    Effects of Reflexology and Progressive Muscle Relaxation on Pain, Fatigue, and Quality of Life During Chemotherapy in Gynecologic Cancer Patients
    (Elsevier Science inc, 2019) Dikmen, Hacer Alan; Terzioglu, Fusun
    Purpose: Our aim was to investigate the effect of reflexology and progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) exercises on pain, fatigue, and quality of life (QoL) of gynecologic cancer patients during chemotherapy. Methods: Eighty participants were randomly assigned to one of four groups: reflexology, progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) exercises, both (reflexology + PMR), or a control group. Data were collected with a general data collection form, Brief Pain and Fatigue inventories, and Multidimensional Quality-of-Life Scale-Cancer. Results: In reflexology and reflexology + PMR groups, a significant decrease in pain severity and fatigue and an increase in QoL were found (p < .05). In the PMR alone group, pain severity and fatigue decreased significantly (p < .05), but there was no significant change identified in QOL (p > .05). Conclusions: Reflexology and PMR exercises given to gynecologic cancer patients during chemotherapy were found to decrease pain and fatigue and increase QoL. Nursing Students' Perceived Stress: Interaction With Emotional Intelligence and Self-Leadership
    (Wiley, 2022) Yildirim-Hamurcu, Sevda; Terzioglu, Fusun
    Purpose The aim of the current study was to determine how emotional intelligence and self-leadership levels could be related to perceived stress. Design and Methods A total of 341 nursing students were enrolled in this descriptive correlational study. Study measures included a sociodemographic form, Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Scale, Revised Self-Leadership Questionnaire, and Perceived Stress Scale for Nursing Students. Findings Results showed that ''assignments and workload'' as well as "taking care of patients" were the highest sources of stress in clinical training. The emotional intelligence and self-leadership levels had a significant negative correlation with the perceived stress. Practice Implications Perceived stress affects students' academic and social success negatively. Therefore, it is important to develop students' emotional intelligence levels, self-leadership perceptions.

    Effects of Massage and Acupressure on Relieving Labor Pain, Reducing Labor Time, and Increasing Delivery Satisfaction
    (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2020) Gonenc, Ilknur Munevver; Terzioglu, Fusun
    Background: Several recent studies have documented the effects of massage and acupressure in reducing labor pain and labor time and in satisfaction with the delivery. However, few studies have investigated the comparative effects of these two therapies. Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of massage and acupressure on labor-related pain management, duration, and satisfaction with delivery. Methods: This randomized controlled trial (n = 120) included three intervention groups (massage only, acupressure only, and massage + acupressure) and one control group, in which patients received no massage or acupressure treatment. A personal information form, Pregnant Watch Form, and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were used to collect data. Frequency and percentage calculations, chi-square test, Student's t test, Tukey's honestly significant difference test, and one-way variance analysis were used for data analysis. Results: In the latent phase of labor, the mean VAS scores of the massage-only group and massage + acupressure group were lower (4.56 +/- 1.36 and 4.63 +/- 1.52, respectively) than that of the control group (6.16 +/- 1.46; p < .01). In the active and transition phases, the mean VAS scores of the massage-only group, acupressure-only group, and massage + acupressure group were significantly lower than that of the control group (p < .01 and p < .001, respectively). During postpartum, the mean VAS score of the massage + acupressure group was lower (2.30 +/- 0.70) than that of the control group (2.96 +/- 0.72; p = .003). Cervical dilatation completion time and 1- and 5-minute Apgar scores were similar among all of the groups (p > .05). The three intervention groups reported relatively more positive feelings than the control group, and all three of the interventions were found to be effective in improving satisfaction.

