    Maintaining Software Through Bit-Parallelism and Hashing the Parameterized q-grams

    In the software maintenance, it is often required to find duplicity present in the codes. Two code fragments are equivalent, if one can be transformed into the other via consistent renaming of identifiers, literals and variables. This equivalency can be detected by parameterized string matching. In this matching, a given pattern is said to match with a substring of the text, if there exists a one-to-one correspondence between symbols of and symbols of. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm for this problem by using both the overlapping and non-overlapping q-gram. We show the effect of running time of the algorithm on increasing the duplicity present in the code.

    Potential of Support-Vector Regression for Forecasting Stream Flow

    Stream flow is an important input for hydrology studies because it determines the water variability and magnitude of a river. Water resources engineering always deals with historical data and tries to estimate the forecasting records in order to give a better prediction for any water resources applications, such as designing the water potential of hydroelectric dams, estimating low flow, and maintaining the water supply. This paper presents three soft-computing approaches for dealing with these issues, i.e. artificial neural networks (ANNs), adaptive-neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFISs), and support vector machines (SVMs). Telom River, located in the Cameron Highlands district of Pahang, Malaysia, was used in making the estimation. The Telom River's daily mean discharge records, such as rainfall and river-level data, were used for the period of March 1984-January 2013 for training, testing, and validating the selected models. The SVM approach provided better results than ANFIS and ANNs in estimating the daily mean fluctuation of the stream's flow.

    Erp System Implementation in Fmcg Sector

    Today's businesses have become extremely complex. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems can help enterprises to reduce operating costs, generate more accurate forecasts of demand, accelerate production cycles and enhance customer service. This paper reports challenges, opportunities and outcome of ERP implementation in a top Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) house in South-East Asia with diversified interests in varied businesses. This study will facilitate the understanding of the transition, constraints and implementation of ERP in this sector and also provide guidelines from lessons learned in this regard to researchers and practising managers.

    A DISCUSSION ON ASSURING SOFTWARE QUALITY IN SMALL AND MEDIUM SOFTWARE ENTERPRISES: AN EMPIRICAL INVESTIGATION

    Under the studies of general core activities including software inspection, review and testing to achieve quality objectives in small-medium size enterprises (SMEs), the paper presents a contemporary view of such companies against quality measures. The results from a local empirical investigation of quality standards in the Turkish software industry are reported. Around 150 software companies have been approached from which 17 detailed feedback inform that in order to ensure software quality, standards including internationally recognized International Standards Organization (ISO) and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) are given credit. However the substantial workload and resources required to obtain them are also reported as serious; downscaled frameworks of such large models proposed in the literature are not well known by the SMEs either. The paper also discusses "work around" that bypasses such standards to ease delivery of products while keeping certificates as labels just to acquire new jobs for the business.

    A Model Proposal To Optimize Bandwidth Usage in Multi-Access Wireless Networks

    Distribution of load among multiple access points, and therefore, optimizing the total throughput is one of the problems of wireless local area networks when there is more than one access point available in the network. It is not easy to balance the load when wireless hosts associate with one access point by using only the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI). In this study, a new model which increases total throughput in a wireless local area network is proposed. The proposed model is mainly based on the prediction of the loads of all the available access points checking both their wireless and Ethernet interfaces and the association to the least loaded one. It is a host-based model and does not require any changes on the network infrastructure. The tests performed on the real wireless local area networks prove the applicability of the proposed model.

    A Discussion on the Role of People in Global Software Development

    Literature is producing a considerable amount of papers which focus on the risks, challenges and solutions of global software development (GSD). However, the influence of human factors on the success of GSD projects requires further study. The aim of our paper is twofold. First, to identify the challenges related to the human factors in GSD and, second, to propose the solution(s), which could help in solving or reducing the overall impact of these challenges. The main conclusions of this research can be valuable to organizations that are willing to achieve the quality objectives regarding GSD projects.

    A Comparative Study of Agile, Component-Based, Aspect-Oriented and Mashup Software Development Methods

    This paper compares Agile Methods, Component-Based Software Engineering (CBSE), Aspect-Oriented Software Development (AOSD) and Mashups as the four most advanced software development methods. These different approaches depend almost totally on their application domain but their usability can be equally applied across domains. The purpose of this comparative analysis is to give a succinct and clear review of these four methodologies. Their definitions, characteristics, advantages and disadvantages are considered and a conceptual mind-map is generated that sets out a foundation to assist in the formulation and design of a possible new integrated software development approach. This includes supportive techniques to benefit from the examined methods' potential advantages for cross-fertilization. It is a basis upon which new thinking may be initiated and further research stimulated in the software engineering subject field.

    A Rule Based Prosody Model for Turkish Text-To Synthesis

    This paper presents our novel prosody model in a Turkish text-to-speech synthesis (TTS) system. After developing a TTS system driven by parametric features consisting of duration, pitch and energy modifications, we try to figure out some prosody rules in order to increase the naturalness of our synthesizer. Since the inflected verbs in Turkish can be stand-alone sentences with the suffixes they take, we build a perceptual prosody model by defining rules on the stress patterns of verb inflections. Affirmative, negative and interrogative (both positive and negative) forms of many verbs were examined in a systematic way. Not only verbs, but in the same way, some phrases were examined for obtaining a proper prosody. According to the results of listening tests, the defined rules based on duration, pitch and energy modification weights, result in perceptually better speech synthesis, namely about 1,78/5,0 improvement in average in the CMOS (Comparative Mean Opinion Score) test. This improvement shows the success of our novel prosody model.

    Selection of Academic Staff Using the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (fahp): a Pilot Study

    Evaluating candidates' suitability for a selection of academic staff is an important tool for Human Resources Management (HRM) to select the most suitable candidates for required posts. There are various methods regarding the selection of staff in the field. As there are increasing improvements in the field of education, universities around the world demand high quality and professional academic staffs. The present paper examines a fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) for selecting the most suitable academic staff, where five candidates under ten different sub-criteria are evaluated and prioritised. The FAHP method adopted here uses Triangular Fuzzy Numbers (TFN). The inability of AHP to deal with the impression and subjectiveness in the pair-wise comparison process has been improved in the FAHP. Instead of a crisp value, the FAHP generates a range of values to incorporate the decision-makers uncertainty. Also, a real case study is presented.

    Neural Network Based Estimation of Resonant Frequency of an Equilateral Triangular Microstrip Patch Antenna

    This study proposes an artificial neural network (ANN) model in order to approximate the resonant frequencies of equilateral triangular patch antennas. The neural network structure applied here is trained and tested for both single-layer and double-layer antennas. It is shown upon experiment that the resonant frequencies obtained from the neural network are both more accurate than the calculated frequencies by formula and satisfactorily close to the measured frequencies. Results appear to be promising as per the available literature. This paper also may offer more efficient approach to developing antennas of such nature. While the total absolute error of 7 MHz and the average error of 0,09 % are achieved for single-layer antenna, the total absolute and average errors are 49 MHz and 0,07 % for the double-layered antenna, respectively.
