    The Relationship Between Different Price Indexes: a Set of Evidence From Inflation Targeting Countries

    The possible long-run relationships between the Consumer Price Index and the Wholesale Price Index are analyzed for three inflation targeting countries - Canada, Sweden and the UK - using three different statistical techniques. The Engle-Granger test finds cointegration only for Sweden. The Johansen's test and the model-free and seasonality robust periodogram based test conclusively show that the two price indexes are not cointegrated in the three countries included in the sample. Hence, the values of these indexes may consistently diverge over time. However, the two price indexes move together in the short run. These findings have some implications for the success of inflation targeting monetary policies. © 2006 - IOS Press and the authors. All rights reserved.

    A Piezoelectric Micromotor With a Stator of φ=1.6 Mm and l=4 Mm Using Bulk Pzt

    The smallest discrete piezoelectric ultrasonic motor using bulk ceramics was developed. We are proposing basically a two-part motor: stator and rotor. The stator of the present motor consists of a hollow metal brass tube with outer diameter of 1.6 mm, inner diameter of 0.8 mm and length of only 4 mm with 2 PZT plates bonded onto it. Owing to the asymmetrical stator surface, two degenerated orthogonal bending modes were slightly split, resulting in a wobbling motion. Thus, the motor can be driven by a single driving source. The rotor is a spring, which is basically different from previous designs, pressed at both ends to the stator by a pair of ferrules. Consequently, the length of the whole motor assembly was reduced significantly; a final motor length cf only 5 mm was obtained. The working frequency under zero load was approximately 227-233 kHz. Although the size is small, relatively high power was obtained under an optimized load condition: torque of 0.06mNm, maximum power of 3.2 mW with a speed of 118 rad/s, and maximum efficiency of 11% under 48 Vrms at 221 kHz.

    Elimination of Overflow Oscillations in Fixed-Point State-Space Digital Filters With Saturation Arithmetic: an Lmi Approach

    A novel, linear-matrix inequality (LMI) based, criterion for the nonexistence of overflow oscillations in fixed-point state-space digital filter employing saturation arithmetic is presented.     Electrical Properties of Bi1.5znsb1.5< Pyrochlore Ceramics

    Bi1.5ZnSb1.5O7 pyrochlore samples were prepared by solid state reaction method. They were examined by x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Single phase, belongs to the cubic pyrochlore structure, with a lattice parameter of 10.442 Angstrom and grain size that varies from 16 to 20 mum was obtained. The electrical properties were measured at different temperatures in the range 15-330 K under different applied magnetic fields up 1.4 T. In our measurements for Hall coefficient, Hall resistivity, and mobility; we noticed an anomalous behavior at two temperatures (around 250 and 310 K) which was supported by the I-V measurements (double transition of the slope of I-V characteristics (beta) at the same temperatures). This was discussed in terms of polarization phenomenon and mixed ionic-electronic conduction. (C) 2003 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.

    Electrochemistry of nickel(II) complexes with N,N'-bis(3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylidene)polymethylenediamines

    The electrochemical oxidation of several N,N'-polymethylenebis(3,5-di-tert- butylsalicylaldiminato)nickel(II) complexes, Ni(L-x), has been studied by cyclic voltammetry and in situ UV-Vis spectroscopy in DMF Cyclic voltammograms of Ni(L-x) (x = 1-4) complexes displayed two-step oxidation processes under nitrogen gas atmosphere. The first oxidation peak potentials of all the Ni(II) complexes corresponds to the reversible one-electron oxidation process of the metal center, yielding Ni(III) species. EPR spectrum of the electrolysis solution was recorded after one electron transfer at liquid nitrogen temperature also confirms the formation of [Ni-III (L-3)](+) species (g(x) > g(y) > g(z)) with a (2)A(1)(d(z)(2))(1) ground state. Upon addition of pyridine to one electron oxidised solutions a new penta coordinated species, [Ni-III(L-3)Py](+) (g(perpendicular to) > g(parallel to), a(parallel to)(N-14) = 8 G), was produced. The second oxidation peak of the complexes was assigned as the ligand based oxidation, generating a coordinated phenoxy radical species. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

