A New Mixed Δ-Shock Model With a Change in Shock Distribution
(Springer, 2023) Chadjiconstantinidis, Stathis; Tuncel, Altan; Eryilmaz, Serkan
In this paper, reliability properties of a system that is subject to a sequence of shocks are investigated under a particular new change point model. According to the model, a change in the distribution of the shock magnitudes occurs upon the occurrence of a shock that is above a certain critical level. The system fails when the time between successive shocks is less than a given threshold, or the magnitude of a single shock is above a critical threshold. The survival function of the system is studied under both cases when the times between shocks follow discrete distribution and when the times between shocks follow continuous distribution. Matrix-based expressions are obtained for matrix-geometric discrete intershock times and for matrix-exponential continuous intershock times, as well.

Exploring the Communication Behaviour Among Global Software Development Learners
(inderscience Enterprises Ltd, 2011) Serce, Fatma Cemile; Swigger, Kathleen M.; Alpaslan, Ferda Nur; Brazile, Robert; Dafoulas, George; Lopez-Cabrera, Victor
This study examines communication behaviours in global software learning teams. Using a coding scheme developed in previous research (Curtis and Lawson, 2001), the paper characterises communication behaviours of students engaged in a software development project. The paper reports the results of two pilot projects done with students in USA, England, Turkey and Panama. Through content analysis we identify distinct patterns of interactions and examine how these patterns are associated with task, culture, or performance. Our results suggest that communication patterns among global software learners may be related to task type, culture and levels of performance.

Computation of a Tunable Slot-Loaded Equilateral Triangular Microstrip Antenna
    (Vsp Bv, 2009) Aydin, E.
In this paper, a simple closed form expression is developed to accurately estimate the lower and upper operating frequencies of a single feed slot loaded triangular patch (SLTP) with variations of the bent slot lengths. It is obtained by using cavity model analysis and useful to antenna engineers for accurately predicting both operating resonant frequencies of the SLTP. The theory is compared with the experimental results available in the literature, and excellent agreement is observed. The proposed computation is also extended to the analysis of tunability of the SLTP as a function of the air-gap height.

Installation and Performance of the 3rd Veto Plane at the SND@LHC Detector
    (IOP Publishing Ltd, 2025) Abbaneo, D.; Acampora, G.; Ahmad, S.; Albanese, R.; Alexandrov, A.; Alicante, F.; Zamora Saa, J.
During 2022/2023 the optimal inefficiency of the Veto system of the SND@LHC detector was measured to be (7.8 +/- 2.8) x 10(-8). To reduce this inefficiency, a third Veto plane was installed during the 2023-2024 Year End Technical Stop. In addition, the Veto system was lowered to cover the target fully, thereby increasing acceptance. This paper describes how the inefficiency of the Veto system was reduced from (7.8 +/- 2.8) x 10(-8) with an acceptance of about 64% of the target area in 2022-2023 to (4.9 +/- 1.9) x 10(-9) on the full area in 2024.

Fear of Missing Out, Internet Addiction and Their Relationship To Psychological Symptoms
(Turkish Green Crescent Soc, 2020) Orta, İrem Metin
Internet addiction has become one of the most important problems of today's youth and received considerableattention from scholars. Research demonstrated significant impairments in psychological and social functioning among internet dependents. Given this, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship betweenfear of missing out (FoMO), internet addiction, and psychological symptoms. Based on research demonstratingthat FoMO, the pervasive anxiety associated with the feeling that one is missing out others’ satisfying experiences, increases social media engagement, it was expected that FoMO would relate to internet addiction, whichin turn would be linked to poor psychological well-being. The sample consisted of 322 undergraduate studentswho filled out items measuring FoMO, internet addiction and psychological symptoms. The regression analysisrevealed that internet addiction acts as a mediator in the link between FoMO and psychological symptoms. That is, the participants’ greater FoMO is linked to higher levels of psychological symptoms both directly andindirectly through a higher level of internet addiction. Overall, the present study provides an insight into ourunderstanding of the psychological and behavioral aspects of internet addiction, and thus, makes an importantcontribution to the promotion of mental health.

