    Generalized δ-shock model via runs
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2012) Eryilmaz, Serkan
According to the delta-shock model, the system fails when the time between two consecutive shocks falls below a fixed threshold delta. This model has a potential application in various fields such as inventory, insurance and system reliability. In this paper, we study run-related generalization of this model such that the system fails when k consecutive interarrival times are less than a threshold delta. The survival function and the mean value of the failure time of the system are explicitly derived for exponentially distributed interarrival times. We also propose a new combined shock model which considers both the magnitudes of successive shocks and the interarrival times. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

    (k1< k2< km< System and Its Reliability
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2019) Eryilmaz, Serkan
This paper is concerned with a system consisting of multiple types of components and having (k(1), k(2),..., k(m))-out-of-n structure. The (k(1), k(2),.., k(m))-out-of-n system is a system consisting of n components of type i, i = 1, 2,..., m, and functions if at least k(1) components of type 1, k(2) components of type 2,..., k(m) components of type m work, n = Sigma(n)(i=1) n(i). The exact and approximate expressions are obtained for the survival function of the system under concern. The weighted-(k(1), k(2),..., k(m))-out-of-n system is also defined and studied. This weighted model is applied to evaluate the wind power system that consists of two wind plants. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Gold and Ytterbium Interfacing Effects on the Properties of the Cdse/Yb Nanosandwiched Structures
    (Elsevier Science Bv, 2018) Alharbi, S. R.; Qasrawi, A. F.
Owing to the performance of the CdSe as an optoelectronic material used for the production of quantum dots, photosensors and wave traps we here, in this article, report the enhancements in structural and electrical properties that arises from the nanosandwiching of a 40 nm thick Yb film between two films of CdSe (CYbC-40). The CdSe films which were deposited onto glass, Yb and Au substrates are characterized by X-ray diffraction, temperature dependent electrical conductivity and impedance spectroscopy measurements in the frequency range of 10-1800 MHz. The analysis of the XRD patterns have shown that the glass/CdSe/Yb/CdSe films exhibit larger grain size and lower strain, defect density and lower stacking faults compared to the not sandwiched CdSe. In addition, it was observed that the Yb shifts the donor states of the n-type CdSe from 0.44 to 0.29 eV leading to a modification in the built in voltage of the material. On the other hand, the design of the energy band diagram has shown the ability of the formation of the Au/CYbC-40/Yb as Schottky (SB) and the Au/CYbC-40/Au as back to back Schottky barriers (BBSB). While the SB device show low band pass filter characteristics, the BBSB device performed as band stop filters. The BBSB device exhibited negative capacitance effects with filtering features that reveal a return loss of 42 dB at similar to 1440 MHz.

Fabrication of Al/Mgo and C/Mgo Tunneling Barriers for Tunable Negative Resistance and Negative Capacitance Applications
    (Elsevier Science Bv, 2013) Qasrawi, A. F.
In this work, the design and characterization of magnesium oxide based tunneling diodes which are produced on Al and InSe films as rectifying substrates are investigated. It was found that when Al thin films are used, the device exhibit tunneling diode behavior of sharp valley at 0.15 V and peak to valley current ratio (PVCR) of 11.4. In addition, the capacitance spectra of the Al/MgO/C device show a resonance peak of negative capacitance (NC) values at 44.7 MHz. The capacitance and resistance-voltage characteristics handled at an ac signal frequency of 100 MHz reflected a build in voltage (V-bi) of 1.29 V and a negative resistance (NR) effect above 2.05 V. This device quality factor (Q)-voltage response is similar to 10(4). When the Al substrate is replaced by InSe thin film, the tunneling diode valley appeared at 1.1 V. In addition, the PVCR, NR range, NC resonance peak, Q and lib; are found to be 135, 0.94-2.24 and 39.0 MHz, similar to 10(5) and 1.34 V, respectively. Due to the wide differential negative resistance and capacitance voltage ranges and due to the response of the C/MgO/InSe/C device at 1.0 GHz, these devices appear to be suitable for applications as frequency mixers, amplifiers, and monostable-bistable circuit elements (MOBILE). Simplified software inspection process in compliance with international standards
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2009) Mishra, Deepti; Mishra, Alok
A significant amount of software is developed all over the world by small and medium size software organizations. These organizations do not have enough infrastructures and resources to implement an austere quality plan. Software inspection is a fundamental component of the software quality assurance process. Formal review methods are rigorous and their implementation is cumbersome for small and medium enterprises. In this paper, we have presented a new simplified inspection process which is easy to implement. requires fewer resource and almost no documentation. Also, people who are conducting this inspection need not be present at the same place during most stages of the inspection process. We have also compared this process with IEEE and NASA standards for software inspection and found that it meets almost 99% of both standards. While there has been much research on inspection, little attention is paid towards compliance with international standards. These results could be used as a basis for further research in software inspection and process towards aligning with international standards. This process has been successfully implemented in a CMM level 3 software development organization which is striving to accomplish higher maturity levels to establish at the international level. On Global Asymptotic Stability of 2-D Discrete Systems With State Saturation
