In this study, the distribution of the dominant bacteria present in the microbiota of herby cheese samples (n = 13) were examined by the next generation sequencing (NGS) technique. DNA was extracted both directly from cheese samples and after pre-enrichment. The metagenomic analysis of the NGS results revealed that Firmicutes were dominant both in DNA directly extracted from herby cheese (KOP), and pre-enriched samples (OP), at the phylum level. At the genus level, Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, and Streptococcus were dominant in the KOP samples, whereas in the OP samples, Enterococcus, Streptococcus, and Bacillus were determined as the dominant bacterial genera. Although Lactococcus raffinolactis and Streptococcus salivarius were dominant in the KOP samples, Enterococcus faecalis and S. salivarius were dominant in the OP samples. The Shannon species diversity index and principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) were used to determine the distribution in KOP and OP samples at the genus level. The PCoA of KOP-10, KOP-11, KOP-2, and KOP-7, KOP-3, and KOP-6 samples showed the wide distribution, whereas KOP-5, KOP-8, KOP-9, and KOP-14 herby cheese samples were closely related. The OP samples, especially OP-7 and OP-14, showed wide distribution in comparison to other OP samples. This suggests that the free carrier activation mechanisms form a continuum in a large temperature scale (300 K - 858 K) and the metastable amorphous phase can be treated as a supercooled liquid. The effective activation energy calculated using the resistivity versus temperature data follow a parabolic behavior, with a room temperature value of 333 meV, peaking to similar to 377 meV at similar to 465 K and reaching zero at similar to 930 K, using a reference activation energy of 111 meV (3k(B)T/2) at melt. Amorphous GST is expected to behave as a p-type semiconductor at T-melt similar to 858 K and transitions from the semiconducting-liquid phase to the metallic-liquid phase at similar to 930 K at equilibrium. The simultaneous Seebeck (S) and resistivity versus temperature measurements of amorphous-fcc mixed-phase GST thin-films show linear S-T trends that meet S = 0 at 0 K, consistent with degenerate semiconductors, and the dS/dT and room temperature activation energy show a linear correlation. The single-crystal fcc is calculated to have dS/dT = 0.153 mu V/K-2 for an activation energy of zero and a Fermi level 0.16 eV below the valance band edge. It was also investigated whether the mirror neuron system activity is muscle-specific. Fourteen healthy volunteers were enrolled in the study. EMG recordings were taken from the right first dorsal interosseous and the abductor digiti minimi muscles. There was a significant main effect of TMS timing (after the beginning of the movement, at the beginning of motor output state, and during black screen) on the mean motor evoked potential (MEP) amplitude. Mean MEP amplitudes for AO combined with MI were significantly higher than pure AO session. There was a significant interaction between session and TMS timing. There was no significant main effect of muscle on MEP amplitude. The results indicate that corticomotor excitability is modulated by different phases of the observed motor movement and this modulation is not muscle-specific. Simultaneous MI and AO enhance corticomotor excitability significantly compared to pure AO.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 6Analysis of the Effect of Propellant Temperature on Interior Ballistics Problem(Yildiz Technical Univ, 2018) Evci, C.; Isik, H.This study investigates the effect of conditioning temperature of double base propellants on the interior ballistic parameters such as burning gas temperature, barrel wall temperature, pressure and stresses generated in the barrel. Interior ballistic problem was solved employing experimental, numerical and analytical methods with a thermo-mechanical approach. Double base propellants were conditioned at different temperatures ( 52, 35, 21, 0, -20, -35, -54 degrees C). The maximum pressure in the barrel and projectile muzzle velocity were measured for all the propellants by conducting shooting tests with a special test barrel using 7.62x51 mm NATO ammunition. Vallier-Heydenreich method was employed to determine the transient pressure distribution along the barrel. The temperature of burnt gases was calculated by using Noble-Abel equation. The heat transfer analysis was done using the commercial software ANSYS to get the transient temperature and stress distributions. Temperature distribution through the barrel wall thickness was validated using a FLIR thermal imager. Radial, circumferential and axial stresses and corresponding equivalent Von Misses stresses were determined numerically and analytically. The results of the analytical solution for stress analysis validated the finite