    Properties of Boron Doped Ti-Ba Superconductors

    The effects of boron doping on the formation and properties of the Tl-based superconductors have been studied. Up to 10 wt.% boron has been added to the oxides having the nominal composition, Tl1.8Ba2Ca2.2Cu3Ox, by the usual solid-state reaction method. Boron additions in the range 0.8-1.0% increase the fraction of the Tl-2223 phase and significantly improve the critical temperature of the samples. Higher amounts of boron additions eliminate the Tl-2223 phase, reduce the fraction of Tl-2212 phase and cause separate non-superconducting phases to be formed. The formation of non-superconducting phases does not allow us to obtain pure Tl-2212 phase. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

    ÖZET Yüzyıllardır ticarette sıfır riskle iş yapabilmenin araçlarını geliştirme yönünde önemli ilerlemeler kaydeden finans dünyası, alternatif bir finans yöntemi olarak, kısa vadeli ticari alacakların devri esasına dayanan faktoring işlemini geliştirmiştir. Geçmişi çok eskilere dayanan faktoring, modern şekli ile 20.yüzyıl ortalarında Amerika'da yaygın bir kullanım alanı bulmuş, daha sonra da Avrupa ve Doğu Asya ülkeleri vasıtasıyla yayılmıştır. Bugünkü anlamda modern faktoring iç Pazar ağırlıklı olup, Dünya faktoring cirosunu %94'lük kısmı yurt içi faktoring işlemlerine aittir. 1980'li yılların başındaki yeniden yapılanma ve dışa açılmayla birlikte, ülkemizde ilk faktoring işlemi 1983 yılında yapılmış ve gerek iç gerekse de dış ticaretin finansmanında giderek önem kazanan.geniş bir hizmet paketini içeren, sevk sonrasına ilişkin, alternatif ve esnek bir finanssal ürün olarak Türk malı sistemi içerisindeki yerini almıştır. Faktoring, ülkemizde ilk ortaya çıkışında ihracatın finansmanı için yararlanılacak bir finansman tekniği olarak tanıtılmış ancak uygulama yaygınlaştıkça yurt içi işlemler daha baskın çıkmaya başlamıştır. Türkiye, faktoring işlem hacminin artış temposuyla, Dünyanın dikkat çeken ülkeleri arasında yer almakta olmasına rağmen, faktoring sektörünün yasal ve uygulamaya yönelik bazı sorunları bulunmakta ve faktoring'in finans sektörü içinde geniş bir uygulama alanı bulması, bu sorunların sağlıklı bir şekilde çözülebilmesine bağlı olmaktadır. iv

    Yielding of long concentric tubes under radial pressure based on von Mises criterion;

    The classical problem of a plain strain tube with free ends, subject to either internal or external pressure is extended to tightly fitted long concentric tubes with axially constrained ends. Making use of von Mises yield criterion, critical values of pressure leading to plastic flow are determined in terms of material properties and tube dimensions.

    Acoustic Phonons Scattering Mobility and Carrier Effective Mass in In6s7< Crystals

    Systematic dark electrical resistivity and Hall coefficient measurements have been carried out in the temperature range of 170-320 K on n-type In6S7 crystals. The analysis of the electrical resistivity and carrier concentration reveals the intrinsic type of conduction with an average energy band gap of similar to 0.75 eV The carrier effective masses of the conduction and valence bands were calculated from the intrinsic temperature-dependent carrier concentration data and were found to be 0.565m(0) and 2.020m(0), respectively. The temperature-dependent Hall mobility was observed to follow the mu alpha T-3/2 law and was analyzed assuming the domination of acoustic phonons scattering. The acoustic phonons scattering mobility was calculated from the crystal's structural data with no assumptions. The experimental Hall mobility data of In6S7 crystals coincides with the theoretical acoustic phonons scattering mobility data with acoustic deformation potential of 6.4 eV. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V.
