Conference Object Citation - WoS: 10Production of Anorthite From Kaolinite and Caco3 Via Colemanite(Trans Tech Publications Ltd, 2004) Mergen, A; Kayed, TS; Bilen, M; Qasrawi, AF; Gürü, MBoron oxide has been found to be useful flux for the preparation of dense anorthite ceramics (CaO.Al2O3.2SiO(2)). Inexpensive starting materials of kaolinite, calcium carbonate and silica were used for anorthite ceramic production. Colemanite (2CaO.3B(2)O(3).5H(2)O) was added into the mixtures and the effects of colemanite upon the transformation towards anorthite and on the densification were investigated between 900-1400 degreesC. Single phase anorthite ceramic formed at lower temperatures in boron containing mixtures. Boron containing powder compacts were sintered above 90% theoretical density at 1350 degreesC.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 16Modified Cognitive Complexity Measure(Springer-verlag Berlin, 2006) Misra, SanjayIn cognitive functional size measure, the functional size is proportional to weighted cognitive complexity of all internal BCS's and number of input and output. This paper proposes the modification in cognitive functional size complexity measure. The proposed complexity measure is proportional to total occurrence of operators and operands and all internal BCS's. The operators and operands are equally important in design consideration. Thus, the contribution of the operators, operands and cognitive aspects complete the definition of a complexity measure in terms of cognitive. Accordingly, a new formula is developed for calculating the modified cognitive complexity measure. An attempt has also been made to evaluate modified cognitive complexity measure in terms of nine Weyuker's properties, through examples. It has been found that seven of nine Weyuker's properties have been satisfied by the modified cognitive complexity measure and hence establishes as a well-structured one.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1On Euler's differential methods for continued fractions(Kent State University, 2006) Khrushchev, Sergey; MathematicsA differential method discovered by Euler is justified and applied to give simple proofs to formulas relating important continued fractions with Laplace transforms. They include Stieltjes formulas and some Ramanujan formulas. A representation for the remainder of Leibniz's series as a continued fraction is given. We also recover the original Euler's proof for the continued fraction of hyperbolic cotangent.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 7Normalizing relational database schemas using mathematica(Springer Verlag, 2006) Yazici,A.; Karakaya,Z.In this paper, basic relational database (DB) normalization algorithms are implemented efficiently as Mathematica modules. It was observed that, Mathematica provided a straightforward platform as opposed to previous ones, mainly Prolog based tools which required complex data structures such as linked list representations with pointers. A Java user interface called JMath-Norm was designed to execute the Mathematica modules in a systematic way. For this purpose, Mathematical Java link facility (JLink) is utilized to drive the Mathematica kernel. JMath-Norm provides an effective interactive tool in an educational setting for teaching DB normalization theory. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 25Blockage/Shadowing and Polarization Measurements at 2.45ghz for Interference Evaluation Between Bluetooth and Ieee 802.11 Wlan(2001) Kara,A.; Bertoni,H.L.We present measurement results at 2.45 GHz to evaluate blockage shadowing and fading effects due to furniture and people next to terminals for short range indoor communication systems. The followings are the results: people crossing the link near to a terminal can cause fading up to 20dB which is more than furniture blockage measured of about 5-13dB depending on objects over the links, polarization coupling was also measured by using dual polarized antenna at receiving end, and coupling is higher for obstructed links, which suggests polarization diversity.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2Influence of Heat Treatment and Grinding Conditions on Surface Residual Stresses in the Production of Rollers(Trans Tech Publications Ltd, 2006) Güley,V.; Tekkaya,A.E.; Savaş,T.; Özhan,F.; Gueley, VolkanThe aim of this study is to investigate surface residual stresses after heat treatment and grinding processes in the production of rollers. The residual stresses were measured using the X-ray diffraction method utilizing chromium radiation, which has an average penetration depth of 5 μm incident on AISI-E52100 (100Cr6) ball bearing steel. Taguchi design of experiments (DOE) is applied to define the set of experiments for grinding, which facilitates evaluation of the individual influences of process parameters on residual stresses and also eliminates unnecessary experiments. Response of residual stresses to each parameter is evaluated with the help of the results of residual stress measurements by X-ray diffraction. In grinding with aluminum oxide wheels, it was concluded that the lower the cutting speed and the higher the workpiece speed the higher the magnitude of surface compressive residual stresses. Higher compressive stresses were measured in axial direction compared to the circumferential direction after the grinding process.