element solution of interior ballistic problem. Increasing the initial temperature of the propellant resulted in higher temperature and pressure inside the barrel which in turn increased the stresses in the barrel.Article Analysis of Thermoluminescence Glow Peaks in Β-Irradiated Tlgases Crystals(Polish Acad Sciences inst Physics, 2016) Isik, M.; Yildirim, T.; Gasanly, N. M.Thermoluminescence properties of TlGaSeS layered single crystals were investigated in the temperature range of 280-720 K. Thermoluminescence glow curve exhibited three peaks with maximum temperatures of approximate to 370, 437, and 490 K. Curve fitting, initial rise and peak shape methods were used to determine the activation energies of the trapping centers. All applied methods resulted with energies around 0.82, 0.91, and 0.99 eV. Dose dependence of the thermoluminescence intensity was also examined for the doses in the range of 0.7-457.6 Gy. Peak maximum intensity of the observed peak around 370 K showed an increase up to a certain dose and then a decrease at higher doses. This non-monotonic dose dependence was discussed under the light of a reported model in which different kinds of competition between radiative and nonradiative recombination centers during excitation or heating stages of the thermoluminescence process are explained.Article Anatomical and Clinical Evaluation of Tympanic Tegmen and Mastoid Bone With Multidetector Computed Tomography(Soc Chilena Anatomia, 2023) Sever, Sinem Nur; Cetin, Huseyin; Caliskan, Selma; Akkasoglu, SinemTegmen level and mastoid bone thickness are important parameters of surgical risk in middle ear and mastoid region surgeries. This retrospective cohort study was conducted to provide a risk classification for the mastoid and middle ear regions. The study population comprised of 300 patients who underwent multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) for various indications. Patients with no pathology that disrupted the structure of the temporal region were included in the study. A risk classification was generated by analyzing the data obtained from mastoid and tympanic tegmen depths and the mastoid bone thickness by MDCT. The mastoid and tympanic tegmen were lower on the right side than on the left. In women, the right-sided mastoid bone thickness and mastoid tegmen were lower, and low-level tympanic and mastoid tegmen on the left and thin right mastoid bones were more common. According to the risk classifications for mastoid and middle ear region surgeries, women demonstrated a higher risk than men. In addition, as the thickness of the mastoid bone increased, the levels of the mastoid and tympanic tegmen increased. This article presents a recently developed mathematical model for integration of the effect of prior forming and cutting operations into heat-treatment simulations by considering "anisotropic transformation strain (ATS)." The model was justified experimentally by simulating the heating and austenitization of dilatometer specimens machined from the forged discs with distinct orientations with respect to the banded microstructure. After the verification, it is used in conjunction with former experimental work to demonstrate that the distribution of fiber flow is one of the important reasons of the dishing of carburized discs. The model provides promising results for process chain simulation to predict the heat-treatment distortion that cannot be predicted with currently available models.Article Annealing Effect on Dark Electrical Conductivity and Photoconductivity of Ga-In Thin Films(Polish Acad Sciences inst Physics, 2018) Isik, M.; Gullu, H. H.Dark-conductivity and photoconductivity properties of thermally evaporated Ga-In-Se (GIS) thin films were investigated in the temperature range of 80-430 K. All measurements were performed on as-grown and annealed GIS thin films at 300 and 400 degrees C to get information about the effect of the annealing temperature on the conductivity properties. Room temperature conductivity was obtained as 1.8 x 10(-8) Omega(-1) cm(-1) for as-grown films and increased to 3.6 x 10(-4) Omega(-1) cm(-1) for annealed films at 400 degrees C. Analysis of the dark-conductivity data of as-grown films revealed nearly intrinsic type of conductivity with 1.70 eV band gap energy. Temperature dependent dark conductivity curves exhibited two regions in the 260-360 and 370-430 K for both of annealed GIS films. Conductivity activation energies were found as 0.05, 0.16 and 0.05, 0.56 eV for films annealed at temperatures of 300 and 400 degrees C, respectively. Pulmonary pulse transit time (pPTT) is a recent echocardiographic marker that might be used for evaluation of pulmonary arterial stiffness (PAS) in patients with HIV infection. We aimed to investigate whether pPTT elevated in patients with HIV infection compared to healthy controls and its association with echocardiographic