Since 2001, our Department has offered education at an extent that matches the similar Departments of European Universities, with a program that involves theoretical and practical courses within the frameworks of translation and interpretation. The goals that we aim our students to reach involve the utilization of knowledge, behaviors and equipment, interpersonal operation in interpretation, the management of the process of production, expertise in language skills with respect to fields and general culture, and access to information. Our students have no difficulty in being hired upon graduation, having gained an awareness regarding the expectations and the conditions of the professional life through our strong cooperation with the national and the international sector. With French and Russian courses offered for 4 years, our students steal the spotlight in the market, having obtained a C-Language Certificate. Our graduates are employed as freelance interpreters, institution interpreters, regulators as multi-layered language experts, terminology experts, subtitle experts and web localization experts.

Abstract

Küreselleşme ile birlikte, teknik metin çevirileri daha fazla önem kazanmıştır. Teknik metinlerin çevirileri hem kaynak hem de hedef metinde kullanılan özellikli dilden dolayı konu alanında detaylı bilgi sahibi olmayı gerektirmektedir. Özellikli dil terminoloji anlamında yeterli olmayı zorunlu kılar ve çeviri süreci esnasında karşılaşılabilecek güçlükleri aşabilmek için çevirmenler tarafından bir dizi stratejiler kullanılabilir.Bu tezin amacı teknik metin çevirilerinde karşılaşılan güçlükleri aşmak için kullanılan stratejileri hem teknik çevirinin tarihini hem de çeviri kuramlarını özetleyerek sunmaktır. Teknik metinlerin özelliklerine, teknik metinlerde kullanılan dile ve bu metinlerin metin türlerine bu çalışmada özellikle önem verilmiştir. İşlevsel bir sonuç elde edebilmek için İşlevsel Yaklaşımların önemli olduğu düşünülmüştür ve bu yaklaşımlar kapsamında üç adet örnek metin ve çevirileri incelenmiştir. Örnek metinlerin çevirilerinde ödünç alma, özelleştirme, tanımlama ve hedef dilde eşdeğer ifadeleri bulma gibi stratejilerin kullanıldığı belirlenmiştir.Anahtar Sözcükler1. Teknik Çeviri2. With globalization the translation of technical texts gained an importance. Translation of technical texts require deep knowledge about the subject matter since both in the source and target text a specialized language is used. Specialized language necessitates a competency in terminology and a number of strategies can be used by the translators to overcome the challenges that may arise during the process of translation.The purpose of this thesis is to put forth the strategies that can be employed in technical translation to overcome the challenges with providing an outline both from the history of technical translation and from the theories reletad to translation. Special importance is given to the characteristics of technical texts, to the language used in these texts and to their text types. Functionalist Approaches are considered to be important in technical translation for achieving a functional result and three sample texts with their translations are analyzed within the scope of functionalist approaches. Strategies like borrowing, particularization, description and establishing equivalances in the target language are identified in the translations of the sample texts.Key words:1.
