Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2The Detailed Transseptal Puncture Technique for Optimal Closure in Patients With a Patent Foramen Ovale(Frontiers Media Sa, 2024) Ilkay, Erdogan; Saricam, Ersin; Kacmaz, Fehmi; Yakici, Aysel; Koca, Cigdem; Ozeke, Ozcan; Onal, Mehmet ZulkufBackground The closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) using transseptal puncture has particular advantages and disadvantages. Thus, transseptal puncture should be re-evaluated in detail. Aims We aimed to assess the effectiveness of the detailed transseptal puncture technique in patients who underwent PFO closure due to cryptogenic stroke or transient ischemic attack in terms of residual shunts and atrial fibrillation. Methods We prospectively analyzed 144 consecutive patients who underwent PFO closure by the detailed transseptal puncture technique between February 2013 and April 2023 in two centers. All of the patients had a >10 mm long-tunnel PFO. Results The procedural success rate was 100%. However, after the procedure, moderate pericardial effusion developed in one patient (0.7%) and an acute pulmonary embolism related to femoral vein thrombosis was observed in one patient (0.7%) during the first month. Complications related to the procedure were noted in two patients (1.4%) during the first month of follow-up. Residual shunts were observed in 1.4% of cases after PFO closure. Conclusion We demonstrated that the detailed transseptal technique is safe and effective for PFO closure. The detailed transseptal PFO closure technique significantly reduced the risk of atrial fibrillation, and the occurrence of residual shunts was significantly low following the closure.Article Makroekonomik ve Sosyo-Politik Endeks Nitelikli Çalışan başına Reel GSYH’yi Nasıl Etkiler? Conducting reliability tests under actual use conditions may require therefore impractically long experimental times to gather sufficient data for developing accurate inference. To address this, Accelerated Life Tests (ALTs) are often used in industrial experiments to induce product degradation and eventual failure more quickly by increasing certain environmental stress factors. Data collected under such increased stress conditions are analyzed, and results are then extrapolated to normal operating conditions. These tests typically involve a small number of devices and so pose significant challenges, such as interval-censoring. As a result, the outcomes are particularly sensitive to outliers in the data. Additionally, a comprehensive analysis requires more than just point estimation; inferential methods such as confidence intervals and hypothesis testing are essential to fully assess the reliability behaviour of the product. This paper presents robust statistical methods based on minimum divergence estimators for analyzing ALT data of highly reliable devices under step-stress conditions and Gamma lifetime distributions. Robust test statistics generalizing the Rao test and divergence-based tests for testing linear null hypothesis are then developed. These hypotheses include in particular tests for the significance of the identified stress factors and for the validity of the assumption of exponential lifetimes.Article W-Band RCS Prediction of Small Objects: Comparing Two Widely Used Methods with Experimental Validation(Gazi University, 2025) Kara, Ali; Aydın, Elif; Yardım, Funda Ergün; Sezgin, Deniz; Ergun Yardim, FundaThis paper compares the accuracy of Shooting and Bouncing Rays and Electric Field Integral Equation methods for Radar Cross Section prediction of small objects at 77-81 GHz band. Existing studies on RCS prediction methods often lack comprehensive comparisons between computational and experimental results, particularly for small objects measured with a 77 GHz radar. This study addresses this gap by presenting an in-depth analysis of both simulation and measurement data. In this work, three targets with varying geometries and materials were measured with a frequency modulated continuous wave radar and simulated using Ansys HFSS and CST Studio Suite. The measurements were performed with a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) frequency modulated continuous wave radar operating at 77–81 GHz. This study aims to emphasize the importance of considering both efficiency and accuracy when opting for an RCS prediction method. Overall, the outcomes of both methods have largely demonstrated good alignment. It has been noted that, while Shooting and Bouncing Rays method offers promising time-saving advantages, Electric Field Integral Equation method remains a valuable tool for complex geometries where precise results are crucial.Book Non-Discrimination in Turkey(Springer International Publishing, 2022) Yilmaz,G.The book “Non-discrimination in Turkey” focuses on issue areas within the broader non-discrimination framework in Turkey. We previously reported lipid made endocannabinoid (eCB) ligands act on the human bone marrow (hBM) HSC migration in vitro, lacking long term stability to be therapeutic candidate. In this study, we hypothesized if a novel 2-AG-loaded polycaprolactone (PCL)-based nanoparticle delivery system that actively targets BM via phosphatidylserine (Ps) can be generated and validated.MethodsPCL nanoparticles were prepared by using the emulsion evaporation method and characterized by Zetasizer and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The encapsulation efficiency and release profile of 2-AG were determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The presence of cannabinoid receptors (CBRs) in HSCs and monocytes was detected by flow cytometry. Cell morphology and viability were assessed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), SEM, and the WST-1 viability assay. The migration efficacy of the 2-AG and 2-AG-loaded nanoparticle delivery system on HSCs and HPSCs (TF-1a and TF-1) and monocytes (THP-1) was evaluated using a transwell migration assay.ResultsThe 140-225 nm PCL nanoparticles exhibited an increasing polydispersity index (PDI) after the addition of Ps and 2-AG, with a surface charge ranging from - 25 to -50 mV. The nanoparticles released up to 36% of 2-AG within the first 8 h. The 2-AG-Ps-PCL did not affect cellular viability compared to control on days 5 and 10. The HSCs and monocytes expressed CB1R and CB2R and revealed increased migration to media containing 1 mu M 2-AG-Ps-PCL compared to control. The migration rate of the HSCs toward monocytes incubated with 1 mu M 2-AG-Ps-PCL was higher than that of the monocytes of control. The 2-AG-Ps-PCL formulation provided a real time mobilization efficacy at 1 mu M dose and 8 h time window via a specific CBR agonism.ConclusionThe newly generated and validated 2-AG-loaded PCL nanoparticle delivery system can serve as a stable, long lasting, targeted mobilization agent for HSCs and as a candidate therapeutic to be included in HSC transplantation (HSCT) protocols following scale-up in vivo preclinical and subsequent clinical trials.Article Classification of Resilience of Turkish Health System to Extraordinary Health Crises at Provincial Level(2025) Bulut, TevfikThis study aimed to classify the provincial-level resilience of the Turkish health system using K-Means and Partitioning Around Medoids (PAM) clustering methods, utilizing data from the Ministry of Health's 2022 Health Statistics Yearbook. Prior to clustering analysis, the 15 variables used to assess health system resilience were reduced to 9 through Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Clustering analyses were subsequently performed on these remaining variables using the PAM and K-Means methods. The health systems of 81 provinces were classified into 3 distinct clusters based on their resilience. The PAM method was found to yield more optimal results compared to the K-Means method. According to the PAM method, provinces assigned to Cluster 3 demonstrated superior health system resilience compared to those in the other clusters. Based on the average values of the variables, the clusters were ranked in descending order of resilience: Cluster 3, Cluster 2, and Cluster 1. Significant disparities were observed both between and within clusters, primarily attributed to the uneven distribution of resources relative to population. Therefore, it is recommended that health system capacity be strengthened, using the highest-performing cluster as a benchmark. This approach can facilitate the construction of a more resilient and equitable provincial health system regarding service delivery supply, ultimately contributing to the establishment of a stronger national health system built upon strengthened provincial foundations.Article Creating a Distinctive “other”: the Perception of Turks as Asiatic or Mongol in U.s. Mainstream Media During the Cold War(2024) Koç, Zeynep ElifThis article explores how Turks were portrayed as descendants of Asiatic or Mongolian heritage in American mainstream media during the Cold War era. It begins by discussing the broader Western view of Turks as historically Asiatic and nomadic people, then delves into how American print publications, including news outlets and magazines, contributed to this perception. Generally, in the West, Turks were often imagined as Asiatic nomads, a characterization that was also linked to notions of barbarism and violence. In the U.S., there was a tendency to depict Turks as fierce and combative, aligning with the broader trend of portraying them as violent. However, there were instances where Turks were praised, particularly in contexts such as their significant contributions during the Korean War as part of the Southern effort which saw Turkish and Western interests align. Through analysis, this study concludes that Turks in American media were often depicted as Asiatic or Mongolian along four main themes: as formidable warriors, racially Asiatic, geographically Asiatic, and as part of Eastern/Asiatic civilization (by contrasting them with Western civilization). The article concludes that the U.S. largely followed the European trend of viewing Turks as part of Asiatic civilization and descent.Review Citation - WoS: 75Citation - Scopus: 122Hybrid Blockchain Platforms for the Internet of Things (iot): a Systematic Literature Review(Mdpi, 2022) Alkhateeb, Ahmed; Catal, Cagatay; Kar, Gorkem; Mishra, AlokIn recent years, research into blockchain technology and the Internet of Things (IoT) has grown rapidly due to an increase in media coverage. Many different blockchain applications and platforms have been developed for different purposes, such as food safety monitoring, cryptocurrency exchange, and secure medical data sharing. However, blockchain platforms cannot store all the generated data. Therefore, they are supported with data warehouses, which in turn is called a hybrid blockchain platform. While several systems have been developed based on this idea, a current state-of-the-art systematic overview on the use of hybrid blockchain platforms is lacking. Therefore, a systematic literature review (SLR) study has been carried out by us to investigate the motivations for adopting them, the domains at which they were used, the adopted technologies that made this integration effective, and, finally, the challenges and possible solutions. This study shows that security, transparency, and efficiency are the top three motivations for adopting these platforms. The energy, agriculture, health, construction, manufacturing, and supply chain domains are the top domains. The most adopted technologies are cloud computing, fog computing, telecommunications, and edge computing. While there are several benefits of using hybrid blockchains, there are also several challenges reported in this study.
