Computation of a Tunable Slot-Loaded Equilateral Triangular Microstrip Antenna
    (Vsp Bv, 2009) Aydin, E.
In this paper, a simple closed form expression is developed to accurately estimate the lower and upper operating frequencies of a single feed slot loaded triangular patch (SLTP) with variations of the bent slot lengths. It is obtained by using cavity model analysis and useful to antenna engineers for accurately predicting both operating resonant frequencies of the SLTP. The theory is compared with the experimental results available in the literature, and excellent agreement is observed. The proposed computation is also extended to the analysis of tunability of the SLTP as a function of the air-gap height.

Installation and Performance of the 3rd Veto Plane at the SND@LHC Detector
    (IOP Publishing Ltd, 2025) Abbaneo, D.; Acampora, G.; Ahmad, S.; Albanese, R.; Alexandrov, A.; Alicante, F.; Zamora Saa, J.
During 2022/2023 the optimal inefficiency of the Veto system of the SND@LHC detector was measured to be (7.8 +/- 2.8) x 10(-8). To reduce this inefficiency, a third Veto plane was installed during the 2023-2024 Year End Technical Stop. In addition, the Veto system was lowered to cover the target fully, thereby increasing acceptance. This paper describes how the inefficiency of the Veto system was reduced from (7.8 +/- 2.8) x 10(-8) with an acceptance of about 64% of the target area in 2022-2023 to (4.9 +/- 1.9) x 10(-9) on the full area in 2024.

The Battle of Kars During the Russo-Turkish War (1877- 1878) in V. P. Meshcherskiy's 'caucasian Travel Diary'
(İstanbul University Faculty of Letters, 2021) Gülseven,A.Y.; International Relations
Travel notes and memoirs contain many contents that fill the gaps in official history, and are thus precious material for historians as primary sources. This study aims to explore the historical context of the Battle of Kars during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 by focusing on Vladimir Petrovich Meshcherskiy's travel notes and memoirs on the trip from Moscow to Kars during the war in 1877. Although there is a vast literature on the course and consequences of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, we have little first-hand information from the field to fill the gaps in our knowledge of the developments during and aftermath of the Kars attack. Meshcherskiy's travel diary does not only provide us with a close-up view of the Eastern front of the Russo-Turkish War, but it also sheds light on the attitude of the local people under the Russian siege. Although this diary provides a rich source of information from the viewpoint of Meshcherskiy, a prominent Russian journalist and novelist, it has never been used in the academic literature on the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. © Turkish Journal of History 2021.

A Key To the "democratic Opening": Rethinking Citizenship, Ethnicity and Turkish Nation-State
(Seta Foundation, 2010) Koker, Levent; Law
This article focuses on the ongoing process of transition in Turkey from a "homogeneous national identity", which produced a notion of "equality as sameness", to a "multiculturalist democracy" that requires a new constitutional system that has a conception of "equality in difference". The organization of this paper is as follows: First a brief evaluation of the Kemalist foundations of the Republic will be provided to establish how the official ideology in Turkey conceives of state-society relations. An evaluation of the persistence of this official ideology under the multiparty political system is provided in the second part. The final part of the paper concentrates on the rising public presence of the Kurdish problem, which is forcing Turkish politics to change its constitutional identity, most notably aided by the process of change driven by EU reforms. The article concludes with a call for the inevitability of a radical change in Turkish constitutional identity to include a public recognition of multiculturalism through an acceptance of linguistic and other cultural rights, but leaves open the question of how this change will be realized.

Component Importance in Coherent Systems With Exchangeable Components
(Cambridge Univ Press, 2015) Eryilmaz, Serkan
This paper is concerned with the Birnbaum importance measure of a component in a binary coherent system. A representation for the Birnbaum importance of a component is obtained when the system consists of exchangeable dependent components. The results are closely related to the concept of the signature of a coherent system. Some examples are presented to illustrate the results.

Multipath Exploitation in Emitter Localization for Irregular Terrains
    (Czech Technical University, 2019) Dalveren,Y.; Kara,A.
Electronic Support Measures (ESM) systems have many operational challenges while locating radar emitter's position around irregular terrains such as islands due to multipath scattering. To overcome these challenges, this paper addresses exploiting multipath scattering in passive localization of radar emitters around irregular terrains. The idea is based on the use of multipath scattered signals as virtual sensor through Geographical Information System (GIS). In this way, it is presented that single receiver (ESM receiver) passive localization can be achieved for radar emitters. The study is initiated with estimating candidate multipath scattering centers over irregular terrain. To do this, ESM receivers' Angle of Arrival (AOA) and Time of Arrival (TOA) information are required for directly received radar pulses along with multipath scattered pulses. The problem then turns out to be multiple-sensor localization problem for which Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA)-based techniques can easily be applied. However, there is high degree of uncertainty in location of candidate multipath scattering centers as the multipath scattering involves diffuse components over irregular terrain. Apparently, this causes large localization errors in TDOA. To reduce this error, a reliability based weighting method is proposed. Simulation results regarding with a simplified 3D model are also presented. © 2019 RADIOENGINEERING.

