Article Citation - WoS: 18Citation - Scopus: 19Subacute Thyroiditis Related To Sars-Cov Vaccine and Covid-19 (thyrovac Study): a Multicenter Nationwide Study(Endocrine Soc, 2023) Batman, Adnan; Yazici, Dilek; Dikbas, Oguz; Agbaht, Kemal; Saygili, Emre Sedar; Demirci, Ibrahim; Sahin, MustafaContext The aims of the study are to compare characteristics of subacute thyroiditis (SAT) related to different etiologies, and to identify predictors of recurrence of SAT and incident hypothyroidism. Methods This nationwide, multicenter, retrospective cohort study included 53 endocrinology centers in Turkey. The study participants were divided into either COVID-19-related SAT (Cov-SAT), SARS-CoV-2 vaccine-related SAT (Vac-SAT), or control SAT (Cont-SAT) groups. Results Of the 811 patients, 258 (31.8%) were included in the Vac-SAT group, 98 (12.1%) in the Cov-SAT group, and 455 (56.1%) in the Cont-SAT group. No difference was found between the groups with regard to laboratory and imaging findings. SAT etiology was not an independent predictor of recurrence or hypothyroidism. In the entire cohort, steroid therapy requirement and younger age were statistically significant predictors for SAT recurrence. C-reactive protein measured during SAT onset, female sex, absence of antithyroid peroxidase (TPO) positivity, and absence of steroid therapy were statistically significant predictors of incident (early) hypothyroidism, irrespective of SAT etiology. On the other hand, probable predictors of established hypothyroidism differed from that of incident hypothyroidism. Conclusion Since there is no difference in terms of follow-up parameters and outcomes, COVID-19- and SARS-CoV-2 vaccine-related SAT can be treated and followed up like classic SATs. Recurrence was determined by younger age and steroid therapy requirement. Steroid therapy independently predicts incident hypothyroidism that may sometimes be transient in overall SAT and is also associated with a lower risk of established hypothyroidism. Book Part The Invisibles: The Case of the Seasonal Agricultural Workers of Turkey From a Non-Discrimination Perspective(Springer International Publishing, 2022) Gençoglu,F.; Gençoğlu, Funda; Fistikçi,A.C.; Gençoğlu, Funda; Political Science and Public Administration; Political Science and Public AdministrationAbove are the famous first words of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) establishing, decades ago, the basic premises of the international human rights law. As the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recognizes, however, discrimination undermines a true fulfillment of these premises and “the fight against discrimination remains a daily struggle for millions around the globe. For millions of people globally, the struggle to extract themselves from situations of discrimination at almost every turn in their daily lives is an impossible ambition” (OHCHR 2009). © The Editor(s)(if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.Conference Object An Overview of Challenges To Long-Term Sustainability and Scalability of Radio Frequency Fingerprinting(IEEE, 2024) Demiroglu, Harun Senol; Awan, Maaz Ali; Kara, AliInternet of Things (IoT) technology has become ubiquitous with a broad spectrum of applications. This vast penetration entails formidable cyber-security for the stable operation of the associated systems. Most inexpensive IoT devices employ rudimentary cryptographic security mechanisms due to their resource-limited architecture. Radio frequency fingerprinting (RFF) is a physical layer security mechanism that leverages hardware impairments for authentication and device classification. To this end, its scope has been limited to academia owing to daunting challenges. In this work, an abridged overview of the state-of-the-art is provided, along with a summary of the challenges that hinder progress toward practical applications. The article culminates with a discussion on the intricacies of performance metrics in RFF and the direction for future research.Article Covıd-19’un Suriyeli Mülteciler İçin Yarattığı Çok Boyutlu Zorluklar: Ankara Vaka Çalışması(2022) Özdemir, Zelal; Dogangun, Gokten; Keysan, Asuman ÖzgürCOVID-19 küresel salgını tüm dünyayı etkilese de mevcut çalışmalar sınıf, yaş, toplumsal cinsiyet, sağlık durumu, engel durumu, göçmenlik, ikamet, etnisite gibi kimlik kategorilerinin bireylerin deneyimlerini farklılaştırdığını göstermektedir. Article Local Government Reform in the Ottoman and Russian Empires During the 19th Century: a Comparative Analysis of the Zemstvo Law and the 1864 Vilayet Nizamnamesi(Ankara Haci Bayram Veli Univ, 2022) Yıgıt, AsliThe 19th century modernization process of the Ottoman and Russian Empires initiated a comprehensive reform movement in both states. As a result of the Crimean War that broke out in the middle of the 19th century, making administrative arrangements to ensure economic prosperity became the primary target in the both empires, which were afraid of the