    Structure of the Ξb< Resonance

    We explore the recently observed Xi(b)(6227)(-) resonance to fix its quantum numbers. To this end, we consider various possible scenarios: It can be considered as either a 1P or 2S excitation of the Xi(b) and Xi'(b)(5935) ground-state baryons with spin-1/2 or the 1P or 2S excitation of the ground-state Xi(b)(5955) with spin-3/2. We calculate the masses of the possible angular-orbital 1P and 2S excited states corresponding to each channel employing the QCD sum rule technique. It is seen that all the obtained masses are in agreement with the experimentally observed value, implying that the mass calculations are not enough to determine the quantum numbers of the state under question. Therefore, we extend the analysis to investigate the possible decays of the excited states into Lambda K-b(0)- and Xi(-)(b) pi. Using the light cone QCD sum rule method, we calculate the corresponding strong coupling constants, which are used to extract the decay widths of the modes under consideration. Our results on decay widths indicate that the Xi(b)(6227)(-) is a 1P angular-orbital excited state of the Xi(b)(5955) baryon with quantum numbers J(P) = 3/2(-).

    A 1.6-Mm, Metal Tube Ultrasonic Motor

    A miniaturized metal tube ultrasonic motor, the dimensions of which are 1.6 mm in diameter and 6 rum in length, was developed. Two flattened surfaces with 90-degrees were ground on the outer surface of the stator. Two PZT-based piezoelectric ceramics were bonded onto these flat surfaces. The asymmetrical surface of the stator developed the split of the two degenerated orthogonal bending modes, resulting in a wobble motion. The working frequency of the 1.6-mm motor with 6 mm in length was 130 kHz. A torque of 0.5 mNm was reached at a maximum power of 45 mW with a speed of 45 rad/sec. The maximum efficiency was 16%.

    A New Method To Determine the Continuous Refractive Index of an Absorbing Film by Generalized Stockwell Transform

    Generalized Stockwell Transform (GST) was adapted to analyze a transmittance signal to continuously determine the refractive index and extinction coefficient. The process is built by analyzing oscillation frequencies of the transmission signal where oscillations exist. The simulation studies clearly show the advantage of the locally referenced phase property of the presented method. The validity of the method was checked for a CdS thin film. The results determined by the GST method are consistent with the results determined by envelope and other signal analyzing methods, and the literature. The noise and relative error analysis of the method was also discussed.

    Mesenchymal Stem Cells Promote Spermatogonial Stem/Progenitor Cell Pool and Spermatogenesis in Neonatal Mice in Vitro

    Prepubertal cancer treatment leads to irreversible infertility in half of the male patients. Current in vitro spermatogenesis protocols and cryopreservation techniques are inadequate to expand spermatogonial stem/progenitor cells (SSPC) from testicles. Bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSC) bearing a close resemblance to Sertoli cells, improved spermatogenesis in animal models. We asked if a co-culture setup supported by syngeneic BM-MSC that contributes to the air-liquid interphase (ALI) could lead to survival, expansion and differentiation of SSPCs in vitro. We generated an ALI platform able to provide a real-time cellular paracrine contribution consisting of syngeneic BM-MSCs to neonatal C57BL/6 mice testes. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of this culture system on SSPC pool expansion and spermatogenesis throughout a complete spermatogenic cycle by measuring the number of total germ cells (GC), the undifferentiated and differentiating spermatogonia, the spermatocytes and the spermatids. Furthermore, we evaluated the testicular cell cycle phases, the tubular and luminal areas using histochemical, immunohistochemical and flow cytometric techniques. Cultures in present of BM-MSCs displayed survival of ID4(+) spermatogonial stem cells (SSC), expansion of SALL4(+) and OCT4(+) SSPCs, VASA(+) total GCs and Ki67(+) proliferative cells at 42 days and an increased number of SCP3(+) spermatocytes and Acrosin(+) spermatids at 28 days. BM-MSCs increased the percentage of mitotic cells within the G2-M phase of the total testicular cell cycle increased for 7 days, preserved the cell viability for 42 days and induced testicular maturation by enlargement of the tubular and luminal area for 42 days in comparison to the control. The percentage of PLZF(+) SSPCs increased within the first 28 days of culture, after which the pool started to get smaller while the number of spermatocytes and spermatids increased simultaneously. Our findings established the efficacy of syngeneic BM-MSCs on the survival and expansion of the SSPC pool and differentiation of spermatogonia to round spermatids during in vitro culture of prepubertal mice testes for 42 days. This method may be helpful in providing alternative cures for male fertility by supporting in vitro differentiated spermatids that can be used for round spermatid injection (ROSI) to female oocyte in animal models. These findings can be further exploited for personalized cellular therapy strategies to cure male infertility of prepubertal cancer survivors in clinics.

