Charles Dickens'ın 'a Christmas Carol' Eserindeki Kültürel Öğelerin Türkçe Çevirisinin Karşılaştırmalı Analizi

Abstract

Bir edebî eserde yer alan kültürel unsurlar, metnin çevirisinde dikkatle değerlendirilmesi gereken en önemli unsurlardandır. Bu maddelerin çevirisi çeşitli nedenlerle çevirmen için bir zorluk teşkil etmektedir. Bu çalışmada, çevirmenin kültürel öğeler için kullandığı çeviri yöntemlerini ve bu eserlerdeki kültürel öğelerin çevirisinde kullandığı strateji ve sınıflandırmaları ortaya koyarak kültürel öğelerin çeviri süreçlerini belirlemek amacıyla Charles Dickens tarafından yazılan A Christmas Carol ve Bordo Siyah Yayınevi tarafından yayınlanan çevirisi olan Bir Noel Şarkısı seçilmiştir. Bunun için Newmark'ın kültüre özgü öğeleri kategorize etmesi ve bu öğelerin çevirisi için sunduğu stratejiler benimsenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda çevirmenin, kaynak metinde yer alan kültürel ifadelerin tercümesinde ortaya çıkabilecek sorunların aşılması ve erek kültür ve erek okuyucuda aynı etkinin yaratılması adına ortaya çıkabilecek sorunların üstesinden gelmek adına uyarlama, deyimsel çeviri stratejisi, birebir çeviri stratejisi ve iletişimsel çeviri stratejisi gibi kültürel eşdeğerlik stratejilerini kullandığı tespit edilmiştir.Cultural elements in a literary work are among the most important elements that should be evaluated cautiously in the translation of the text. Translations of these items constitute a challenge for the translator for a variety of reasons. In this study, A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens and its translation, Bir Noel Şarkısı published by Bordo Siyah Publishing were chosen to determine the translation processes of the cultural elements by revealing the translation methods used for these elements. In order to do so, Newmark's categorization of culture-specific items and his strategies provided for the translation of these items were adopted. As a result of the study, it was determined that the translator used the strategies of cultural equivalence such as adaptation, idiomatic translation strategy, literal translation strategy, communicative translation strategy for the sake of overcoming the problems that may arise in the translation of cultural expressions in the source text and creating the same effect in the target culture and for the target audience.
