Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 2New Wavelet-Based Features for the Recognition of Jittered and Stagger Pri Modulation Types;(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2015) Gencol,K.; Kara,A.; At,N.In dense electronic warfare environments, numerous emitters can be active simultaneously and an interleaved stream of pulses in natural time of arrival order is received by the Electronic Support Measures (ESM) receiver. It is the task of the ESM system to de-interleave this mixed pulse sequence and thus to identify the surrounding threatening emitters. In this processing, pulse repetition interval (PRI) modulation recognition has a significant role due to the fact that it can reveal the hidden patterns inside pulse repetition intervals and thus help identify the emission source and its functional purpose. In this paper, we propose new wavelet-based features for the recognition of jittered and stagger PRI modulation types. The recognition of these types are heavily based on histogram features. Experimental results show that the proposed feature set have very high recognition rates and outperform histogram based methods. © 2015 IEEE.Conference Object Simulation Based Surgical Education Programs and Hand Performance;(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017) Eyuboglu,B.G.; Topalli,D.; Cagiltay,N.E.; Tonbul,G.The performance of the left- and right-hands of a person may be different from each other. In general, people use one hand with a superior performance compared to the other hand where that hand is preferred for performing daily activities. It is critical to understand their preference for right or left hand use, especially in cases where the skills should be improved to use both hands precisely in activities required special abilities such as endoscopic surgical operations. A better understanding of these cases will improve the quality of existing surgical education programs, and make a major contribution specifically in designing, improving and managing of simulation-based instructional technologies. In this study, the right- and left-hand preferences (handedness) of people are analyzed from the literature and a simulation-based experimental study is conducted in order to examine the performance differences of the participants while using their right and left hands. The results of this study aimed to guide the curriculum designers and instructional system developers for better designing and developing simulation-based surgical education programs. © 2016 IEEE.Conference Object Neuronavigation systems and passive usage problem;(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017) Cagiltay,N.; Topalli,D.; Borcek,A.O.; Tokdemir,G.; Maras,H.; Tonbul,G.; Aydin,E.Nowadays, neuronavigation systems are used in brain surgery procedures, known as a technology to help the surgeon during the operational period. However, the surgeons have faced several problems with the existing systems. Some of these problems are related to the systems software and user interfaces. In this study, such problems are examined and the 'Passive Usage' term is added to the literature by establishing a connection between the problems of endoscopic surgical procedures and similar issues occurred in other domains. The passive usage problem is generalized on different domains for the first time with this study. The results of the study expected to gather up the similar passive usage problems experienced in different domains. Accordingly, the methodologies and studies that are conducted in different research areas may lead to eliminate the Passive Usage problems efficiently. © 2016 IEEE.Conference Object Segmentation of Isolated Words Into Voiced-Unvoiced Sound Components by Kurtosis;(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2015) Uslu,B.; Tora, Hakan; Tora,H.; Tora, Hakan; Airframe and Powerplant Maintenance; Airframe and Powerplant MaintenanceThis study presents a new approach to the segmentation of isolated words into their voiced/ unvoiced parts. It is well known that voiced/ unvoiced discrimination has an important role in speech synthesis and coding applications. The offered method makes this discrimination using the kurtosis values of the words. The performance of the proposed approach was tested on Turkish digit recordings from zero to nine. It has been observed that this approach segments the parts successfully in not only clean speech but also in noisy speech. © 2015 IEEE.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 3Gender Prediction by Using Local Binary Pattern and K Nearest Neighbor and Discriminant Analysis Classifications;(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2016) Camalan,S.; Sengul,G.In this study, gender prediction is investigated for the face images. To extract the features of the images, Local Binary Pattern (LBP) is used with its different parameters. To classify the images male or female, K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) and Discriminant Analysis (DA) methods are used. Their performances according to the LBP parameters are compared. Also classification methods' parameters are changed and the comparison results are shown. These methods are applied on FERET database with 530 female and 731 male images. To have better performance, the face parts of the images are cropped then feature extraction and classification methods applied on the face part of the images. © 2016 IEEE.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 2Detecting Errors in Automatic Image Captioning by Deep Learning;(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2021) Karakaya,M.Automatic tagging of images is an important researcli topic in tlie field of image processing. Anotlier area similar to this is the automatic generation of picture captions. In this study, a deep learning model that automatically tags the pictures is used to detect errors in image captions. As a result of the initial experiments, it is observed that the proposed system can find up to 80% of the errors in the image captions. © 2021 IEEEConference Object Citation - Scopus: 1Multiple Underwater Target Bearing Tracking Using Member Filter;(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Gunes,A.; Guldogan,M.B.Underwater acoustic vector sensors (AVS) are devices which can measure scalar pressure and three dimensional acceleration or particle velocity with only one sensor. By using these four measurements, target detection and tracking is possible. In case multiple targets exist, multi-target detection and tracking methods must be applied. Because these methods are more general, the algorithms are more involved and complex. In this framework, multi-target multi-Bernoulli (MeMBer) is a promising filter based on random finite sets (RFS) for multi-target tracking problems. In this work, for the first time in the literature, MeMBer filter is analyzed using a single underwater acoustic vector sensor in a scenario including two targets. Simulation results indicate that MeMBer filter can successfully track the targets. © 2018 IEEE.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 8Parking space occupancy detection using deep learning methods;(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Akinci,F.C.; Karakaya,M.This paper presents an approach for gathering information about the availabilty of the parking lots using Convoltional Neural Network (CNN) for image processing running on an embedded system. By using an eflicent neural network model, we made it possible to use a very low cost embedded system compared to the ones used in previous works on this topic. This efficient model's performance is compared to one of the models that proved its accuracy in image classification competitions. In these tests, we used datasets that has thousands of different images taken from parking lots in different light and weather conditions. © 2018 IEEE.Conference Object Microstrip Antennas for Wimax Applications;(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2015) Demirci,T.; Caliskan,F.; Aydin,E.In this paper, four different antenna types have been designed to be used for WiMAX applications. These antennas have been designed using HFSS simulation software. This paper has included the return loss and the radiation pattern of the designed antennas. Using the simulation results, it is shown that these four antennas are working on Wi-Fi and WiMAX frequency ranges. © 2015 IEEE.Conference Object Comparative Analysis Of Patch Antennas With Rectangular Slots For Laminate And Wearable Materials At 5g Networks(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2024) Hakanoglu, B.G.; Agaya, E.; Gulmez, G.; Yalinsu, S.In this study, new multi-band patch antenna design models are proposed for use in 5G networks. The purpose of the designs is to open rectangular slots on rectangular shaped patch antennas and bring them to the desired operating conditions with parametric analyzes. The designs were carried out by following the same procedure steps using five different dielectric laminate substrate materials, such as RO3003, RT6006, FR4, RO3203, RO6010, and one denim fabric base material. The antennas were compared in terms of return loss, gain and radiation characteristics. Except for the antenna designed with RO3203 at certain values of rectangular slots, radiation at multiple frequencies was obtained at 5G frequencies. With the proposed method, improvement was observed for return loss and bandwidth characteristics in the RO3203 based antenna. This study will be a resource for antenna researchers by revealing the responses of different substrate materials to the same design method for 5G bands in patch antennas. © 2024 IEEE.
