    The Reliability and Validity of the Lifespan Sibling Relationship Scale in a Turkish Emerging Adult Sample

    The present study examines the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Lifespan Sibling Relationship Scale (LSRS; Riggio, 2000). A total of 578 (336 female, 242 male) Turkish emerging adults participated in this study. A Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to test construct validity for the original six-factor model of the scale with 48 items. Results of the CFA indicated a good model fit. Furthermore, the second-order CFA result showed that the scale can be scored for both the subdimensions and the test as a whole. Multi-group CFA result revealed that the measured construct is invariant across the genders. The results suggested that the Turkish version of the LSRS had adequate internal consistency and construct validity, indicating that it can be reliably used to measure attitudes toward sibling relationship in emerging adulthood among a Turkish population.

    Mean residual life of coherent systems consisting of multiple types of dependent components

    Mean residual life is a useful dynamic characteristic to study reliability of a system. It has been widely considered in the literature not only for single unit systems but also for coherent systems. This article is concerned with the study of mean residual life for a coherent system that consists of multiple types of dependent components. In particular, the survival signature based generalized mixture representation is obtained for the survival function of a coherent system and it is used to evaluate the mean residual life function. Furthermore, two mean residual life functions under different conditional events on components' lifetimes are also defined and studied.

    Discrete Scan Statistics Generated by Exchangeable Binary Trials

    Let {X-i}(i=1)(n) be a sequence of random variables with two possible outcomes, denoted 0 and 1. Define a random variable S-n,S-m to be the maximum number of Is within any m consecutive trials in {X-i}(i=1)(n). The random variable S-n,S-m is called a discrete scan statistic and has applications in many areas. In this paper we evaluate the distribution of discrete scan statistics when {X-i}(i=1)(n) consists of exchangeable binary trials. We provide simple closed-form expressions for both conditional and unconditional distributions of S-n,S-m for 2m >= n. These results are also new for independent, identically distributed Bernoulli trials, which are a special case of exchangeable trials.
