    Adoption of Mobile Applications for Teaching-Learning Process in Rural Girls' Schools in India: an Empirical Study

    The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that can impact the adoption of mobile apps for teaching-learning process focusing on the girls' school in rural India. The hypotheses were proposed and a conceptual model has been developed. There is a survey work conducted to collect the data from different respondents using a convenience sampling method. The model has been validated statistically through PLS-SEM analysis covering feedbacks of 271 effective respondents. The study highlights the impact of different antecedents of the behavioural intention of the students of using mobile applications for teaching-learning process. The results also show that among other issues, price value has insignificant influence on the intention of the girl students of the rural India. During survey feedbacks have been obtained from the 271 respondents, which is meagre compared to vastness of the population and school of rural India. Only few predictors have been considered leaving possibilities of inclusion of other boundary conditions to enhance the explanative power more than that has been achieved in the proposed model with the explanative power of 81%. The model has provided laudable inputs to the educational policy makers and technology enablers and administrators to understand the impact of the mobile applications on the rural girls' school of India and facilitate the development of m-learning. Very few studies been conducted to explore the impact of mobile applications on the school education of rural India especially focusing on the girls' schools.

    Strategies and Guidelines for Building Effective Distributed Learning Teams in Higher Education

    The paper describes the strategies and guidelines for building effective global student teams based on the experiences obtained from six global software development projects involving 438 students from the universities in the US, Panama, UK, and Turkey. According to the findings obtained from these projects, the factors affecting online collaboration and the problems faced during management of projects are given in the paper. It is hoped that these findings will help to instructors to design and manage globally distributed student teams. The paper also provides guidelines for students to become a good team player. ©2010 IEEE.

    Principles for the Design of a Remote Laboratory: a Case Study on Errl

    Remote laboratories are getting very popular in engineering education programs. However, there are not many studies addressing the requirements and design issues of such laboratories. This paper discusses the results of a study of the requirements for developing a remote Radio Frequency (RF) laboratory for university students. This study draws on the perspectives of the students at the university, department of electrical engineering. The results are based on a research study established by 111 engineering students from France, Germany, Romania and Turkey. It investigates how students would like to use the technical content of a state of the art RF laboratory. The result of this study is also compared with the previous outcomes showing perspectives of the other learner groups of such laboratories; engineers and technicians in the technical colleges on the Radio Frequency (RF) domain. Considering the outcomes developed so far, some principles that need to be considered while designing and developing such a laboratory have been proposed. As a case study the proposed principles are implemented in a remote laboratory project. In this paper, the details of user requirements of such laboratories, the proposed principles and the implementation examples are all provided and discussed. Primarily, the general aim of this study is to guide remote laboratory platform developers towards the most effective design of their platforms. © 2010 IEEE.