    Recommendations for Head and Neck Surgical Oncology Practice in a Setting of Acute Severe Resource Constraint During the Covid-19 Pandemic: an International Consensus

    The speed and scale of the global COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in unprecedented pressures on health services worldwide, requiring new methods of service delivery during the health crisis. In the setting of severe resource constraint and high risk of infection to patients and clinicians, there is an urgent need to identify consensus statements on head and neck surgical oncology practice. We completed a modified Delphi consensus process of three rounds with 40 international experts in head and neck cancer surgical, radiation, and medical oncology, representing 35 international professional societies and national clinical trial groups. Endorsed by 39 societies and professional bodies, these consensus practice recommendations aim to decrease inconsistency of practice, reduce uncertainty in care, and provide reassurance for clinicians worldwide for head and neck surgical oncology in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and in the setting of acute severe resource constraint and high risk of infection to patients and staff.

    Understanding the Effect of Handedness on Both-Handed Task Performance: an Experimental Study Based on a Haptic-Controlled, Simulation-Based Surgical Skill Training Scenario

    Understanding the performance on both-handed tasks, such as endoscopic surgery, is critical to better organize and develop appropriate instructional systems to improve the necessary skills of surgeons. However, in the literature, only a limited number of studies have investigated the effect of handedness on both-handed task performance. This study aimed to provide an understanding of the participants' performance differences while performing both-handed tasks through a haptic user interface in a simulated virtual environment specifically developed for surgical training purposes. Twenty-four surgeons attending a medical school in Turkey voluntarily participated in the study. The duration, accuracy, and collision measures were automatically recorded by software. The results revealed that the left-handed participants performed the both-handed tasks (camera: nondominant hand, tool: dominant-hand) in a significantly shorter time than the right-handed participants. This study also showed that haptic-controlled simulation-based surgical skill training systems can potentially provide measures for better understanding the individual behaviors and deliver alternative training environments specific to individual requirements.

    Investigation of a Candidate Spin-1/2 Hidden-Charm Triple Strange Pentaquark State pcsss<

    A candidate triple strange pentaquark state, P-csss, is investigated through its strong decay channel P-csss -> C2-J=y/. To calculate the relevant strong coupling constants, two possible interpolating currents with spin-parity JP 1/4 1 - are used. Though the chosen currents for the state under consideration have spin-parity quantum numbers JP 1/4 1 -, they couple to both the positive and negative parity states simultaneously and the corresponding decay widths are obtained for both parities. These widths are obtained as foP(csss) -> J=y/C2- +/_ 1/4 201.4 82.5 MeV for the negative and fo P similar to csss -> J=y/C2- +/_ 1/4 316.4 107.8 MeV for the positive parity state when the first current is used. For the second current, we obtain foP(csss) -> J=y/C2- +/_ 1/4 252.5 116.7 MeV for the negative and fo P similar to csss -> J=y/C2- +/_ 1/4 361.1 ; 98.4 MeV for the positive parity state. These results may provide insights into future experimental observations of such candidate states and help to distinguish and fix their properties.
