTT-Lum, can be polymerized successfully via electrochemically both in 0.1 M LiClO4/acetonitrile containing 5% of borontrifluoro diethylether (BF3-Et2O) and neat BF3-Et2O solution. The corresponding polymer film (PTTT-Lum) bearing CL units has a very stable and a well-defined reversible redox couple. Also, the electrochromic polymer film has a band gap of 1.74 eV and exhibits EL behavior. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
