Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Determination of Lateral Displacements of Laterally Loaded Steel Piles in Cohesionless Soils Using Elastic Curve Equation(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2011) Gurbuz, Ayhan; Department of Civil EngineeringLaterally loaded piles find wide application areas. Some of those application areas of laterally loaded piles are bridge foundations, ports and landslides. Accurate and simple calculation of lateral displacement of laterally loaded piles becomes vital for structure safety. Measured from the ground surface, the distance to the point on the pile where the deformation in the direction of the load (applied at the top of the pile) becomes zero is called the critical depth of pile. Laterally loaded pile faces with passive resistance in front of pile, active resistance at back side of pile and frictional resistance at sides of piles along pile critical length. In this study, pile properties, applied load and resistance forces pile faces are modeled in two-dimensional to determine lateral displacement of pile under lateral load using elasticity curve equations. The measured lateral displacements of three tested laterally loaded steel pipe piles are compared with both the analysis of equations proposed in this study and the analysis results of computer program LPile based on the p-y curves. It is found that the proposed equations to determine lateral displacement of laterally loaded steel piles in cohesionless soils yield to very close result of field measured lateral displacements.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 3Application of Fnbdt/Scip Protocol on Local Area Network and Determination of Limit Values(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2010) Dilli, Orkun; Akcam, Nursel; Koyuncu, Murat; Information Systems EngineeringFast progress in technologies affects all the domains as well as the communication systems. Different types of systems or devices are developed and given to the services without losing time. Although these progresses, in general, have positive effects sometimes they may cause some problems. One of these problems is that the different terminal devices based on ISDN, PSTN and IP cannot communicate end-to-end with each other in a seamless secure way. In this study, FNBDT (Future Narrow Band Digital Terminal)/SCIP (Secure Communication Interoperability Protocol) protocol, which is developed for end-to-end secure communication of different terminal devices communicating on different networks, is tested from different perspectives using terminal emulator on IP Networks. These types of study have great importance in terms of providing some feedbacks to the development of FNBDT/SCIP and, as one of the initial work on this topic, this study will contribute to the future works in the area.Article Citation - WoS: 14Citation - Scopus: 16Bioethanol Production and Potential of Turkey(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2011) Melikoglu, Mehmet; Albostan, Ayhan; Energy Systems EngineeringThe ever increasing demand in global energy consumption makes it inevitable for the development of new energy resources. Turkey imports nearly all of its petroleum and this causes major economical problems. In Turkey, a major cereal producer, production of energy crops will decrease the dependence of petroleum and greenhouse gas emissions. In this context, bioethanol production in Turkey becomes a major alternative to petroleum. According to the results find in this study, with the current agricultural output, none of the crops can be adequate for bioethanol production even 100% of crop harvests were utilized. However, with 4% and 7% of current wheat harvest bioethanol required for the production of E5 and E10 can be achieved. In addition, by utilizing the unused land available for agriculture and planting potato, sugar beet, and wheat (each 100%), 5.8, 8.7 and 13.7 billion litres of bioethanol can be produced and this production will be more than enough to supply Turkey's current demand for gasoline.
