George Orwell, Hayvan Çiftliği ve William Golding Sineklerin Tanrısı Romanlarındaki Hegemonyanın Tasviri

Abstract

Hegemonyagücü, edebi çalışmalarda sık sık karşımıza çıkan bir sosyal fenomendir.'Eugemonia' kelimesi Antik Yunan döneminden gelmektedir ve liderlik otoritesinin bir bölgede sürdürülmesi anlamını taşımaktadır. Bu çalışma; George Orwell'in Hayvan Çiftliği, ve William Golding'in Sineklerin Tanrısı, eselerindeki hegemony gücünü incelemektedir. İki romanda da karakterler güçsüz olanları öyle bir bastırıyor ki bastırılan grubun rıza gösterdiğine tanıklık ediyoruz. Hegemonya, baskıcı system ve uygulamalarda kullanılan resmi olmayan bir tabirdir. Power of hegemony is a societal phenomenon that frequently appears in literary works. It comes from the Ancient Greek word eugemonia, which meant to demonstrate leadership authority in a territory. This study examines uses of hegemonic power in Animal Farm by George Orwell, and Lord of the Flies by William Golding. In both of the novels, we witness characters oppressing weaker ones in such a way that the oppressed group consents. Hegemony is frequently used informally as a shorthand for oppressive systems and practises. The study applies Gramsci's theory of hegemony or authority sustained by intellectual or cultural reasons and is generally accomplished through social institutions, which allow those in power to have significant influence on the rest of societal values, conventions, beliefs, aspirations, vision, and behaviour.
