Analyzing the Criteria Affecting Transition To Airplane by Comparing Different Methods
(Mehmet Akif Ersoy Univ, 2022) Reyhanoglu, Izay; Tengilimoglu, Dilaver
This study, using the multi-vehicle approach, discusses the criteria affecting the transition from alternative transportation modes (car, train, bus) to air transportation between city pairs that neither have a hub status nor non-stop flights between them. If these criteria change, the demand for air transportation will increase. For this purpose, a survey was conducted in the provinces of Kayseri and Bursa, which are among the important trade, industry, and tourism centers in Turkey, in the course of three months between January and March, 2018. Logistic regression, the artificial neural network model, and clustering analyses were applied to the data compiled from questionnaires responded to by 501 individuals in Kayseri and 453 individuals in Bursa. According to the empirical findings, it was concluded that the most significant criteria in the transition to air transportation according to all three methods are the cost of travel/ticket price and non-stop flight. Additionally, it was observed that the Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) model made more accurate predictions compared to others. This study is important since it compares three different methods for the purpose of criteria determination concerning the choice of transportation modes.

Mapping the Literature on Thermal Tourism: A Bibliometric and Content Analysis
(Conscientia Beam, 2025) Alqaifi, Faten; Tengilimoglu, Dilaver; Aras, Ilknur Arslan
This study explores and maps the existing literature on thermal tourism to provide comprehensive insights and inform future research directions. The research design is based on a bibliometric analysis of 48 documents published between 2013 and 2023 and indexed in the Web of Science database. Data were processed and visualized using Microsoft Excel and Bibliometrix, followed by a content analysis of 42 English-language articles to capture thematic developments in the field. The findings indicate that, despite a temporary decline during the COVID-19 pandemic, publications on thermal tourism have shown strong growth and recovery, with an annual growth rate of 46.65%. The most significant contributions originated from Portugal, China, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, and Japan, with research disseminated across 37 journals. Four central themes were identified: (1) tourist behaviors and satisfaction, (2) demand and motivations, (3) quality and resource management, and (4) strategic and sustainable development. Among these, tourist behaviors and satisfaction emerged as the most prominent research area, representing 38.10% of the analyzed literature. This paper addresses a gap in the literature by mapping the knowledge landscape in the relatively underexplored field of thermal tourism, highlighting its growth potential and proposing a future research agenda. The practical implications suggest that recognizing these trends and themes can help policymakers, industry stakeholders, and academics develop strategies to enhance sustainable practices and expand opportunities in thermal tourism.

Listening to the Voice of the Patients: The Marketing Function, Market Orientation and Performance in Hospitals in Emerging Markets
(Kamla-raj Enterprises, 2015) Atilla, E. Asuman; Tengilimoglu, Laver; Dursun-Kilie, Tuerkan; Ekiyoe, Aykut
The present study aims to explore to what extent hospitals adopt a market orientation as their corporate marketing strategy in an emerging-market context which poses many macro-level challenges for health care organizations due to its strong need for economic development, societal development, better quality-of- life (QOL), welfare, ethical practices among others. Hospitals that serve in these markets can benefit from a market orientation since a market-oriented strategy enables them to study understand and respond to their health care customers more effectively. Administrators from 400 private hospitals in Turkey were surveyed. A positive connection was found between the level of the hospital's market orientation and the presence of a formal marketing department that serves as the informational bridge between the hospital and the society. The results of this study revealed that market orientation is positively related to general performance of the hospital. The present study also showed that a statistically significant difference exists between the general performance of the hospitals having a formal marketing department and of those not having one. Market-oriented private hospitals perform better compared to their less market-oriented counterparts. A formal marketing department that connects the hospital to its customers and the society at large plays a pivotal role in the development of market-oriented strategies and operations and improves hospital performance. Managerial and public policy implications of the research results were also discussed.

