Article Citation - Scopus: 3Protective Effects of Metformin in Non-Diabetic Rats With Experimentally Induced Lower Extremity Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury(Turkish National Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society, 2025) Küçük, Ayşegül; Dursun, Alı Dogan; Arslan, Mustafa; Sezen, Şaban Cem; Yıldırım, Alperen Kutay; Özer, Abdullah; Demirtas, HuseyinAim: Lower extremity ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury can lead to substantial skeletal muscle damage and systemic complications, primarily driven by oxidative stress and inflammation. In addition to its well-known glucose-lowering effects, metformin possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may confer protection against tissue damage caused by IR. This study aims to evaluate the potential protective effects of metformin on skeletal muscle injury using a rat model of lower extremity IR.Material and Methods: A total of twenty-four male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into four experimental groups: Control (C), Ischemia-Reperfusion (IR), IR with metformin at 4 mg/kg (IR+M4), and IR with metformin at 8 mg/kg (IR+M8). Ischemia was induced by clamping the infrarenal aorta for 45 minutes, followed by a reperfusion period of 120 minutes. In the treatment groups, metformin was administered intraperitoneally at the onset of ischemia. Gastrocnemius muscle tissues were harvested for subsequent histopathological and biochemical evaluations, including measurements of Total Antioxidant Status (TAS), Total Oxidant Status (TOS), and Oxidative Stress Index (OSI).Results: Histopathological analysis demonstrated a significant reduction in muscle atrophy, degeneration, leukocyte infiltration, and fiber fragmentation in the IR+M8 group compared to the IR group. Biochemical assessments showed that TAS levels were considerably elevated, whereas TOS and OSI levels were markedly reduced in the metformin-treated groups, with the most prominent effects observed at the higher dosage of 8 mg/kg.Conclusion: The findings indicate that metformin exerts a dose-dependent protective effect against skeletal muscle injury resulting from lower extremity ischemia-reperfusion in rats. These protective properties are likely due to metformin’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, highlighting its potential therapeutic value in mitigating IR-induced tissue damage.Editorial Preface(Springer International Publishing, 2017) Hwang, J.-Y.; Jiang, T.; Kennedy, M.W.; Yücel, O.; Pistorius, P.C.; Seshadri, V.; Keskinkiliç, E.Article Citation - Scopus: 4University Librarians’ Perceptions Of Artificial Intelligence, Its Application Areas İn Libraries, And The Future;(University and Research Librarians Association (UNAK), 2024) Cuhadar, Sami; Gurdal, Gultekin; Erken, Mehmet; Mert, Selma; Gezer, Cagatay; Helvacıoğlu, Ece; Atli, SongülGünümüzde kütüphaneler, değişen teknoloji ve yeniliklerden etkilenen kurumlar arasında yer almaktadır. Methods Before conducting the study, approval of the ethics committee of the hospital was obtained. 251 patients who applied to the dermatology outpatient clinic between 01.05.2021-30.09.2021 and were diagnosed with moderate-severe acne were included in the study. Demographic characteristic of the patients, clinical and treatment features, and development of photosensitivity or other side effects during or after the treatment were examined. Results Side effects were seen in 9 out of a total of 251 patients (3.6%). Among these patients, 5 patients (2%) had erythematous papules or plaque-like lesions on the face, and 4 patients (1.6%) had erythematous papules on the forearms. A statistically significant difference for age, sex, the severity of the disease, and treatment dose was not detected between groups classified according to the side effects (p values were respectively: 0.67, 0.058, 0.343, and 0.858). Statistically, a significant difference was found between these groups for the treatment period and usage of sun protection (p values were respectively: 0.011 and 0.003). Conclusion In patients who have erythematous papules and plaques on the face, these findings regressed with topical treatment. Therefore these findings were considered to be due to the usage of the topical acne agent. However, most patients having erythematous papules on their forearms were not using sunscreens and had personal and/or familial history of atopy. Because side effects did not require cessation of the systemic treatment and regressed with administered treatment; in the case of regular usage of sunscreen and utilization of benzoyl peroxide in combination, the photosensitivity side effect was thought to be minimal. © 2023 Pakistan Association of Dermatologists. Signatures with randomizable keys can break this link, preserving verifiability without revealing the signer. While effective for privacy, complex cryptographic systems need to be modular structured for efficient implementation. Threshold structure-preserving signatures enable modular, privacy-friendly protocols. This work combines randomizable keys with threshold structure-preserving signatures to create a valid, modular, and unlinkable foundation for privacy-preserving applications. © 2025 by Paper published under CC license (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).Conference Object Mold Growth Affecting the Achievement of NZEB in the Long Term in Tropical Climates(Free University of Bozen Bolzano, 2025) Carpino, Cristina; Austin, Miguel Chen; Turhan, Cihan; Mora, Dafni Y.; Arcuri, N.The net-zero energy concept significantly impacts global goals regarding energy accessibility (SDG 7) and responsible consumption (SDG 12), particularly in the building sector, which accounts for substantial energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. While extensive research on Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) has focused on the global north, tropical regions require further study, where high solar radiation, temperatures, and humidity challenge building performance throughout the year. Addressing problems like mold growth caused by these tropical climate aspects can undermine NZEB's performance. This study aims to evaluate the impact of mold growth on a representative building under the tropical climate of Panama City (high temperatures and humidity) and Boquete (low temperatures and high humidity). Long-term hygrothermal and energy performance analyses are conducted using simulation software to assess when and how mold growth affects building performance. Mold can harm the health of occupants and increase energy consumption, as additional humidity control devices may be required after the building's design phase. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved. Almost all baryons containing a single heavy quark are discovered in experiments. The quark model predicts the existence of many baryons with double heavy quarks. Among the possible double heavy baryons, only Xi(+)(cc) and Xi(++)(cc) have been experimentally observed in LHCb. Flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) processes represent a promising platform for precise testing of SM and looking for new physics beyond the SM. In this study, the weak decays of spin-1/2 double heavy baryons to spin3/2 single heavy baryons induced by FCNC are studied within the light cone QCD sum rules method. First, the transition form factors of Xi(0,-)(bb) -> Xi(*0,(l) over bar l)(b), Xi(0,-)(bb) -> Sigma(*0,(l) over bar l)(b), Omega(-)(bb) -> Sigma(b)*(-(l) over barl), Omega(-)(bb) -> Sigma(*0,(l) over bar l)(b) decays are calculated. Then, the corresponding decay widths are estimated using the results for the form factors.Article Complex Partial Differential Equations(Springer, 2025) Aksoy, Ü.; Begehr, H.; Çelebi, A.; Shupeyeva, B.The Schwarz and iterated Dirichlet boundary-value problems are reported on for the polyanalytic operator in certain plane domains having a harmonic Green function. Hybrid polyharmonic Green functions are reviewed upon which open a variety of boundary-value problems for the polyharmonic operator. This topic is far from being complete. The higher the order of the polyharmonic operator the richer is the theory of related hybrid Green functions: they are constructed by continued convoluting harmonic Green, Neumann, Robin functions also incorporating polyharmonic Green–Almansi functions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
