Book Part Clinical Development of Quinone-Based Drugs(Elsevier, 2024) Altuner, E.E.; Issa, G.; Ozalp, V.C.; Aldemir, O.; Torlak, Y.; Dar, U.A.This chapter provides a detailed explanation of the clinical investigations, pharmacological effects, and characteristics of quinone and quinone derivatives, along with references to pertinent sources. Although quinones have an oxygen group in their structure, they are quickly oxidized and interact with reactive oxygen species. This demonstrates how quinones work as drugs. Quinones and their derivatives are used as medications to treat a wide range of diseases, including cancer, lung, kidney, brain, and tumor disorders. Each of the following has effects on a different area of health; lapochols, anthraquinones, naphthoquinone and its derivatives, and other wide range of quinone derivatives are thoroughly explored in this chapter. © 2025 Elsevier Inc. The purpose of the designs is to open rectangular slots on rectangular shaped patch antennas and bring them to the desired operating conditions with parametric analyzes. The designs were carried out by following the same procedure steps using five different dielectric laminate substrate materials, such as RO3003, RT6006, FR4, RO3203, RO6010, and one denim fabric base material. The antennas were compared in terms of return loss, gain and radiation characteristics. Except for the antenna designed with RO3203 at certain values of rectangular slots, radiation at multiple frequencies was obtained at 5G frequencies. With the proposed method, improvement was observed for return loss and bandwidth characteristics in the RO3203 based antenna. This study will be a resource for antenna researchers by revealing the responses of different substrate materials to the same design method for 5G bands in patch antennas. © 2024 IEEE.Article Barriers to Adherence After A Self-Management Lymphedema Education Program Among Women with Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema(Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2026) Uçar, G.C.; Kapucu, S.; Arıkan Dönmez, A.A.; Ozdemir, O.; Dönmez, Ayşe A.Objectives: – Lymphedema associated with breast cancer is a chronic condition that negatively affects women’s physical functioning, psychosocial well-being, and quality of life. Although self-management education is a fundamental component of lymphedema care, many women struggle to maintain recommended practices in daily life over time. To explore how women with breast cancer-related lymphedema integrate self-management education into daily life over time and to identify barriers to sustained adherence 1 year or more after completing a self-management lymphedema education program (SMLEP). Methods: – A descriptive phenomenological qualitative design was used. In-depth, semistructured interviews were conducted with 17 women diagnosed with breast cancer-related lymphedema. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: – Two overarching themes were identified: problems caused by lymphedema and barriers to self-management. Problems included limitations in activities of daily living, pain, restricted social participation, and body image disturbance. Barriers included economic difficulties, decreased belief in treatment effectiveness, boredom and forgetfulness, lack of family support, absence of monitoring mechanisms, use of the dominant arm, and symptom regression. Conclusions: – Women with breast cancer-related lymphedema face interconnected physical, emotional, and contextual challenges that limit long-term self-management adherence beyond knowledge deficits alone. © 2026Conference Object Need for a Software Development Methodology for Research-Based Software Projects(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Cereci,I.; Karakaya,Z.Software development is mostly carried by a group of individuals. Software development methodologies are heavily utilized to organize these individuals and keep track of the entire software development process. Although previously proposed software development methodologies meet the needs of the industry and the firms, they are not usually suitable for research-based software projects that are carried by universities and individual researchers. In this paper, we aim to show the necessity of a new software development methodology for research-based problems carried by universities. The literature review will show the differences between industry and university software projects from certain aspects. These findings will be supported by the authors own research on the area. This qualitative research involves collecting data through interviews and applying Grounded Theory to better understand the development process. © 2018 IEEE.Article Crack Detection on Asphalt Runway Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Data with Non-Crack Object Removal and Deep Learning Methods(Pontificia Univ Catolica Chile, Escuela Construccion Civil, 2025) Tapkin, Serkan; Tercan, Emre; Bostan, Atila; Sengul, GokhanUnmanned aerial vehicles are extensively utilized for image acquisition in a cheap, fast, and effective way. In this study, an automatic crack detection method with non-crack object removal and deep learning-based approaches are developed and tested on images captured by unmanned aerial vehicle. The motivation of this study is to detect either a crack exists or not in the asphalt-runway. The novelty of this study lies in integrating a non-crack artifact removal process with six classical edge detectors and comparing the resulting performance with four lightweight CNN models on the same UAV-acquired runway image dataset, enabling a unified evaluation of classical and learning-based approaches. For deep learning-based approach, four lightweight CNN models, namely GoogleNet, SqueezeNet, MobileNetv2, and ShuffleNet, are trained and the best accuracy of %87.9 is obtained whenever GoogleNet model is used. For the non-crack object removal approach, exclusion of non-crack objects from the images is the first step, where crack-detection which makes use of edge-detection techniques is the latter. In the study, Sobel, Prewitt, Canny, Laplacian of Gaussian, Roberts and Zero Cross edge detection algorithms are examined and their success rates in detecting cracks are comparatively presented. With sensitivity=0.981, specificity=0.744, accuracy=0.917, precision=0.912 and F-score=0.945 values Canny algorithm performs significantly better than others in detecting the cracks. This study provides enough evidence for the practicability of automated crack detection on unprocessed digital photographs by the results of the study conducted on asphalt runway.Article Legalizing Anti-Gender Ideology and Civil Society Resistance in Turkey(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2026) Keysan, Asuman Ozgur; Özgür Keysan, AsumanThis study investigates how feminist, LGBTQI+, labour, and human rights organisations in Turkey frame and negotiate the legal institutionalisation of anti-gender ideology and how these processes generate strategic yet fragile cross-movement alliances. Drawing on