The Battle of Kars During the Russo-Turkish War (1877- 1878) in V. P. Meshcherskiy's 'caucasian Travel Diary'
(İstanbul University Faculty of Letters, 2021) Gülseven,A.Y.; International Relations
Travel notes and memoirs contain many contents that fill the gaps in official history, and are thus precious material for historians as primary sources. This study aims to explore the historical context of the Battle of Kars during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 by focusing on Vladimir Petrovich Meshcherskiy's travel notes and memoirs on the trip from Moscow to Kars during the war in 1877. Although there is a vast literature on the course and consequences of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, we have little first-hand information from the field to fill the gaps in our knowledge of the developments during and aftermath of the Kars attack. Meshcherskiy's travel diary does not only provide us with a close-up view of the Eastern front of the Russo-Turkish War, but it also sheds light on the attitude of the local people under the Russian siege. Although this diary provides a rich source of information from the viewpoint of Meshcherskiy, a prominent Russian journalist and novelist, it has never been used in the academic literature on the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. © Turkish Journal of History 2021.

A Key To the "democratic Opening": Rethinking Citizenship, Ethnicity and Turkish Nation-State
(Seta Foundation, 2010) Koker, Levent; Law
This article focuses on the ongoing process of transition in Turkey from a "homogeneous national identity", which produced a notion of "equality as sameness", to a "multiculturalist democracy" that requires a new constitutional system that has a conception of "equality in difference". The organization of this paper is as follows: First a brief evaluation of the Kemalist foundations of the Republic will be provided to establish how the official ideology in Turkey conceives of state-society relations. An evaluation of the persistence of this official ideology under the multiparty political system is provided in the second part. The final part of the paper concentrates on the rising public presence of the Kurdish problem, which is forcing Turkish politics to change its constitutional identity, most notably aided by the process of change driven by EU reforms. The article concludes with a call for the inevitability of a radical change in Turkish constitutional identity to include a public recognition of multiculturalism through an acceptance of linguistic and other cultural rights, but leaves open the question of how this change will be realized.

İKİ KATMANLI DOLU BİR SİLİNDİRİN ELASTİK DAVRANIŞININ FARKLI UÇ VE SINIR KOŞULLARI İÇİN ANALİTİK OLARAK İNCELENMESİ
(Turkish Soc thermal Sciences Technology, 2020) Akış, Tolga; Eraslan, Ahmet N.

An Investigation on the Dna Binding Activities of Melamine, Cyanuric Acid and Uric Acid
(Editura Acad Romane, 2021) Senol, Ali; Devrim, Alparslan Kadir; Sudagidan, Mert; Ozalp, Veli Cengiz
Melamine can be added to various foods such as milk, milk powder, baby food, pet, and livestock feed for cheating purposes due to its high nitrogen content. Regarding its usage in food products, there is a need to investigate its possible interactions with DNA. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the interactions of melamine and its metabolized products, cyanuric acid and uric acid with genomic DNA, isolated from eukaryotic (calf thymus) and prokaryotic (Staphylococcus aureus) sources. UV-absorbance spectrophotometry, fluorescence spectrophotometry, and agarose gel electrophoresis techniques were used to evaluate these interactions. The five different concentrations of melamine, cyanuric acid, and uric acid were incubated with fixed DNA concentration and it was determined that the test compounds interacted with the DNA molecules. The data obtained by UV-absorbance and fluorescence spectrophotometry techniques revealed an increase in wave peaks observed with the increasing substance concentration. After the obtained data of the aforementioned techniques were evaluated together, it was concluded that melamine, cyanuric acid, and uric acid bonded to the eukaryotic and prokaryotic genomic DNA materials via groove binding.

Component Importance in Coherent Systems With Exchangeable Components
(Cambridge Univ Press, 2015) Eryilmaz, Serkan
This paper is concerned with the Birnbaum importance measure of a component in a binary coherent system. A representation for the Birnbaum importance of a component is obtained when the system consists of exchangeable dependent components. The results are closely related to the concept of the signature of a coherent system. Some examples are presented to illustrate the results.
