    The Relationship Between Operational Efficiency and Financial Efficiency in the Shipping Industry: An Example From Privatized Ports in Türkiye

    Since the ports are the backbone of international trade they need to be managed efficiently. This study addresses to analyze the operational and financial efficiency of the selected privatized ports that have been belonged to TCDD (Republic of T & uuml;rkiye State Railways). For this purpose, EATWOS (Efficiency Analysis Technique with Output Satisfying) method is employed, and the weights of the inputs and outputs are determined using LOPCOW (Logarithmic Percentage Change-Driven Objective Weighting), MEREC (Method Based on the Removal Effects of Criteria), and CRITIC (Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation) methods. After obtaining the weights from these objective methods, the comprehensive weights are calculated using TPOP (Technique of Precise Order Preference) method. Finally, Spearman's rank-order correlation shows that there is no relationship between the operational and financial efficiency of the ports. The number of studies that address both operational and financial efficiency of ports is limited, and this study distinguishes itself by investigating the relationship between both efficiency types.

    The Dark Side of Proactive Behaviors and Blind Spot Management

    Proactive behavior, which should be anticipatory and agentic, can be defined as actions focused on certain behaviors aimed at improving job performance, career success, and employee well-being. Even if organizational citizenship behaviors have been frequently characterized as proactive behaviors, this is not true under every condition, as they may be either reactive or passive. Although proactive behavior among employees has been widely studied because of the importance that organizations place on improving performance and effectiveness, the potential and possible negative outcomes of such behavior have often been ignored. Examining and discovering the potential negative implications of proactive behaviors and formulating strategies to manage blind spots are vital for developing a general understanding of proactive behaviors for both employees and firms. The intention of this study is to conduct a literature review on proactive behaviors by focusing on the dark side and blind spots of proactive behaviors.     Online Social Networking and Romantic Relationships

    With the increased popularity of social media, social networking sites (SNSs) have received the attention of many scholars. In particular, researchers have focused on the impact of SNSs on interpersonal relationships. Accordingly, this chapter provides an overview of the extant literature concerning associations between the use of SNSs and romantic relationships. It provides empirical evidence on how social networking behaviors are influenced by adult attachment styles, and how social networking influences relationship constructs such as satisfaction, commitment, jealousy, and relationship dissolution. Furthermore, it presents previous research that emphasizes gender as a moderator in these relations. This chapter overall contributes to researchers and professionals in providing information on online social networking and emphasizing key romantic relationship constructs related to the use of SNSs.     Psychological Benefits and Detrimental Effects of Online Social Networking

    With the growing prevalence of wireless communication technologies, social networking sites (SNSs) such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. have become an important venues for interpersonal communication. This chapter provides a detailed overview of the current literature on online social networking with respect to its beneficial and detrimental effects on psychological wellbeing. In particular, it provides empirical evidence for the associations of SNS use with depression, self-esteem, loneliness, subjective wellbeing, social anxiety, attachment, personality traits, and addiction. Furthermore, it identifies the characteristics of individuals who are more prone to social networking, and presents possible mediators and moderators playing a role in the relationship between social networking and mental health.     A computer-controlled triaxial swelling test apparatus

    To avoid the problems encountered during and after the construction of engineering structures built within swelling rocks or soils, data related to swelling stresses and strains should be used in the design stage. For an effective design, it is important that the data used for this purpose should be derived from triaxial swelling tests. In this article, a re-designed and computer-controlled triaxial swelling test apparatus is introduced. Due to the limited amount of test equipment, the work associated with triaxial swelling tests has been rather limited and consequently a test standard has not been developed yet. The computer-controlled triaxial swelling test apparatus has made tedious swelling tests easier and thus it has provided better possibilities for the investigation of the triaxial swelling behavior of soils and rocks.

    Examining the Effects of Blogger Type (Influencers Vs. Celebrities) and Post Format in Instagram Marketing

    In the era where credibility of advertisements is decreasing and people are spending more time in social media compared to traditional channels, it is no surprise that marketing professionals employ social media as a new channel for communication. In this new media for communication, the conventional advertising techniques are also coupled with alternating methods such as product placements. In the light of these relatively new applications, the purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of marketing communications in social media under different message sources (celebrities vs. influencers) and with different message presentations. In order to serve that purpose, a 2X2 between subjects experiment is modelled with 399 respondents. The results show that a product is better advertised by an influencer rather than a celebrity and type of the blog post had no significant impact on the purchase intention. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.

    Catalyst-Free Synthesis of Thiourea-Linked Dumbbell-Shaped POSS for Ultrasensitive Determination of Prilocaine in Human Blood with Computational Insights

    Although various electrochemical sensors have been reported for the determination of local anesthetic drugs, most existing platforms suffer from limited sensitivity, insufficient surface stability, or inadequate electron-transfer efficiency, particularly when applied to complex biological matrices. Moreover, the potential of hybrid polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-based nanostructures combined with metal oxide nanoparticles for improving electroanalytical performance has not yet been thoroughly explored. In this study, a high-sensitivity electrochemical nanosensor was developed for the determination of prilocaine (PC), an amide-type local anesthetic, using a glassy carbon (GC) electrode modified with POSS‑titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (Nps). The combination of modifications provided a unique electrode surface by combining the high stability of POSS with the strong adsorption properties of TiO2 Nps, thereby increasing both surface loading and adsorption capacity. To elucidate the structure of the modification combination, 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic techniques, as well as Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) analysis techniques were used, respectively. The analytical performance of the developed nanosensor was systematically optimized using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), adsorptive stripping differential pulse voltammetry (AdSDPV), square wave voltammetry (SWV), and adsorptive stripping square wave voltammetry (AdSSWV) techniques. As a result of the optimization studies, the lowest limit of detection (LOD) was 3.66 × 10−8 M with the AdSSWV technique. DFT results corroborated the mechanism, indicating ring-centered electron donation (HOMO) and adsorption-favored N/O regions (MEP). Low LOD values were also recorded with other techniques, demonstrating the method's high sensitivity in analyte detection. In real sample analysis tests, PC recovery value in human blood samples was determined to be 98.69% using the AdSDPV technique. Despite the matrix effect, the nanosensor demonstrated high accuracy and reproducibility. The results indicate that the developed POSS-TiO2 Nps modified GC electrode sensor offers a high-performance, reliable, and good electrochemical detection platform suitable for use in biological and clinical applications. © 2024
