Unpacking the Black Box: Exploring the Intersection of Trust and Machine Learning
    (Taylor and Francis, 2024) Asbaş,C.; Sözen,H.C.; Tuzlukaya,Ş.E.
Artificial intelligence can be defined as the efforts and methods to provide computers and information and communication technology elements with the competencies of human beings, artificially and virtually, in terms of analyzing, synthesizing, interpreting, inferring, thinking, and evaluating. Unlike previous traditional paradigms, artificial intelligence applications operate adaptively, consisting of various feedback loops during their performance to achieve computations with higher accuracy and success. The process and ability of artificial intelligence to be trained using specific methods with given data is called machine learning. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly intertwined with human life, the issue of trust in this technology has also come to the forefront. In this chapter, we explore the intersection of trust and machine learning, delving into the details of the factors that contribute to trust in this technology and the potential consequences of a lack of trust. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Joanna Paliszkiewicz and Jerzy Gołuchowski; individual chapters, the contributors.

    Spirituality in Nonprofit Organizations
    (Emerald Publishing, 2023) Asbaş,C.; Tuzlukaya,Ş.E.
Spirituality refers to the relationship that individuals have with something greater than themselves. It is an inner experience that includes a sense of transcendence, a connection to a higher power, or a sense of purpose or meaning. Nonprofit organizations can be defined as a unique category of organizations whose primary goal is not to make a profit. They represent a wide range of collective action and have long been collaborators with public governance systems in both developed and developing economies. In the current socioeconomic structure, nonprofit organizations have become prominent policy actors, responsible for producing and distributing goods and services. To fulfill their responsibilities, these organizations rely on spirituality as a means of obtaining resources. While contemporary nonprofit organizations have evolved from religious charities of the past, it would be incorrect to suggest that religious influences have disappeared completely. In fact, today's nonprofit organizations and charity sector exist on a spectrum that can be defined along a religious - secular axis, under the influence at different levels. As modern nonprofit organizations are directly affected by contemporary organizational processes and principles, it is essential to examine spirituality in such organizations, regardless of whether they are religiously affiliated or not. This chapter examines the relationship between spirituality and nonprofit organizations, while also assessing their organizational effectiveness, career opportunities, leadership approaches, teamwork, job satisfaction and job dedication, in terms of spirituality and spiritual intelligence not only from a religious and cultural perspective, but also from an organizational one. © 2024 Caner Asbas and Sule Erdem Tuzlukaya. Cyberwarfare: War Activities in Cyberspace
(IGI Global, 2023) Asbaş,C.; Tuzlukaya, Şule; Tuzlukaya,Ş.E.; Tuzlukaya, Şule; Business; Business
With today's changes in war doctrines, the areas where war is undertaken are highly diversified, in addition to the traditional land, air and, sea classifications. One of these areas is cyberspace, where all the activities are waged in this field by exploiting the advantages such as accessibility, availability, cheapness, convenience, anonymity, independence from distance and defense - attack asymmetry called cyberwarfare. Cyberwarfare is the use of cyberattacks by a state or an organization to cause harm to another state's or organization's computer information systems, computer networks and computer infrastructures in the context of warfare. The rationale behind these objectives is similar to other types of warfare, as cyberwarfare is both a dimension of actual warfare and stand-alone war area. In this chapter, cyberwarfare and related phenomena will be extensively discussed. © 2023, IGI Global. All rights reserved.

The New Agricultural Revolution: Agriculture 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence Applications in Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery
    (IGI Global, 2024) Asbaş,C.; Tuzlukaya,S.E.
Artificial intelligence constitutes one of the hottest topics in terms of new technological paradigms today. On the other side, agriculture, forestry, and fishery sectors play a key role for humanity since people's food are produced and needs of various sectors including medicine, textile, furniture and construction are met with the activities in these areas. In this context, it was inevitable that artificial intelligence has been integrated into these areas to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, optimization, and fertility of agriculture, forestry and fishery activities, similar to previous technological developments such as mechanization and digitalization. Due to participatory, flexible, adaptive, and teachable features of artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence technologies and their applications has been implemented in these sectors for various purposes. In this chapter, the uses of artificial intelligence and the related technologies encompassed by Industry 4.0 paradigm in the field of agriculture, forestry, and fishery will be examined and discussed extensively. © 2024, IGI Global. Aviation Cybersecurity: Shielding Against Cyberthreats in the Air
    (IGI Global, 2024) Asbaş,C.; Tuzlukaya,Ş.E.
Cybersecurity is a set of applications specialized for information and communication technology systems. Cybersecurity practices are conducted in cyberspace, and should be conducted both under the limitations and with the opportunities of this complex environment. Dynamic, totalistic, and adaptive approaches are required for cybersecurity; solely technical or financial measures would not be enough to ensure cybersecurity. Instead, a more holistic view that considers all aspects of cybersecurity would be more appropriate. In the aviation sector, where technical aspects are dominant and sensitivities are exceptionally high, it can be directly noticed that the associated complexities are heightened even further. This results in a requirement for a more concrete and detailed understanding and approach for cybersecurity in aviation. In this chapter, cybersecurity approaches and applications in aviation sector will be discussed extensively. © 2024, IGI Global. All rights reserved.

Artificial Intelligence, Dynamic Capabilities, and Business Optimization: Impact on Firm Performance
    (IGI Global, 2023) Kombo,V.; Asbaş,C.; Tuzlukaya,Ş.E.
Artificial intelligence is a recent technological paradigm that mimics human thinking and evaluating ability. It has the potential to transfer human intelligence to informatics systems in business management and transform various business aspects such as information acquisition, product creation, and service utilization. It may also help businesses mitigate threats and capitalize on opportunities. However, some organizations have rushed into its adoption despite their limited operational skills and its high costs. In this context, dynamic capabilities are crucial for a company’s growth, and artificial intelligence can transform the process. This chapter reviewed and analyzed data in the literature to reveal the performance enhancement and productivity improvement led by artificial intelligence in a way that utilizes capabilities, competencies, and resources of firms. © 2023 by IGI Global. The Showcase for Women Leadership in Digitalization Era of the Workplace
    (IGI Global, 2024) Erşayli,Z.E.; Güven,O.; Tuzlukaya,S.E.; Asbaş,C.
The concept of leadership is an important factor that affects the success of organizations. Digitalization and digital transformation have increased the importance of the concept of leadership in the business world. Digitalization is effective on communication and coordination and provides success in competition. Leaders should keep their leadership styles and digital knowledge up to date for corporate success. Among the characteristics that should be presented by a leader are effective communication, problem deconstruction skills, transfer of authority, and empathy. Although the concept of leadership is gender decoupled, differences arise between the distribution of male and female managers in the business world. Gender biases and social stereotypes still limit the number of women in senior leadership positions. As a solution to this situation, a gender quota is being implemented in some countries. In this chapter, the intersection between leadership, women's leadership, digitalization, and the impact of digitalization on women's leadership will be discussed. © 2024, IGI Global.
