    On the Lupas q-analogue of the Bernstein Operator

    Let R-n(f,q;x) : C[0, 1] -> C[0, 1] be q-analogues of the Bernstein operators defined by Lupas in 1987. If q = 1, then R-n (f, 1; x) are classical Bernstein polynomials. For q not equal 1, the operators R-n (f, q; x) are rational functions rather than polynomials. The paper deals with convergence properties of the sequence {R-n (f, q; x)}. It is proved that {R-n (f, q(n); x)} converges uniformly to f(x) for any f(x) is an element of C[0, 1] if and only if q(n) -> 1. In the case q > 0, q not equal 1 being fixed the sequence I R. (f, q; x) I converges uniformly to f(x) is an element of C[0, 1] if and only if f(x) is linear.

    How Analytic Properties of Functions Influence Their Images Under the Limit q-Stancu Operator

    In the study of various q-versions of the Bernstein polynomials, a significant attention is paid to their limit operators. The present work focuses on the impact of the limit q-Stancu operator Sq infinity,alpha on the analytic properties of functions when 0 < q < 1 and alpha > 0. It is shown that for every f is an element of C[0, 1], the function S-q,(alpha infinity)fadmits an analytic continuation into the disk {z : z+alpha/(1-q) < 1+ alpha/(1-q)}. In addition, it is proved that the more derivatives f has at x = 1, the wider this disk becomes. Further, if f is infinitely differentiable at x = 1, then the function S-q,(alpha infinity)fis entire. Finally, some growth estimates for (S-q,(alpha infinity)f)(z) are obtained.

    The Continuity in Q of the Lupaş Q-Analogues of the Bernstein Operators

    The Lupas q-analogue Rn,q of the Bernstein operator is the first known q-version of the Bernstein polynomials. It had been proposed by A. Lupas in 1987, but gained the popularity only 20 years later, when q-analogues of classical operators pertinent to the approximation theory became an area of intensive research. In this work, the continuity of operators Rn,q with respect to parameter q in the strong operator topology and in the uniform operator topology has been investigated.     Organizational Issues in Embracing Agile Methods: an Empirical Assessment

    This study provides empirical evidence to the body of knowledge in Agile methods adoption in small, medium and large organizations in international context. This research explores the factors involved in the adoption of Agile methods in software development organizations. A survey was conducted among Agile professionals to gather survey data from 52 software organizations in seven countries across the world. Statistical techniques are applied towards empirical assessment. Organizational culture, team structure and management support are found to be crucial success factors whereas lack of management support, a large organization size and traditional organizational culture are found to be detrimental for the adoption of Agile approach in an organization. The selection of an appropriate Agile method depends on the project size and, for each size, there are specific methods preferred by different enterprises. Providing better control over the work is viewed as the primary advantage of the Agile methods within large and small organizations, while for the medium-size organizations, the priority is switched to coping with changing user requirements. Majority of the respondents did not consider embracing agile methods as a reason for project failure which indicates that Agile methods are, indeed, beneficial.

    On the Moment-Determinacy of Power Lindley Distribution and Some Applications To Software Metrics

    The Lindley distribution and its numerous generalizations are widely used in statistical and engineering practice. Recently, a power transformation of Lindley distribution, called the power Lindley distribution, has been introduced by M. E. Ghitany et at who initiated the investigation of its properties and possible applications. In this article, new results on the power Lindley distribution are presented. The focus of this work is on the moment-(in)determinacy of the distribution for various values of the parameters. Afterwards, certain applications are provided to describe data sets of software metrics.

    Personal Response Systems Through the Prism of Students' Experiences

    Personal response systems (PRSs) today offer an opportunity to the field of education in terms of improving teaching and learning outcomes through active engagement in classrooms. The present paper investigates students' attitudes to different types of PRSs, namely, Socrative and Clickers. Both qualitative and quantitative data are gathered and classified. The performed thematic analysis reveals major categories within the framework of this study, namely educational efficacy, psychological aspects, technology-related issues, and administrative issues. It has been found that Socrative fares better in the "educational efficacy" and "administrative issues," whereas Clickers outperforms Socrative in the "technological-related issues." It is worth pointing out that both Socrative and Clickers are tantamount in "psychological aspects" yielding no negative experiences. The results of this study reveal that two main factors, cost and technological infrastructure, are determinative in the incorporation and appreciation of such systems in an educational setting.

    Assessing Team Work in Engineering Projects

    Team work is considered a valuable teaching technique in higher education. However, the assessment of an individual's work in teams has proved to be a challenging task. Consequently, self-and peer-evaluations are becoming increasingly popular for the assessment of individuals in a team work, though it is essential to determine whether students can judge their own as well as their peer's performance effectively. Self-and peer-evaluations have been applied in different disciplines and their authenticity with regard to teacher's assessment has been evaluated in the literature but this issue has not been investigated in the field of engineering education so far. In this study, a peer-and self-assessment procedure is applied to the evaluation of a project work conducted in teams of 3 or 4 students. The participants were engineering students taking two similar courses related with database design and development. It is found that a majority of the students were unable to assess themselves as objectively as their instructor. Further, it is observed that successful students tend to under-estimate, whereas unsuccessful students tend to over-estimate, their own performance. The paper also establishes that the results of self-assessments are independent from the gender factor.

    On the q-bernstein Polynomials of Piecewise Linear Functions in the Case q > 1

    The aim of this paper is to present new results related to the approximation of continuous functions by their q-Bernstein polynomials in the case q > 1. The first part of the paper is devoted to the behavior of the q-Bernstein polynomials of piecewise linear functions. This study naturally leads to the notion of truncated q-Bernstein polynomials introduced in the paper. The second part deals with the asymptotic estimates for the norms of the m-truncated q-Bernstein polynomials, in the case where both n and q vary.     On Relations Between Transportation Cost Spaces and l1<

    The present paper deals with some structural properties of transportation cost spaces, also known as Arens-Eells spaces, Lipschitz-free spaces and Wasserstein spaces. The main results of this work are: (1) A necessary and sufficient condition on an infinite metric space M, under which the transportation cost space on M contains an isometric copy of l(1). The obtained condition is applied to answer the open questions asked by Cuth and Johanis (2017) concerning several specific metric spaces. (2) The description of the transportation cost space of a weighted finite graph G as the quotient l(1) (E(G))/Z(G), where E(G) is the edge set and Z(G) is the cycle space of G. (C) 2020 Elsevier Inc.     On the Lupas q-transform of Unbounded Functions

    The Lupa , s q-transform comes out naturally in the study of the Lupa , s q-analogue of the Bernstein operator. It is closely related to the Heine q-distribution which has a numerous application in q-boson operator calculus and to the Valiron method of summation for divergent series. In this paper, the Lupa , s q-transform (lambda(q)f)(z), q is an element of (0, 1), of unbounded functions is considered in distinction to the previous researches, where only the case f is an element of C[0, 1] have been investigated. First, the condition for a function to possess the Lupa , s q-transform is presented. Also, results concerning the connection between growth rate of the function f (t) as t -> 1(-) and the growth of its Lupa , s q-transform (lambda(q)f)(z) as z -> infinity are established.
