Review Citation - WoS: 1Evolution of the Relationship Between Urban Planning and Urban Infrastructure(Kare Publ, 2018) Sahin, Savas ZaferIn the face of disasters caused by climate change and ecological degradation, the future of cities has become closely interrelated with the sensitive balance between urban planning and urban infrastructure. Integrated sustainable urban planning and management approaches, where the relationship between urban planning and urban infrastructure is re-examined to manage urban risks, manage the capacity of existing infrastructure, and adapt to climate change have been discussed for a long time. Particularly in the last 2 to 3 decades, in various countries and for different reasons, urban planning and urban infrastructure investments have diverged. Under the influence of neo-liberal policies, the urban planning process has often been transformed into a mechanism of re-distributing urban rents via urban projects, and urban infrastructure investments are presented to society as mega projects to help legitimize the effects of this transformation politically. This dissociation results in an inefficient and ineffective use of resources, a negative effect on the urban ecosystem, and an urban daily life that is fragile and disrupted. The development of a framework that re-integrates planning with infrastructure is an inevitable necessity.Article Citation - Scopus: 9Multipath Exploitation in Emitter Localization for Irregular Terrains(Czech Technical University, 2019) Dalveren,Y.; Kara,A.Electronic Support Measures (ESM) systems have many operational challenges while locating radar emitter's position around irregular terrains such as islands due to multipath scattering. To overcome these challenges, this paper addresses exploiting multipath scattering in passive localization of radar emitters around irregular terrains. The idea is based on the use of multipath scattered signals as virtual sensor through Geographical Information System (GIS). In this way, it is presented that single receiver (ESM receiver) passive localization can be achieved for radar emitters. The study is initiated with estimating candidate multipath scattering centers over irregular terrain. To do this, ESM receivers' Angle of Arrival (AOA) and Time of Arrival (TOA) information are required for directly received radar pulses along with multipath scattered pulses. The problem then turns out to be multiple-sensor localization problem for which Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA)-based techniques can easily be applied. However, there is high degree of uncertainty in location of candidate multipath scattering centers as the multipath scattering involves diffuse components over irregular terrain. Apparently, this causes large localization errors in TDOA. To reduce this error, a reliability based weighting method is proposed. Simulation results regarding with a simplified 3D model are also presented. © 2019 RADIOENGINEERING.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 5Covid-19 Infection in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients: \ra Comparative Outcome Study With Patients on \rhemodialysis and Patients Without Kidney Disease(Aves, 2022) Kazancıoğlu, Rümeyza; Ozturk, Savas; Turgutalp, Kenan; Gürsu, Meltem; Arıcı, Mustafa; Oruç, Ayşegül; Ateş, KenanObjectives: There is limited data about coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) characteristics and results in peritoneal dialysis \r(PD) patients. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics and outcomes among PD patients and compare them with \rmatched hemodialysis (HD) patients and a control group without kidney disease.\rMethods: We included 18 PD patients and consecutive age- and gender-matched 18 HD and 18 patients without kidney \rdisease (control group) registered into the Turkish Society of Nephrology database including 1301 COVID-19 patients. We \rcompared demographic, clinical, radiological, laboratory data, and outcomes namely intensive care unit (ICU) admission, \rmechanical ventilation, mortality, and composite outcome (death and/or ICU admission).\rResults: ICU admission, mechanical ventilation, and mortality rates in PD patients (27.8%, 22.2%, and 22.2%, respectively) \rand the HD group (16.7%, 11.1%, and 16.7%, respectively) were higher than the control group (11.1%, 11.1%, and 5.6%, \rrespectively), but intergroup comparison did not reveal difference. A total of 11 (20.3%) patients had composite outcome \r(6 PD patients, 3 HD patients, and 2 patients in the control group). In Cox regression analysis, higher age and higher CRP level were related to increased risk of composite outcome. Adjusted rate of composite outcome in PD group was significantly higher than \rthe control group (P = .050). This rate was similar in HD and control groups (P = .30).