A Study on the Performance Evaluation of Wavelet Decomposition in Transient-Based Radio Frequency Fingerprinting of Bluetooth Devices
(Wiley, 2022) Almashaqbeh, Hemam; Dalveren, Yaser; Kara, Ali
Radio frequency fingerprinting (RFF) is used as a physical-layer security method to provide security in wireless networks. Basically, it exploits the distinctive features (fingerprints) extracted from the physical waveforms emitted from radio devices in the network. One of the major challenges in RFF is to create robust features forming the fingerprints of radio devices. Here, dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DT-CWT) provides an accurate way of extracting those robust features. However, its performance on the RFF of Bluetooth transients which fall into narrowband signaling has not been reported yet. Therefore, this study examines the performance of DT-CWT features on the use of transient-based RFF of Bluetooth devices. Initially, experimentally collected Bluetooth transients from different smartphones are decomposed by DT-CWT. Then, the characteristics and statistics of the wavelet domain signal are exploited to create robust features. Next, the support vector machine (SVM) is used to classify the smartphones. The classification accuracy is demonstrated by varying channel signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the size of transient duration. Results show that reasonable accuracy can be achieved (lower bound of 88%) even with short transient duration (1024 samples) at low SNRs (0-5 dB).

The Effect of Post-Learning Arousal on Memory in Education
(inderscience Enterprises Ltd, 2015) Ozcelik, Erol
Cognitive psychological and neurobiological studies have shown that presenting emotional events after learning enhances memory performance. It has been suggested that arousal induced by emotional stimuli modulates memory consolidation. However, little is known about the memory consolidation process in education. The goal of this study is to investigate the effect of post-learning arousal on memory consolidation in an applied educational setting. Participants were presented with either emotionally arousing or neutral pictures after they studied the instructional materials. Their memory for instructional materials was tested by an immediate free-recall test and a recognition test administered after one week. The results suggest that presenting emotionally arousing pictures compared to neutral pictures enhanced recognition memory performance. These findings support that emotional stimuli facilitated consolidation of memory traces. By incorporating theories in cognitive psychology and neurobiology and using them in an educational setting, this study proposes a novel way to enhance learning through emotional arousal.

A Site Survey of Damaged Rc Buildings in Izmir After the Aegean Sea Earthquake on October 30, 2020
(Croatian Soc Civil Engineers-hsgi, 2023) Mertol, Halit Cenan; Tunc, Gokhan; Akis, Tolga
An earthquake with a magnitude of Mw = 6.6 and a depth of approximately 16.5 km occurred on 30 October 2020 off the cost of Samos, a Greek island 35 km southwest of Seferihisar, a town in Izmir. The earthquake caused several collapses and severe structural damage in approximately 6,000 buildings, specifically in the Bayrakli District in Izmir Bay. This paper presents the observations and findings of a technical team that visited the earthquake -affected areas immediately after the earthquake. Eleven partially or fully collapsed and several severely damaged reinforced concrete buildings were investigated. Based on the site investigations, we observed that almost all of the collapsed or severely damaged reinforced concrete buildings in the region were built between 1975 and 2000. Site observations also confirmed that the construction of these collapsed or damaged buildings did not conform to the requirements outlined in the Turkish Earthquake Codes used at the time. The failures and severe damage to buildings in earthquake-affected areas are primarily related to inadequate reinforcement configuration, poor material quality, the absence of geotechnical studies, and framing problems related to their lateral load-carrying systems. Therefore, it is recommended that all the buildings located in and around Izmir Bay, particularly those built between 1975 and 2000, be structurally evaluated to prevent any further loss of life and property during future earthquakes.

A Two-Stage Solution Approach for the Large-Scale Home Healthcare Routeing and Scheduling Problem
(Southern African inst industrial Engineering, 2017) Erdem, M.; Bulkan, S.
The purpose of this study is to introduce a two-stage solution approach for a large-scale home healthcare routeing and scheduling problem (HHCRSP). In the first part of the two-stage solution approach, a cluster-assign algorithm is employed, based on the home location and the time to obtain feasible clusters. In the second stage, using these clusters, route construction heuristics start to create schedules and routes, taking the side constraints of the model into consideration. Using the novelty of this two-stage solution approach, higher diversification is achieved with a series of newly-developed cross movement strategies. The computational results show that our solution approach offers certain advantages, such as an increase in the efficient use of human resources, and a decrease in the working time of nurses.