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 2Symbolic Polynomial Interpolation Using Mathematica(Springer-verlag Berlin, 2004) Yazici, A; Altas, I; Ergenc, TThis paper discusses teaching polynomial interpolation with the help of Mathematica. The symbolic power of Mathematica is utilized to prove a theorem for the error term in Lagrange interpolating formula. Derivation of the Lagrange formula is provided symbolically and numerically. Runge phenomenon is also illustrated. A simple and efficient symbolic derivation of cubic splines is also provided.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 5Gezgin & Gezgin-2: Adaptive Real-time İmage Processing Subsystems For Earth Observing Small Satellites(IEEE Computer Soc, 2006) Ismailoǧlu,N.; Benderli,O.; Yeşil,S.; Sever,R.; Okcan,B.; Şengül,O.; Öktem,R.GEZGİN and GEZGİN-2 are real-time multi-spectral image processing subsystems developed for BİLSAT-1 and RASAT satellites respectively, the first two earth observing small satellites of Turkey, Main functionality of these subsystems is to compress in real-time multi-spectral images received concurrently from imagers, using JPEG2000 Image Compression algorithm. The compression features are controlled through user-supplied parameters uploaded in-orbit, so that the compression rate could be adapted to bandwidth, image quality and other mission requirements. GEZGİN employs both reconfigurable hardware and a DSP processor for image processing, where as the more advanced GEZGİN-2 contains full integration of the JPEG2000 processing path plus other image pre-processing features on reconfigurable hardware, hence offering increased performance and full re-configurability in orbit. Both systems demonstrate space-tailored architectures for implementing image processing functions where adaptability becomes the crucial issue determining robustness, flexibility and survivability of the system. © 2006 IEEE.Conference Object Citation - Scopus: 2Handling Nat Traversal and Mobility for Multimedia Traffic(2006) Gaylani,N.; Erten,Y.M.Network Address Translator (NAT) traversal is a problem for many applications because a host in a private network cannot be contacted by a node which is outside this network unless the communication is initiated by the host itself. This restriction poses further problems when one of the hosts moves during an active session to a new location which is also behind a NAT. In this study we have proposed solutions to the above problems based on Mobile IP and SIP messaging. Our solutions are based on hole punching and the assumption that the hosts already know the details of each other. Hence it will not be required to consult the proxy or location servers when reestablishing the communication and this should reduce the required handoff time. © 2006 IEEE.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 5Assessment of Nitrogen Excess in an Agricultural Area Using a Nitrogen Balance Approach(I W A Publishing, 2005) Muhammetoglu, H; Muhammetoglu, A; Soyupak, SA pilot study has been initiated to develop an approach for quantification of nitrogen excesses from agricultural activities that involve greenhouse farming in Kumluca Plain, Turkey. Detailed calculations utilizing the nitrogen balance method (NBM) were carried out at nine different locations within the plain over a time period of one year. The major contributing factors and governing operative mechanisms taken into consideration were nitrogen application rates both as organic and chemical fertilizers, irrigation water to application practices, and nitrogen uptake by plants. The adopted approach yielded valuable information such as plant nitrogen uptake efficiencies, excess nitrogen, leaching rates and leachate nitrogen concentrations. Further, a site specific multiple linear regression model has been developed to estimate the ratio (N-leachate/N-groundwater) as a function of independent variables: farming age, excess nitrogen application and SEEPAGE Index Number. The negative sign of the model parameters implies that the ratio (N-leachate/N-groundwater) decreases as values of the independent variables increase. The adopted approach and the obtained results can beneficially be applied to similar sites to establish basic parameters of irrigation and fertilizer application operations.
