Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 5Scattering of Plane Waves at the Junction of Two Corrugated Half-Planes(Taylor & Francis inc, 2005) Serbest, AH; Kara, A; Lueneburg, EIn this paper, the boundary conditions given by Weinstein ( 1969) are employed to simulate two corrugated half-planes with the same slot height but different slot width. The scattering mechanism at the junction of these half-planes is investigated via the Fourier transform technique, which leads to two coupled Wiener - Hopf equations. The solution of the Wiener - Hopf system is obtained by the Daniele - Khrapkov method and some numerical results are presented about the analysis of the scattered field.Letter The Impact of the "Newborn Gang" Scandal on Türkiye's Neonatal Healthcare Community(Taylor & Francis inc, 2025) Yuksel, DidemArticle Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 4Examining the non-linear stochastic behavior of the European energy market: evidence from nonlinear unit root tests(Taylor & Francis inc, 2022) Aktan, Ceyda; Omay, Tolga; Sahin, Eyyup EnsariStock market efficiency has been one of the most investigated topics of the last century. Knowing the efficiency of a market has major implications for both investors and policymakers, as a perfectly efficient market eliminates any arbitrage opportunity and the possibility of actually beating the market. For this reason, this study aims to examine the weak-form market efficiency of the European energy markets using linear and nonlinear unit root tests for the period covering February 2012 to April 2021. The results indicated that while the Augmented Dickey-Fuller test captured the stationarity in only Austria's Oil, and Gas index, using nonlinear tests showed stationarity in 17 of the 20 indices tested. Overall, the European Energy Market can be considered inefficient under the weak form of the Efficient Market Hypothesis. Therefore, there is an indication of profitable arbitrage opportunities among energy stocks. Signs of stationarity also suggest that shocks to energy stocks will have temporary effects. Energy markets of Austria, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, for this reason, could benefit from policy changes to support increased information flow to achieve more transparency and utilize better trading technologies.Article Citation - WoS: 23Citation - Scopus: 27Comparison of Improved Slope Uniform Theory of Diffraction With Some Geometrical Optic and Physical Optic Methods for Multiple Building Diffractions(Taylor & Francis inc, 2009) Tabakcioglu, M. B.; Kara, A.This article presents a review of diffraction algorithms based on the uniform theory of diffraction for multiple building transition zone diffractions and proposes an improved uniform theory of diffraction model for fast and more accurate field prediction for multiple diffractions. The proposed method is based on the improved version of the slope uniform theory of diffraction and Fresnel zone concept, called the slope uniform theory of diffraction with convex hull. This article also provides a comparison for uniform theory of diffraction based algorithms and discusses the results for computation time and accuracy. Furthermore, the slope uniform theory of diffraction and the slope uniform theory of diffraction with convex hull methods are compared with a physical optics solution based on numerical computation of the Kirchhoff-Huygens integrals. Results of extensive simulations are presented and discussed for the development of fast and accurate radio network planning tools.Article Citation - WoS: 19Citation - Scopus: 22Improvements on Slope Diffraction for Multiple Wedges(Taylor & Francis inc, 2010) Tabakcioglu, Mehmet Baris; Kara, AliThis article proposes an improved slope uniform theory of diffraction model for fast and more accurate field prediction for multiple wedge diffractions in the transition zone. The proposed method is based on the slope uniform theory of diffraction and the Fresnel zone concept, called the slope uniform theory of diffraction with convex hull. The article also provides simulation results for the comparison of the uniform theory of diffraction based algorithms with respect to the computation time and accuracy.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1The Effects of Amniotic Fluid and Foetal Cord Blood Cotinine Concentrations on Pregnancy Complications and the Anthropometric Measurements of Newborns(Taylor & Francis inc, 2019) Terzioglu, Fusun; Boztepe, Handan; Erkekoglu, Pinar; Korucu, Asli Er; Kocer-Gumusel, Belma; Kandemir, OmerOur objective was determining the effects of amniotic fluid (AF) and fetal cord blood (FCB) cotinine concentrations on pregnancy complications and the anthropometric measurements in the newborns whose mothers underwent amniocentesis. This study was conducted as a case-control study, in Turkey. A total of 250 pregnant women with amniocentesis indication were recruited into the study and the cotinine levels in the AF and FCB were determined. A smoking habit did not statistically affect the incidence of pregnancy complications (p>.05). The birth weights of the newborns were negatively correlated with the AF cotinine levels. The incidences of low birth weight, low Apgar scores and RDS were positively correlated with higher levels of cotinine in AF and FCB. It is important for healthcare staff to provide training and consultancy services for the health improvement of pregnant women and the prevention of smoking during pregnancy.Impact statement What is already known on this subject? The pre-pregnancy smoking habit usually continues during the pregnancy. A significant negative correlation was present between the foetal cord blood cotinine levels and the birth weight. What do the results of this study add? The anthropometric measurements of the newborns born from mothers with high AF cotinine levels were lower than newborns born from mothers with low amniotic fluid cotinine levels. Respiratory Distress syndrome is more often determined in newborns born from mothers with high AF cotinine levels.
