Article Citation - WoS: 12Citation - Scopus: 12Mutual Correlation of Nist Statistical Randomness Tests and Comparison of Their Sensitivities on Transformed Sequences(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2017) Doganaksoy, Ali; Sulak, Fatih; Uguz, Muhiddin; Seker, Okan; Akcengiz, ZiyaRandom sequences are widely used in many cryptographic applications and hence their generation is one of the main research areas in cryptography. Statistical randomness tests are introduced to detect the weaknesses or nonrandom characteristics that a sequence under consideration may have. In the literature, there exist various statistical randomness tests and test suites, defined as a collection of tests. An efficient test suite should consist of a number of uncorrelated statistical tests each of which measures randomness from another point of view. `Being uncorrelated' is not a well-defined or well-understood concept in the literature. In this work, we apply Pearson's correlation test to measure the correlation between the tests. In addition, we define five new methods for transforming a sequence. Our motivation is to detect those tests whose results are invariant under a certain transformation. To observe the correlation, we use two methods. One is the direct correlation between the tests and the other is the correlation between the results of a test on the sequence and its transformed form. In light of the observations, we conclude that some of the tests are correlated with each other. Furthermore, we conclude that in designing a reliable and efficient suite we can avoid overpopulating the list of test functions by employing transformations together with a reasonable number of statistical test functions.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 3Spectral Approach To Derive the Representation Formulae for Solutions of the Wave Equation(Hindawi Publishing Corporation, 2012) Guseinov, Gusein Sh.Using spectral properties of the Laplace operator and some structural formula for rapidly decreasing functions of the Laplace operator, we offer a novel method to derive explicit formulae for solutions to the Cauchy problem for classical wave equation in arbitrary dimensions. Among them are the well-known d'Alembert, Poisson, and Kirchhoff representation formulae in low space dimensions.Article Nonspesifik Kronik Boyun Ağrısı Olan Akademik Personelde İleri Baş Postürünü Etkileyen Faktörlerin Karşılaştırılması: Tanımlayıcı Çalışma(2024) Yelvar, Gul Deniz Yilmaz; Cirak, Yasemin Buran; Begen, Sena Nur; Arslan, Fatma Cansu Aktaş; Uluğ, Naime; Kılıç, ErdenAmaç: Çalışmanın amacı, nonspesifik kronik boyun ağrısı olan akademik personelde ileri baş pozisyonuna etkileyen faktörlerin karşı laştırılmasıdır. For the engineering students, there are different methods to increase the level of creativity. Also, the unusual designs stimulate the students' creativity helping them to think innovatively. The assessment tool CEDA (Creative Engineering Design Assessment) is applied with minor modifications (CEDA-modified) to measure creativity in IE 101 Introduction to Engineering course. The CEDA score is modified by using AHP method to decrease the subjectivity of the assessment criteria. The study is applied to 49 industrial engineering students as an exam question. The question asked requires developing five advantages to an unusual design given. Male students developed more ideas compared to female students when they face with unusual design. More designs may be required to discuss through out the term and a proper term project that requires more design may be submitted to increase the success level.Review Citation - WoS: 152Citation - Scopus: 194Challenges and Best Practices in Industry-Academia Collaborations in Software Engineering: a Systematic Literature Review(Elsevier, 2016) Garousi, Vahid; Petersen, Kai; Ozkan, BarisContext: The global software industry and the software engineering (SE) academia are two large communities. However, unfortunately, the level of joint industry-academia collaborations in SE is still relatively very low, compared to the amount of activity in each of the two communities. It seems that the two 'camps' show only limited interest/motivation to collaborate with one other. Many researchers and practitioners have written about the challenges, success patterns (what to do, i.e., how to collaborate) and anti-patterns (what not do do) for industry-academia collaborations. Objective: To identify (a) the challenges to avoid risks to the collaboration by being aware of the challenges, (b) the best practices to provide an inventory of practices (patterns) allowing for an informed choice of practices to use when planning and conducting collaborative projects. Method: A systematic review has been conducted. Synthesis has been done using grounded-theory based coding procedures. Results: Through thematic analysis we identified 10 challenge themes and 17 best practice themes. A key outcome was the inventory of best practices, the most common ones recommended in different contexts were to hold regular workshops and seminars with industry, assure continuous learning from industry and academic sides, ensure management engagement, the need for a champion, basing research on real world problems, showing explicit benefits to the industry partner, be agile during the collaboration, and the co-location of the researcher on the industry side. Conclusion: Given the importance of industry-academia collaboration to conduct research of high practical relevance we provide a synthesis of challenges and best practices, which can be used by researchers and practitioners to make informed decisions on how to structure their collaborations. Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 10Ann-Assisted Forecasting of Adsorption Efficiency To Remove Heavy Metals(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2019) Buaısha, Magdi; Balku, Şaziye; Yaman, Şeniz ÖzalpIn wastewater treatment, scientific and practical models utilizing numerical computational techniques suchas artificial neural networks (ANNs) can significantly help to improve the process as a whole through adsorption systems. In the modeling of the adsorption efficiency for heavy metals from wastewater, some kinetic models have been used such as pseudo first-order and second-order. The present work develops an ANN model to forecast the adsorption efficiency of heavy metals such as zinc, nickel, and copper by extracting experimental data from three case studies. To do this, we apply trial-and-error to find the most ideal ANN settings, the efficiency of which is determined by mean square error (MSE) and coefficient of determination (R2). According to the results, the model can forecast adsorption efficiency percent (AE%) with a tangent sigmoid transfer function (tansig) in the hidden layer with 10 neurons and a linear transferfunction (purelin) in the output layer. Furthermore, the Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm is seen to be most ideal for training the algorithm for the case studies, with the lowest MSE and high R2 . In addition, the experimental results and the results predicted by the model with the ANN were found to be highly compatible with each other.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2The Detailed Transseptal Puncture Technique for Optimal Closure in Patients With a Patent Foramen Ovale(Frontiers Media Sa, 2024) Ilkay, Erdogan; Saricam, Ersin; Kacmaz, Fehmi; Yakici, Aysel; Koca, Cigdem; Ozeke, Ozcan; Onal, Mehmet ZulkufBackground The closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) using transseptal puncture has particular advantages and disadvantages. Thus, transseptal puncture should be re-evaluated in detail. Aims We aimed to assess the effectiveness of the detailed transseptal puncture technique in patients who underwent PFO closure due to cryptogenic stroke or transient ischemic attack in terms of residual shunts and atrial fibrillation. Methods We prospectively analyzed 144 consecutive patients who underwent PFO closure by the detailed transseptal puncture technique between February 2013 and April 2023 in two centers. All of the patients had a >10 mm long-tunnel PFO. Results The procedural success rate was 100%. However, after the procedure, moderate pericardial effusion developed in one patient (0.7%) and an acute pulmonary embolism related to femoral vein thrombosis was observed in one patient (0.7%) during the first month. Complications related to the procedure were noted in two patients (1.4%) during the first month of follow-up. Residual shunts were observed in 1.4% of cases after PFO closure. Conclusion We demonstrated that the detailed transseptal technique is safe and effective for PFO closure. The detailed transseptal PFO closure technique significantly reduced the risk of atrial fibrillation, and the occurrence of residual shunts was significantly low following the closure.Article Citation - WoS: 21Citation - Scopus: 23Best Proximity Points of Generalized Almost Ψ-Geraghty Contractive Non-Self(Springer international Publishing Ag, 2014) Aydi, Hassen; Karapinar, Erdal; Erhan, Inci M.; Salimi, PeymanIn this paper, we introduce the new notion of almost psi-Geraghty contractive mappings and investigate the existence of a best proximity point for such mappings in complete metric spaces via the weak P-property. We provide an example to validate our best proximity point theorem. The obtained results extend, generalize, and complement some known fixed and best proximity point results from the literature.Article Dance of the Corporate Veils: Shareholder Liability in the United States of America and in the Republic of Turkey(2008) Davıs, B. E. Wendy; Hızır, SerdarThe foundation of corporate law is the existence of a legal entity separate from its shareholders, thus shielding shareholders from liability for corporate obligations. Courts have rarely, and with trepidation, pierced through this corporate veil to impose liability on shareholders for corporate malfeasance. These instances have become more common in recent decades, suggesting that corporate investors and parent corporations acquiring subsidiaries need to be diligent to minimize their risk. In this article two academicians discuss the consequences of wrongdoing and mismanagement underlying the pros and cons of the systems adapted by both countries.
