    The Dark Side of Proactive Behaviors and Blind Spot Management

    Proactive behavior, which should be anticipatory and agentic, can be defined as actions focused on certain behaviors aimed at improving job performance, career success, and employee well-being. Even if organizational citizenship behaviors have been frequently characterized as proactive behaviors, this is not true under every condition, as they may be either reactive or passive. Although proactive behavior among employees has been widely studied because of the importance that organizations place on improving performance and effectiveness, the potential and possible negative outcomes of such behavior have often been ignored. Examining and discovering the potential negative implications of proactive behaviors and formulating strategies to manage blind spots are vital for developing a general understanding of proactive behaviors for both employees and firms. The intention of this study is to conduct a literature review on proactive behaviors by focusing on the dark side and blind spots of proactive behaviors.     Online Social Networking and Romantic Relationships

    With the increased popularity of social media, social networking sites (SNSs) have received the attention of many scholars. In particular, researchers have focused on the impact of SNSs on interpersonal relationships. Accordingly, this chapter provides an overview of the extant literature concerning associations between the use of SNSs and romantic relationships. It provides empirical evidence on how social networking behaviors are influenced by adult attachment styles, and how social networking influences relationship constructs such as satisfaction, commitment, jealousy, and relationship dissolution. Furthermore, it presents previous research that emphasizes gender as a moderator in these relations. This chapter overall contributes to researchers and professionals in providing information on online social networking and emphasizing key romantic relationship constructs related to the use of SNSs.     Psychological Benefits and Detrimental Effects of Online Social Networking

    With the growing prevalence of wireless communication technologies, social networking sites (SNSs) such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. have become an important venues for interpersonal communication. This chapter provides a detailed overview of the current literature on online social networking with respect to its beneficial and detrimental effects on psychological wellbeing. In particular, it provides empirical evidence for the associations of SNS use with depression, self-esteem, loneliness, subjective wellbeing, social anxiety, attachment, personality traits, and addiction. Furthermore, it identifies the characteristics of individuals who are more prone to social networking, and presents possible mediators and moderators playing a role in the relationship between social networking and mental health. The chapter overall provides a comprehensive guideline to parents, researchers, educators, healthcare, and communication professionals to the issue of online social networking from a psychological perspective. © 2022 by IGI Global.     Consumer Behavior and Sustainability: What Role Does Eco-Friendly Packaging Play in Emerging Markets

    Purpose – This study aims to offer a systematic review of eco-friendly packaged products from the consumer perspective in emerging markets. Design/methodology/approach – This study analyzed 47 Web of Science and SCOPUS articles using the PRISMA and theory-context-characteristics-methodology (TCCM) framework. Findings – This systematic review shows that prior research was mainly quantitative and relied heavily on the theory of planned behavior. This study categorized the articles by personal, product, price, place, promotion and external factors. Research primarily focused on personal factors, especially values and attitudes. Place-related factors were the least studied. Few studies explored mediators and moderators of purchase intention. Originality/value – This study shifts the focus of eco-friendly packaging research toward the consumer perspective, which was underexplored in the existing literature, particularly in emerging markets. While prior studies have primarily centered on manufacturers, this review synthesizes prior research showing that consumer behavior, knowledge and perception play a critical role in advancing sustainability and circular economy goals. This systematic review is the first to address this gap in emerging markets and offers implications for policymakers and businesses aiming to promote sustainable consumption in diverse socioeconomic settings. © 2025 Emerald Publishing Limited

    Evaluation of Space Efficiency, Structural Systems, Material Applications, and Design of High-Rise Structures in South Korea

    This study examines 61 South Korean towers, analyzing their architectural configu-rations, structural systems, material applications, and spatial efficiencies. Findings indicate a pre-dominance of central core configurations and prismatic forms, reinforcing a function-driven approach to vertical urbanism. Structural system preferences highlight the widespread use of out-riggered frames, ensuring lateral stability while optimizing floor layouts. Material selection trends reveal a reliance on concrete, aligning with global patterns, while composite materials (25%) are used in high-performance supertall structures. Functionally, residential high-rises dominate, with mixed-use (2%) and office towers (11%) remaining limited. This research also identifies an aver-age spatial efficiency of 76%, aligning with international benchmarks, though variations exist across cities due to core-to-gross floor area ratios, structural constraints, and service core alloca-tions. This research underscores South Korea’s strategic high-rise development, prioritizing space optimization, structural efficiency, and economic feasibility. However, opportunities re-main for increased functional diversity, broader hybrid material adoption, and greater integration of sustainable design innovations. These findings contribute to global skyscraper analysis, offering insights into high-rise architecture’s role in urban resilience and density management. © 2025 Aktaş et al.