indices of right ventricular functions. Materials and Methods: Fifty HIV (+) patients from infectious disease outpatient clinics and fifty age- and sex-matched HIV (-) healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study. pPTT was measured from pulmonary vein flow velocity as the time interval between the R-wave in the electrocardiography and corresponding peak late systolic was then calculated as the mean from two separate pw-Doppler measurements. Results: pPTT, tricuspid annular peak systolic excursion (TAPSE) and right ventricle fractional area change (FAC) were significantly lower in patients with HIV than control patients (177.1 +/- 34.9 vs. 215.7 +/- 35.7 msn, P < 0.001; 2.33 +/- 0.28 vs. 2.19 +/- 0.22, P = 0.039; 45 [4.25] vs. 41.1 [4.0], P = 0.032, respectively). pPTT was positively correlated with FAC, TAPSE and cluster of differentiation 4 count (r = 0.210; P = 0.036, r = 0.256; P = 0.041, r = 0.304; P = 0.044, respectively). In this study, bacterial microbiota and chemical properties (acidity, salt, and moisture content) of tarhana samples (n=96) were examined. The metagenomic analysis revealed that Firmicutes were the dominant phylum and Bacillaceae, Enterococcaceae, Paenibacillaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, and Clostridiaceae were the dominant bacterial families. In the samples, Bacillus, Enterococcus, and Paenibacillus were mostly identified at the genus level. Alpha diversity and evenness showed that sample 30 had the highest diversity collected from Izmir. Principal Coordinate Analysis was used to identify relationships of samples at different taxonomic levels and it was found that most of the samples were closely related at the phylum level. Chemical analysis indicated that the acidity of tarhana samples varied between 5.00% and 42.5%, moisture contents were 4.39- 18.66% and salt values were from 0.32% to 6.64%. The results of this study extensively demonstrated the chemical properties and the dominant bacterial communities present in tarhana samples collected from different parts of Turkiye.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 6Balance and Gait in Individuals With Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2024) Korkusuz, Suleyman; Seckinogullari, Busra; Yuruk, Zeliha Ozlem; Ulug, Naime; Kibar, SibelBackground: Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) causes various physical problems such as the increased risk of falling, loss of balance and coordination while standing or walking, susceptibility to injuries due to sensory loss.Aims: The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare the effects of neuropathic pain (NP) in individuals with DPN on balance and gait.Methods: This prospective controlled study was conducted on 42 adults aged between 40-65 years. The participants were divided into three groups; individuals with DPN and NP (DPN+NP/n = 14), individuals with DPN without NP (DPN-NP/n = 14), and the control group (n = 14), respectively. The Force Plate system and Core Balance System measured static and dynamic postural balance and stability limits. Gait and dynamic plantar pressure distribution analyses were performed with a computerized gait evaluation system.Results: The score of LANSS, and VAS during gait were higher in DPN+NP group than in DPN-NP (p < 0.05). No significant difference was observed between the groups in balance parameters (p > 0.05). The right-left heel maximum forces were lower in both groups with DPN compared to the control group (p < 0.05). In terms of spatiotemporal parameters of the gait, there was a difference between the groups only in step width and left single support line parameters (p < 0.05).Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that the individuals with DPN have an increased step width, their left single support line was shortened, and the maximum force on the heel decreased. Meshcherskiy's 'caucasian Travel Diary'(İstanbul University Faculty of Letters, 2021) Gülseven,A.Y.; International RelationsTravel notes and memoirs contain many contents that fill the gaps in official history, and are thus precious material for historians as primary sources. This study aims to explore the historical context of the Battle of Kars during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 by focusing on Vladimir Petrovich Meshcherskiy's travel notes and memoirs on the trip from Moscow to Kars during the war in 1877. Although there is a vast literature on the course and consequences of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, we have little first-hand information from the field to fill the gaps in our knowledge of the developments during and aftermath of the Kars attack. Meshcherskiy's travel diary does not only provide us with a close-up view of the Eastern front of the Russo-Turkish War, but it also sheds light on the attitude of the local people under the Russian siege.
