The purpose of this study is to identify hether students at Turkish universities are having difficulties in the distance learning process and to reveal their opinions regarding the system. Using a cross-cultural survey design, data were collected from 5052 students. Based on the collected data, 58.5% of the students have asynchronous distance learning classes in their universities. Access to distance learning classes is one of the problems, and it is attributed to computers, internet, and connectivity issues as well as with starting the lessons too early or late. A majority of participants (73.7%) found class materials uploaded by lecturers to distance learning systems to be sufficient or partially sufficient, and 36.7% stated that they had problems accessing resources regarding their homework. Students' satisfaction level with the distance learning system scored 4.4 out of 10. According to the evaluation regarding whether the level of satisfaction of participants varied across the type of university, the satisfaction level of students in public universities is generally low (score of 4.3 out of 10) compared to satisfaction in foundation universities (4.9 out of 10).

Analyzing the Criteria Affecting Transition To Airplane by Comparing Different Methods
(Mehmet Akif Ersoy Univ, 2022) Reyhanoglu, Izay; Tengilimoglu, Dilaver
This study, using the multi-vehicle approach, discusses the criteria affecting the transition from alternative transportation modes (car, train, bus) to air transportation between city pairs that neither have a hub status nor non-stop flights between them. If these criteria change, the demand for air transportation will increase. For this purpose, a survey was conducted in the provinces of Kayseri and Bursa, which are among the important trade, industry, and tourism centers in Turkey, in the course of three months between January and March, 2018. Logistic regression, the artificial neural network model, and clustering analyses were applied to the data compiled from questionnaires responded to by 501 individuals in Kayseri and 453 individuals in Bursa. According to the empirical findings, it was concluded that the most significant criteria in the transition to air transportation according to all three methods are the cost of travel/ticket price and non-stop flight. Additionally, it was observed that the Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) model made more accurate predictions compared to others. This study is important since it compares three different methods for the purpose of criteria determination concerning the choice of transportation modes.

Mapping the Literature on Thermal Tourism: A Bibliometric and Content Analysis
(Conscientia Beam, 2025) Alqaifi, Faten; Tengilimoglu, Dilaver; Aras, Ilknur Arslan
This study explores and maps the existing literature on thermal tourism to provide comprehensive insights and inform future research directions. The research design is based on a bibliometric analysis of 48 documents published between 2013 and 2023 and indexed in the Web of Science database. Data were processed and visualized using Microsoft Excel and Bibliometrix, followed by a content analysis of 42 English-language articles to capture thematic developments in the field. The findings indicate that, despite a temporary decline during the COVID-19 pandemic, publications on thermal tourism have shown strong growth and recovery, with an annual growth rate of 46.65%. The most significant contributions originated from Portugal, China, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, and Japan, with research disseminated across 37 journals. Four central themes were identified: (1) tourist behaviors and satisfaction, (2) demand and motivations, (3) quality and resource management, and (4) strategic and sustainable development. Among these, tourist behaviors and satisfaction emerged as the most prominent research area, representing 38.10% of the analyzed literature. This paper addresses a gap in the literature by mapping the knowledge landscape in the relatively underexplored field of thermal tourism, highlighting its growth potential and proposing a future research agenda. The practical implications suggest that recognizing these trends and themes can help policymakers, industry stakeholders, and academics develop strategies to enhance sustainable practices and expand opportunities in thermal tourism.

Convergence of Economic Growth and Health Expenditures in Oecd Countries: Evidence From Non-Linear Unit Root Tests
(Frontiers Media Sa, 2023) Celik, Esref Ugur; Omay, Tolga; Tengilimoglu, Dilaver
IntroductionThe relationship between human capital, health spending, and economic growth is frequently neglected in the literature. However, one of the main determinants of human capital is health expenditures, where human capital is one of the driving forces of growth. Consequently, health expenditures affect growth through this link. MethodsIn the study, these findings have been attempted to be empirically tested. Along this axis, health expenditure per qualified worker was chosen as an indicator of health expenditure, and output per qualified worker was chosen as an indicator of economic growth. The variables were treated with the convergence hypothesis. Due to the non-linear nature of the variables, the convergence hypothesis was carried out with non-linear unit root tests. ResultsThe analysis of 22 OECD countries from 1976 to 2020 showed that health expenditure converged for all countries, and there was a significant degree of growth convergence (except for two countries). These findings show that health expenditure convergence has significantly contributed to growth convergence. DiscussionPolicymakers should consider the inclusiveness and effectiveness of health policies while making their economic policies, as health expenditure convergence can significantly impact growth convergence. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms behind this relationship and identify specific health policies most effective in promoting economic growth.

(Sage Publications inc, 2022) Isik, Oguz; Tengilimoglu, Dilaver; Tosun, Nurperihan; Zekioglu, Aysu; Tengilimoglu, Onur
This study aimed to determine the depression, anxiety and stress levels that have negatively impacted nurses' mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. A sample group of 826 nurses working in Turkey were asked to fill in an online questionnaire in order to evaluate their psychological responses and the related factors that have adversely affected their mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, 696 nurses (84.3%) showed symptoms of depression, 644 (78%) reported anxiety and 543 (65.74%) reported stress. This study also highlighted that the most concerning factor for the nurses was the risk of transmitting the COVID-19 infection to their household members (89.2%). The most important problems faced by the nurses during COVID-19 included equipment shortages (50.7%), administrative problems (38.5%) and issues such as accommodation and nutrition (27.4%). These were found to have a statistically significant correlation with the nurses' levels of depression, anxiety and stress. The fear of losing a household member, the inability to their household's social needs and the fear of death were among the factors that concerned nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic, significantly affecting their levels of depression, anxiety and stress. Taking the necessary measures to deal with the aforementioned problems and fears is important to protect the health, productivity and efficiency of nurses during the pandemic period.

Evaluating the Financial Performances of the Publicly Held Healthcare Companies in Crisis Periods in Türkiye
(Mdpi, 2023) Tengilimoglu, Dilaver; Tumer, Tolga; Bennett, Russell L.; Younis, Mustafa Z.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the financial performances of the publicly held healthcare companies in crisis periods in Turkiye. The 2018 economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic crisis were included in the study as the crisis periods. We collected the financial data of the publicly held healthcare companies and calculated three liquidity, three turnover, three leverage and three profitability ratios through ratio analysis to use as financial performance indicators. We then conducted Wilcoxon signed-rank tests and we performed separate analyses for the 2018 economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The results of the analyses showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the publicly held healthcare companies' liquidity, turnover, leverage, profitability ratios and thus their financial performances before the crises and after the crises. While the results are reassuring and give valuable insights to managers and policy makers to determine the areas that needs to be strengthened to be better prepared for possible future crises, our sample was limited. Therefore, this study presents an exploratory foundation for future studies which are needed to make a case for financial stability for the publicly held healthcare companies before and after the crisis periods.