Objectives: To identify issues with Turkeys oral and dental healthcare services and develop recommendations for their effective resolution. Methods: This study analyzes Turkey's oral and dental healthcare system and its problematic issues and surveys other systems and reform strategies being implemented worldwide. The questionnaire-based field survey asked 560 dentists and 84 managers working in public oral and dental healthcare centers in 12 different regions and 52 central and chamber directors affiliated with the Turkish Dental Association about dental health issues and potential restructuring in dental healthcare in Turkey. The survey comprised four sections that, in addition to gathering participant information, inquired into the current overall condition of the Turkish dental healthcare system, the problems necessitating system restructuring, and recommendations to resolve these problems. Results: Participants agree that there are structural and functional problems in Turkey's dental healthcare system. Although there is an overall consensus in regard to the recommendations for resolving the problems, priorities differ among participant groups. However, participants do agree that preventive services in Turkey are insufficient and require improvement. Conclusions: This study exposed issues in oral and dental healthcare services in Turkey that fall into four categories: management and organization, service delivery, human resources, and financing. Based on the results, we propose a new organization model for oral and dental healthcare in Turkey that is integrated within the healthcare system using a public health approach and that prioritizes preventive healthcare services. (Open Access Macedonian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2020) Tengilimoğlu,D.; Tekin,P.Ş.; Zekioğlu,A.; Kılıç,T.D.
BACKGROUND: The high cost of medicines continues to be a major problem in health care. AIM: This study aims to investigate the awareness, attitudes, and behaviors of consumers with regard to the rational use of medicine (RUM) in a developing country context. METHODS: The study was designed as descriptive cross-sectional research. The survey was conducted in the two major cities of Turkey, namely, Ankara and Edirne, whose populations well-represent the socio-economic characteristics of the overall Turkish population between January and March 2016. A total of 2267 individuals participated in the survey. The survey consisted of 37 questions which included statements about various socio-demographic factors and the RUM. Frequencies and percentages were used for the presentation of qualitative data while cross-tabulations and Chi-square tests were utilized for the investigation of the relationships among research variables. RESULTS: According to the findings, 54.7% of participants stated that they request medicine not related to their illness be added to the prescription; only 24.7% of them have heard the term “rational use of medicine.” The distribution of the responses related to handling unused medicines was significant for educational level (p = 0.010; α = 0.05). At the same time, high school and university graduates are also more likely to take medicines in accordance with doctor’s advice compare to the other groups. CONCLUSION: Our study results indicate that consumer awareness of the RUMs is at a low level and more effective consumer awareness campaigns are needed on this issue. © 2020 Dilaver Tengilimoğlu, Perihan Şenel Tekin, Aysu Zekioğlu, Turkan Dursun Kılıç.

Impacts of Covid-19 Pandemic Period on Depression, Anxiety and Stress Levels of the Healthcare Employees in Turkey
(Elsevier Ireland Ltd, 2021) Tengilimoglu, Dilaver; Zekioglu, Aysu; Tosun, Nurperihan; Isik, Oguz; Tengilimoglu, Onur
The COVID-19 pandemic has turned into a public health issue since December 2019 and has risen in all countries in the world. The healthcare employees taking part in the pandemic will eventually be affected by the process. The aim of the study is to determine the levels of the anxiety, depression, and stress of the healthcare employees during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey. As the data collection tool, an e-survey was used. In the first section, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) was used. In the second section of the survey, the problems experienced by the healthcare employees during the pandemic and their working media were aimed to be defined. In the last section, the socio-demographic features of the employees were investigated. 2076 healthcare employees participated in the study. The results showed that the major cause of the anxiety or stress among healthcare employees comes from the fear to contaminate the COVID-19 virus to their families (86.9%). It was observed that the levels of depression, anxiety and stress of female employees are higher than that of male employees (p < 0.003). The highest depression, anxiety and stress levels of healthcare employees come from the pandemic, emergency, and internal services (p < 0.001). Health managers and policymakers need to make a move immediately to find solutions for the physical and psychological needs of the health employees. On the other hand, in order to minimize the risk, preparation of the work power plans beforehand and inclusion of obligatory referral chain into health services can be suggested.