    ŞİDDETİN FARKLI BİR YÜZÜ: FLÖRT ŞİDDETİ, ETKİLERİ VE ETKİLEYEN FAKTÖRLER
    (2018) Yıldırım, Sevda; Terzioğlu, Füsun
    Şiddetin alt dallarından biri olan ve genellikle ergenler ve gençleri etkileyen flört şiddeti “çiftlerin flörtilişkisinde birbirine karşı sözel, cinsel, duygusal ve fiziksel şiddet ya da şiddet içeren davranışlar uygulaması vebirbirlerinin davranışlarına sosyal kısıtlamalar getirmesidir”. Flört şiddeti sadece endişe verici yaygınlığınedeniyle değil, fiziksel ve zihinsel sağlık üzerine olan olumsuz etkileri nedeniyle de toplumda görülen önemli birproblemdir. Flört şiddetinin neden olduğu bazı sorunlar anksiyete, depresyon, intihar girişimleri, alkol kullanımıve riskli cinsel davranışlardır. Flört şiddeti; fiziksel, psikolojik/duygusal, sözel ve cinsel şiddet olarak ortayaçıkmaktadır ve ebeveynler tarafından cezalandırılma, flört şiddeti mağduru arkadaşın varlığı, toplumsal cinsiyetrollerine ilişkin geleneksel kalıp yargıların benimsenmesi, alkol/madde kullanımı gibi bazı faktörler flört şiddetiriskini arttırmaktadır. Sorunun çözümüne yönelik olarak atılması gereken adımlar flört şiddeti farkındalığınınarttırılması ve risk faktörlerinin tanımlanmasıdır. Flört şiddetinin önlenmesi, tanılanması ve tedavisine yönelikolarak hemşirelerin de önemli rolleri bulunmaktadır.

    Anxiety and Depression After Cesarean: Non-Pharmacological Evidence Based Practices;
    (Dokuz Eylul University, 2022) Terzioğlu,F.; Gençbaş,D.; Boztepe,H.; Doğu,N.; Akdeniz,C.; Yüceer,B.
    The purpose of this review is to examine the non-pharmacological evidence-based practices of anxiety and depression after a cesarean section delivery. Postpartum anxiety and depression have increased in the last decade, the rates of postpartum depression are around 13% worldwide. In the postpartum period, women may experience anxiety and depression due to the operation they have undergone; such as being in an unfamiliar environment, facing new technological equipment and encounters with the medical teams, the post-operative pain, the new roles women undertake as mothers. One of the factors that increase anxiety and depression in the postpartum period is the type of delivery. In Turkey, the rate of cesarean delivery is comparatively high, which is approximately 52%. Anxiety and depression after cesarean section develop due to fear and concern such as the complications that may occur during and after the mother's anesthesia, the possibility delaying breastfeeding her baby, and experiencing pain. Non-pharmacological evidence-based applications such as reiki, acupressure, hand and foot massage, yoga, reflexology, aromatherapy, skin to skin care, nursing care protocols were found to be effective in studies conducted to reduce anxiety and depression after cesarean-section. Nurses who have critical roles and responsibilities in pre-and post-cesarean care practices are recommended to include these evidence-based non-pharmacological practices in routine care practices. © 2022, Dokuz Eylul University. (Churchill Livingstone, 2020) Uslu-Sahan, Fatma; Terzioglu, Fusun
    Background: Preprofessional palliative care education may be inadequate, leaving a gap in health professional students' knowledge and understanding of managing patients with gynecologic cancer and their families. Interprofessional simulation-based training may be useful in helping health professional students gain the necessary skills required for palliative care. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of different simulation methods used for interprofessional training on gynecologic oncology palliative care knowledge, interdisciplinary education perceptions, and teamwork attitudes of health professional students and to compare these methods. Design: A comparative randomized controlled trial was conducted with a pre-test and two post-tests. Settings: This study was conducted at a university in Ankara, Turkey, in 2016-2017. Participants: A convenience sample of 84 interprofessional students (nursing, medical, nutrition-dietician, and social work) was used in the study. Methods: Students were stratified by their profession and randomized by four blocks into high-fidelity simulation, hybrid simulation, and a control group. Data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire form, palliative care knowledge test, interdisciplinary education perception scale, and teamwork attitudes questionnaire. Results: The high-fidelity simulation and hybrid simulation groups improved their palliative care knowledge, interdisciplinary education perception, and teamwork attitudes from pre-test to first and second post-tests compared to the control group. Conclusion: The introduction of high-fidelity simulation and hybrid simulation or hybrid simulation-based interprofessional training in undergraduate education can increase students' palliative care knowledge, interdisciplinary education perception, and teamwork attitudes. Training programs that are used together with highfidelity simulation and hybrid simulation applications in interdisciplinary training should be integrated into the undergraduate curricula of future cooperating health professions.