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2008) Singh, Vimal
A criterion for the global asymptotic stability of 2-D discrete systems described by the Roesser model employing state saturation nonlinearities is presented. The criterion is a less restrictive version of an earlier criterion due to Liu and Michel. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Personality and Individual Differences: Literature in Psychology-Psychology in Literature
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2015) Aras, Goksen
Literature, which intertwines within such fields as history, philosophy, sociology, psychology and so on, is a discipline wherein language is used as a medium of expression so as to interpret man, existence and culture. The objective of this paper is to discuss literature in terms of its interdisciplinary structure, psychology, in particular, considering man and existence, personality and individual differences which have always been studied by writers, philosophers, artists, psychologists and psychiatrists. Several complex notions, unfathomable personalities and ambiguous motives have been associated with characters in literary genres: For example the term Bovarism is explained by means of Flaubert's Madame Bovary. Similar examples in literary works could be multiplied. Man and existence have been fundamental themes in literature, which has existed even before psychology. Works of literature and art enable individuals to be aware of their personalities and individual differences and to question life and existence, the main data in the field of psychology as well. It is overtly seen that there is a very strong correlation between literature and psychology since both of them deal with human beings and their reactions, miseries, desires, and their individual and social concerns by means of different concepts, methods, and approaches. Generalized Sooner Waiting Time Problems in a Sequence of Trinary Trials
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2016) Eryilmaz, Serkan; Gong, Min; Xie, Min
Let {xi(n), n >= 1} be a sequence of independent trials with three possible outcomes 0, 1, 2 labeled as failure, success of type I and success of type II, respectively. Suppose that at each time a success of type I (type II) occurs in {xi(n), n >= 1} a random reward of type I (type II) is received. We obtain distributions of the number of trials until either the sum of consecutive rewards of type I is equal to or exceeds the level k(1) or the sum of consecutive rewards of type II is equal to or exceeds the level k(2) under two different schemes. Differences in System Justification With Respect To Gender, Political Conservatism, Socio-Economic Status and Religious Fundamentalism
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2011) Dirilen-Gumus, Ozlem; Department of Psychology
In this research, we investigated the differences in system justification in relation to gender, political conservatism, socioeconomic status (SES) and religious fundamentalism. Three hundred Turkish University Students were given System Justification Scale, Political Ideology and Religiosity Scale. They also supplied their demographic information. Muslim Religious Orientation Scale was also included into the questionnaire in order to identify those who have extrinsic, intrinsic, quest and fundamentalist orientation. It was found that masculinity, having a conservative political ideology, religious fundamentalism and having a low SES will lead to more individuals having system-justifying thoughts. These findings were discussed in the light of the relevant literature. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. A Multi-Agent System Model for Partner Selection Process in Virtual Enterprise
    (Elsevier Science Bv, 2014) Sadigh, B. Lotfi; Arikan, F.; Ozbayoglu, A. M.; Unver, H. O.; Kilic, S. E.; Lotfi Sadigh, B.
Virtual Enterprise (VE) is a collaboration model between multiple business partners in a value chain. VE information system deals with highly dynamic information from heterogeneous data sources. In order to manage and store dynamic VE information in the database, an ontology based VE model has been developed. To select winner enterprises in VE, a Multi Agent System (MAS) has been developed. Communication and data transition among agents and system entities are based on defined rules in VE ontology model. One of the most important contributions of agents in VE system is in partner selection step of VE formation phase. In this step several agents with different goals and strategies are collaborating and competing each other to win the negotiation procedure or maximize the profit for their assigned enterprise. Different strategies are developed for the agents depending on their appetite for winning the auction against maximizing the profit. Several simulations were run and the results are stored. These results are fed into a neural network in order to predict which enterprise will win the auction and what will be the profit margin. The motivation is to provide a forecasting agent for the customers about the outcomes of the auctions so that they can plan ahead and take the necessary action. Early results indicate such simulated multi-agent VE formations can be used in real systems.