Benford and Snow's framing theory and Yuval-Davis's transversal politics, the analysis is based on semi-structured interviews conducted with activists from ten organisations between April and June 2025 and organisational documents. The study conceptualises anti-gender politics in Turkey not as a societal backlash but as a state-driven, multi-layered project of "masculinist entrenchment (Yetis, & Ozd & uuml;zen, 2024)" that restructures legal, ideological, and affective arenas. The findings demonstrate that activists increasingly reframe anti-gender assaults as systemic attacks on democracy, rights, and equality, producing a shift from issue-based coordination to what this article terms "strategic coexistence", a hybrid alliance formed across previously distant ideological and organisational positions. Diagnostic framing identifies anti-gender reforms as an existential threat, prognostic framing centres on alliance-building, movement memory, and inclusive organisational practices and motivational framing foregrounds shared destiny, solidarity, and the symbolic significance of LGBTQI+ rights. The analysis reveals that while this recontextualisation widens the basis for coalition, the resulting alliance remains structurally unbalanced and fragile. Hierarchical power relations, uneven exposure to political risk, and selective silence, particularly regarding LGBTQI+ concerns, limit the depth and durability of alliances. In this context, LGBTQI+ rights serve both as a catalyst for broad-based mobilisation and as a litmus test for democratic commitment, disclosing the limitations of transversal solidarity under authoritarian regimes.Article Regular AdS3 Black Holes From a Regularized Gauss-Bonnet Coupling(Elsevier, 2026) Alkac, Gokhan; Mesta, Murat; Unal, GonulWe obtain a three-dimensional bi-vector-tensor theory of the generalized Proca class by regularizing the Gauss-Bonnet invariant within the Weyl geometry. We show that the theory admits a regular AdS3 black hole solution with primary hairs. Introducing a deformation in the theory, a different regular AdS3 black hole solution is obtained. Charged generalizations of these solutions are given by coupling to Born-Infeld electrodynamics.Article Analytic Hierarchy Process in Determining Aircraft Basic Maintenance Training Durations(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2026) Acikel, Gurkan; Temel, Mine Alemdaroglu; Alemdaroğlu Temel, MinePurpose - Currently, in aircraft basic maintenance training, it is determined that various aircraft basic maintenance training organizations around the world apply different basic maintenance durations for the same modules of the same licence categories. Aircraft basic maintenance training organizations are lacking a common curriculum with standard durations for the basic maintenance training modules. To remedy the problems associated with this issue, the purpose of this study is to develop and demonstrate a quantifiable reference (i.e. theoretical training and evaluation content intensity) based scientific theoretical method to determine the durations of the basic theoretical maintenance trainings held for B1.1 and B2 licence categories in aircraft basic maintenance training organizations. Design/methodology/approach - The total basic maintenance training duration was first allocated to basic, theoretical and practical maintenance trainings. The obtained basic theoretical maintenance training duration was then allocated to related modules and submodules by using weighted theoretical training content intensity and weighted theoretical evaluation content intensity, which were obtained by applying a multi-criteria decision-making approach using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Findings - In this study, it was found that there is no standardization upon aircraft basic maintenance training organizations for the allocation of the basic maintenance training durations to modules. To remedy this problem, a scientific method, which relies on quantifiable reference bases rather than subjective reasoning, is needed. The reference bases of the proposed theoretical method (i.e. theoretical training and evaluation content intensity) can be tuned with the inclusion of the effect of basic knowledge requirements through multi-criteria decision-making (AHP). The theoretical method proposed in this work is robust in terms of resulting in close proximity values of the basic theoretical maintenance training durations for the common modules of B1.1 and B2 licence categories. The theoretical method is proven to yield greater basic theoretical maintenance training durations for modules having greater theoretical training and evaluation content intensity and lower basic theoretical maintenance training durations for modules having less theoretical training and evaluation content intensity. A distinct similarity in terms of basic theoretical maintenance training durations and the ranking of the modules (in terms of durations) is not present when the average of the training organizations is compared to the results of the theoretical method. A quantifiable reference (i.e. theoretical training and evaluation content intensity) based scientific theoretical method to determine basic theoretical maintenance training durations was developed and demonstrated. Practical implications - Results of this study would especially be useful in an international effort to standardize the different basic theoretical maintenance training durations applied in various aircraft basic maintenance training organizations. Originality/value - To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is the first in providing and demonstrating a scientific theoretical method based on a systematic, multi-criteria decision-making approach to determine the durations of the basic theoretical maintenance trainings.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 4Stress, Coping, and Social Media Use(IGI Global, 2022) Demirtepe-Saygılı, D.Social media has become a part of people’s lives and many psychological processes are suggested to be related with social media use. This chapter examines social media use from a stress and coping perspective. Social media can be a stressor for users with the content of posts they see, with a fear of negative evaluation, as an unhealthy attachment to social media accounts, and as a result of cyberbullying. Social media use can also be a problem-focused coping as a source of information, an emotion-focused coping as a distraction, and a source of social support. Lastly, it can be a predictor or a part of well-being as well as a moderator or mediator between coping and well-being. After elaborating on social media use as a part of the coping process, implications for research and practice are discussed. The key points from a coping viewpoint are specified for users, parents, teachers, and professionals. While problematic use of social media can be part of dysfunctional coping and a worse well-being, healthy use can help individuals deal with stresses and lead to a better well-being. © 2022 by IGI Global.