    Differential and Linear Analyses of DIZY Through MILP Modeling

    In this work, we present the first independent security analysis of DIZY, a recently proposed ultra-lightweight stream cipher with two variants: DIZY-80 and DIZY-128. Our analysis focuses on DIZY’s resistance to linear and differential cryptanalysis. We employ a formal technique known as Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP), which enables us to model the internal structure of DIZY and search for characteristics that describe how XOR differences or linear masks propagate through the cipher. Specifically, we construct such characteristics to evaluate how many S-boxes become “active” during keystream generation, as this number directly affects the cipher’s resistance to these attacks. Contrary to the designers’ claim that any linear or differential characteristic over 8 rounds must involve at least 20 active S-boxes in DIZY-80 and 22 in DIZY-128, we identify characteristics with only 18 differentially or linearly active S-boxes and 20 linearly active S-boxes, respectively. We mount two distinguishing attacks on each cipher. Our 3-round linear distinguishing attack requires 223 bits of keystream, while the 4-round version requires 235 bits for DIZY-128 and DIZY-80, respectively. Our 2-round differential resynchronization attacks succeed using only the first four bytes of keystream data from approximately 230 and 226 different initializations with chosen initialization vectors (IVs) for DIZY-128 and DIZY-80, respectively. While these attacks do not compromise the full 15-round version of the cipher, they provide valuable insights into the design of DIZY and contribute to a deeper understanding of the security requirements of its diffusion layer. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2026.

    Fostering Prosperity: Unveiling the Impact of Governance Quality on Gdp Per Capita in Oecd Nations

    This study aims to investigate the influence of the quality of governance on economic development among 38 OECD countries using a panel data approach. The data was gathered from the World Bank database for the period of 2002-2021 and consists of six governance indicators and two macroeconomic variables. The independent variables are the six governance indicators (WGI): control of corruption (CC), government effectiveness (GE), political stability and absence of violence/terrorism (PS), rule of law (RL), regulatory quality (RQ), and voice and accountability (VA). The dependent variable is the natural logarithm of GDP per capita, and inflation and real interest rates are control variables. The research identifies a direct and significant relationship between GDPPC and GE, PS, RL, RQ, and VA in OECD countries. These findings suggest that the existence of mechanisms for GE, PS, RL, RQ, and VA contribute positively to economic development. Moreover, interest rates and inflation are found to be significant and negatively related to GDPPC. © 2025, IGI Global. All rights reserved.

    Protective Effects of Metformin in Non-Diabetic Rats With Experimentally Induced Lower Extremity Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

    Aim: Lower extremity ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury can lead to substantial skeletal muscle damage and systemic complications, primarily driven by oxidative stress and inflammation. In addition to its well-known glucose-lowering effects, metformin possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may confer protection against tissue damage caused by IR. This study aims to evaluate the potential protective effects of metformin on skeletal muscle injury using a rat model of lower extremity IR.Material and Methods: A total of twenty-four male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into four experimental groups: Control (C), Ischemia-Reperfusion (IR), IR with metformin at 4 mg/kg (IR+M4), and IR with metformin at 8 mg/kg (IR+M8). Ischemia was induced by clamping the infrarenal aorta for 45 minutes, followed by a reperfusion period of 120 minutes. In the treatment groups, metformin was administered intraperitoneally at the onset of ischemia. Gastrocnemius muscle tissues were harvested for subsequent histopathological and biochemical evaluations, including measurements of Total Antioxidant Status (TAS), Total Oxidant Status (TOS), and Oxidative Stress Index (OSI).Results: Histopathological analysis demonstrated a significant reduction in muscle atrophy, degeneration, leukocyte infiltration, and fiber fragmentation in the IR+M8 group compared to the IR group. Biochemical assessments showed that TAS levels were considerably elevated, whereas TOS and OSI levels were markedly reduced in the metformin-treated groups, with the most prominent effects observed at the higher dosage of 8 mg/kg.Conclusion: The findings indicate that metformin exerts a dose-dependent protective effect against skeletal muscle injury resulting from lower extremity ischemia-reperfusion in rats. These protective properties are likely due to metformin’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, highlighting its potential therapeutic value in mitigating IR-induced tissue damage.
