Regarding its usage in food products, there is a need to investigate its possible interactions with DNA. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the interactions of melamine and its metabolized products, cyanuric acid and uric acid with genomic DNA, isolated from eukaryotic (calf thymus) and prokaryotic (Staphylococcus aureus) sources. UV-absorbance spectrophotometry, fluorescence spectrophotometry, and agarose gel electrophoresis techniques were used to evaluate these interactions. The five different concentrations of melamine, cyanuric acid, and uric acid were incubated with fixed DNA concentration and it was determined that the test compounds interacted with the DNA molecules. The data obtained by UV-absorbance and fluorescence spectrophotometry techniques revealed an increase in wave peaks observed with the increasing substance concentration. After the obtained data of the aforementioned techniques were evaluated together, it was concluded that melamine, cyanuric acid, and uric acid bonded to the eukaryotic and prokaryotic genomic DNA materials via groove binding.Article Citation - WoS: 6A Light Bulb in Every House the Istanbul General Electric Factory and American Technology Transfer To Turkey(Johns Hopkins Univ Press, 2022) Tunc, Tanfer Emin; Tunc, GokhanIn 1946, Turkish entrepreneur Vehbi Koc signed an agreement with the U.S. firm General Electric to build and operate its first light bulb factory in the Near/Middle East, in Istanbul. This private joint venture introduced new manufacturing techniques, business practices, and consumer habits to Turkey, opening channels of postwar technological exchange. Closer examination of the GE-Koc partnership reveals that during the early Cold War, the transfer and embedding of American technologies in Turkey was a politically complicated process of innovation that required constant adaptation. Fraught with unforeseeable obstacles, it also required cautious negotiation with multiple transnational actors. The story of the GE-Koc partnership thus adds a new dimension to historical understandings of the Turkish Cold War experience and the Americanization of the region. It uses periodic 3D beam finite element (FE) models derived from skeletonization of spinodal-like stochastic microstructures produced by a leveled random field. To mimic stiffening with agglomeration of the mass at junctions, an increased Young's modulus is assigned to the elements within the junction zone. The effective Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, and universal anisotropy index are computed. A good agreement of the Young's modulus predictions with those obtained from experimental results for phase volume fractions 0.20 < phi(B) < 0.50 is observed. Moreover, the elastic anisotropy index of the generated beam networks shows sufficient proximity to isotropy. M.; Azizi, K.; Sarac, Y.; Sundu, H.We explore the recently observed Xi(b)(6227)(-) resonance to fix its quantum numbers. To this end, we consider various possible scenarios: It can be considered as either a 1P or 2S excitation of the Xi(b) and Xi'(b)(5935) ground-state baryons with spin-1/2 or the 1P or 2S excitation of the ground-state Xi(b)(5955) with spin-3/2. We calculate the masses of the possible angular-orbital 1P and 2S excited states corresponding to each channel employing the QCD sum rule technique. It is seen that all the obtained masses are in agreement with the experimentally observed value, implying that the mass calculations are not enough to determine the quantum numbers of the state under question. Therefore, we extend the analysis to investigate the possible decays of the excited states into Lambda K-b(0)- and Xi(-)(b) pi. Using the light cone QCD sum rule method, we calculate the corresponding strong coupling constants, which are used to extract the decay widths of the modes under consideration. By using the results of this code an analysis employing "Design of Experiments" (DoE) is performed to determine the most effective input parameters and/or interactions on the scramjet performance. The results showed that most effective input parameter for all of the selected parameters is fuel/air ratio. Selected parameters are evaluated first individually then simultaneously. The purpose of evaluating the performance parameters simultaneously is to determine the input parameter set which gives the highest values of specific impulse and overall efficiency while giving the lowest value of combustion chamber exit temperature. A total of 84 nursing students participated in the study. Data were obtained using a Semi-Structured Questionnaire Form, Student Satisfaction Evaluation Form, Effective Communication Skills Checklist, Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and Skills Evaluation Form for Postpartum Bleeding Management. We suggest that the use of different simulation methods may be effective in improving the knowledge and skills of nursing students in the management of postpartum hemorrhage.