pressure and intervention of European states. Thus, in the 19th century, in the Ottoman and Russian Empires, a number of administrative arrangements were made in local governments within the framework of effective management. On one hand, they adopted the understanding of expanding the activity and jurisdiction of their local administrations, on the other hand, the both empires aimed to strengthen the central government. This study aims to reveal the local government reform brought to the provincial organization by the 1864 Vilayet Nizamnamesi in the Ottoman Empire and the 1864 Zemstvo Law in the Russian Empire and to make a comparative analysis of both regula-tions in terms of historical background, content, scope and effectiveness.Article Magnetic Resonance Arthrographic Demonstration of Extension of Labral Defects in Paraglenoid Labral Cysts(Assoc Medica Brasileira, 2023) Kaya, Serhat; Ogul, Hayri; Koksal, Ali; Koru, Ahmet; Kiziloglu, Alper; Kantarci, MecitOBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the extension of labral tears associated with paraglenoid labral cysts by magnetic resonance arthrography. METHODS: The magnetic resonance and magnetic resonance arthrography images of patients with paraglenoid labral cysts who presented to our clinic between 2016 and 2018 were examined. In patients with paraglenoid labral cysts, the location of the cysts, the relation between the cyst and the labrum, the location and extent of glenoid labrum damage, and whether there was contrast medium passage into the cysts were investigated. The accuracy of magnetic resonance arthrographic information was evaluated in patients undergoing arthroscopy. RESULTS: In this prospective study, a paraglenoid labral cyst was detected in 20 patients. In 16 patients, there was a defect in the labrum adjacent to the cyst. Seven of these cysts were adjacent to the posterior superior labrum. In 13 patients, there were contrast solution leak into the cyst. For the remaining seven patients, no contrast-medium passage was observed in the cyst. Three patients had sublabral recess anomalies. Two patients had rotator cuff muscle denervation atrophy accompanying the cysts. The cysts of these patients were larger compared to those of the other patients. CONCLUSION: Paraglenoid labral cysts are frequently associated with the rupture of the adjacent labrum. In these patients, symptoms are generally accompanied by secondary labral pathologies. Magnetic resonance arthrography can be successfully used not only to demonstrate the association of the cyst with the joint capsule and labrum, but also to reliably demonstrate the presence and extension of labral defects.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 5Numerical Investigation of Store Separation From Cavity Problems at High Speeds(Sage Publications Ltd, 2023) Abuhanieh, Saleh; Akay, Hasan U.In this work, the ability of open-source CFD tools to conduct store separation simulations from cavities is evaluated and validated using a generic test case from the literature. Firstly, the ability and accuracy of these tools for solving cavity flows at high speeds are evaluated. Secondly, their competence in predicting the trajectory of a generic store from a generic deep cavity is checked. Finally, and in order to reduce the associated computational costs, a release-time dependability factor from the recent literature is studied and evaluated. The obtained results using the selected open-source CFD tools matched quite well with the wind tunnel results. Furthermore, the results show that predicting the release-time dependability using a quantified index/factor can be a potential remedy for reducing the computational cost for this type of CFD simulations.Article Mesâi-i Lisâniye ve Cenab Şahabeddin(2023) Nurdan, Gülçin TuğbaThis study considers the article titled \"Mesâi-i Lisâniye\" written by Cenab Şahabeddin in the first issue of Darülfünun Literature Magazine, which was started to be published in March 1916 under Istanbul Darülfünun control. The original of the text is three and a half pages. It is included in the appendices of the study. Within the framework of this article, language issues of Cenab Şahabeddin and the period were emphasized. When we look at the Servet-i Period, it is quite remarkable that the language has a lot of foreign words due to the lack of lexicon. In this article, Cenab Şahabeddin focuses on how essential it is to establish a language institution. For this, Cenab Şahabeddin, who recommends the establishment of language committees and working in a systematic way, also emphasizes that these language issues should be based on education. As a result, Cenab Şahabeddin underlines the importance of the language issue and points that this issue should be dealt with great care in every aspect. In his article, he made various suggestions to achive this. In this context, it is possible to evaluate this attitude of Cenab Şahabeddin as quite prograssive for his period.