\rConclusions: Combined in-hospital mortality and/or ICU admission of PD patients with COVID-19 was significantly higher than the control \rpatients. There is a need for careful surveillance of PD patients for infection signs and prompt treatment of COVID-19.Article Citation - WoS: 2Attitudes of Couples Towards Withdrawal Method in Birth Control(Cukurova Univ, Fac Medicine, 2019) Turk, Rukiye; Terzioglu, FusunPurpose: The aim of this study was to determine the attitudes of couples towards withdrawal method. Using a cross-cultural survey design, data were collected from 5052 students. Based on the collected data, 58.5% of the students have asynchronous distance learning classes in their universities. Access to distance learning classes is one of the problems, and it is attributed to computers, internet, and connectivity issues as well as with starting the lessons too early or late. A majority of participants (73.7%) found class materials uploaded by lecturers to distance learning systems to be sufficient or partially sufficient, and 36.7% stated that they had problems accessing resources regarding their homework. Students' satisfaction level with the distance learning system scored 4.4 out of 10. According to the evaluation regarding whether the level of satisfaction of participants varied across the type of university, the satisfaction level of students in public universities is generally low (score of 4.3 out of 10) compared to satisfaction in foundation universities (4.9 out of 10).Article Deposition and Characterization of Znsnse2 Thin-Films Deposited by Using Sintered Stoichiometric Powder(2019) Sürücü, Özge Bayraklı; Güllü, Hasan HüseyinIn this work, ZnSnSe2 (ZTSe) thin films were deposited using crystalline powder grown by vertical Bridgman-Stockbarger technique. The deposition process was carried out by means of e-beam evaporation on the well-cleaned soda lime glass substrates and keeping them at the substrate temperature of 200°C. The structural, optical and electrical properties of ternary ZTSe thin films were investigated depending on the annealing temperature at 250 and 300°C. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that as-grown films were in amorphous structure, however annealing at 250°C triggered the crystallization on the preferred ternary structure and annealing at 300°C resulted in the changes from amorphous to the polycrystalline structure. Using the compositional analysis, the detail information about the stoichiometry and the segregation mechanisms of the constituent elements in the structure were determined for both as-grown and annealed samples. In addition, they were morphologically characterized using scanning electron microscopy technique. The electrical properties were analyzed using temperature dependent dark- and photo-conductivity measurements. From the variation of electrical conductivity as a function of the ambient temperature, the current transport mechanisms and corresponding activation energies at specific temperature intervals for each sample were determined. The optical properties for the ZTSe thin films were studied depending on the structural changes with annealing.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2Protective Effect of Aerobic Exercise on the Nasal Mucosa of Rats Against the Histopathologic Changes in Cigarette Smoke Exposure(Sage Publications inc, 2020) Akkoca, Ozlem; Unlu, Ceren Ersoz; Tatar, Ilkan; Sargon, Mustafa Fevzi; Zeybek, Dilara; Oguztuzun, SerpilIntroduction: Smoking is a public health problem that has been proven to have adverse effects on human health. Aerobic exercise has positive effects on the human body, especially on the respiratory system. Objective: The aim of this experimental animal model study was to determine whether regular aerobic exercise has a protective effect against the harmful effects of cigarette smoke on the nasal mucosa of rats. Methods: A total of 24 male Wistar albino rats were randomly separated into 3 groups of 8: group 1 (cigarette smoking), group 2 (cigarette smoking and exercise), and group 3 (control group). At the end of the experiment period, histopathological (light and electron microscopy) and immunohistochemical (GSTA 1, CYP1A1, and CYP2E1) evaluations were made of the nasal mucosa of the animals. Results: Goblet cell loss and basal membrane thickening were significantly lower in group 2 and group 3 compared to group 1. In the electron microscope evaluation, the inflammatory expressions of the goblet cells were observed in a very small area in group 2. In group 1, these were distributed over large areas between the mucosal cells. There was seen to be significant swelling of the mitochondria in group 1 compared to the other groups. No statistically significant difference was determined between the groups with respect to GSTA1, CYP2E1, and CYP1A1 scores (P> .05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that regular aerobic exercise has a protective effect against the harmful effects of smoking on the nasal mucosa of rats.Conference Object Non-Invasive 3d Optical Measurement of Round Surfaces(Polish Acad Sciences inst Physics, 2019) Kurtuldu, H.; Durkaya, G.; Cetin, B.Precise measurement of wear profiles in large areas of round surfaces such as shafts, suspension bars and high-deviation geometry surfaces is a challenge in manufacturing engineering. An optical measurement method is developed to overcome this challenge. This method, relying on angular reconstruction of scattered light profiles, is used for the measurement of irregular wear in quality testing of round surfaces which provides information on estimating the surface lifetime after prolonged use. This approach achieves a 3D depth accuracy better than 50 mu m in suspension bars with diameters up to 50 mm from an imaging distance of 250 mm.
