The Atılım University Department of Mathematics was founded in 2000 and it offers education in English. The Department offers students the opportunity to obtain a certificate in Mathematical Finance or Cryptography, aside from their undergraduate diploma. Our students may obtain a diploma secondary to their diploma in Mathematics with the Double-Major Program; as well as a certificate in their minor alongside their diploma in Mathematics through the Minor Program. Our graduates may pursue a career in academics at universities, as well as be hired in sectors such as finance, education, banking, and informatics. Our Department has been accredited by the evaluation and accreditation organization FEDEK for a duration of 5 years (until September 30th, 2025), the maximum FEDEK accreditation period achievable. Our Department is globally and nationally among the leading Mathematics departments with a program that suits international standards and a qualified academic staff; even more so for the last five years with our rankings in the field rankings of URAP, THE, USNEWS and WEBOFMETRIC.

The Atılım University Department of Computer Engineering was founded in 1998. The department curriculum is prepared in a way that meets the demands for knowledge and skills after graduation, and is subject to periodical reviews and updates in line with international standards. Our Department offers education in many fields of expertise, such as software development, hardware systems, data structures, computer networks, artificial intelligence, machine learning, image processing, natural language processing, object based design, information security, and cloud computing. The education offered by our department is based on practical approaches, with modern laboratories, projects and internship programs. The undergraduate program at our department was accredited in 2014 by the Association of Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs (MÜDEK) and was granted the label EUR-ACE, valid through Europe. In addition to the undergraduate program, our department offers thesis or non-thesis graduate degree programs (MS).

Information Systems is an academic and professional discipline which follows data collection, utilization, storage, distribution, processing and management processes and modern technologies used in this field. Our department implements a pioneering and innovative education program that aims to raise the manpower, able to meet the changing and developing needs and expectations of our country and the world. Our courses on current information technologies especially stand out.

Abstract

Team work is considered a valuable teaching technique in higher education. However, the assessment of an individual's work in teams has proved to be a challenging task. Consequently, self- and peer-evaluations are becoming increasingly popular for the assessment of individuals in a team work, though it is essential to determine whether students can judge their ownas well as their peer's performance effectively. Self- and peer-evaluations have been applied in different disciplines and their authenticity with regard to teacher's assessment has been evaluated in the literature but this issue has not been investigated in the field of engineering education so far. In this study, a peer- and self-assessment procedure is applied to the evaluation of a project work conducted in teams of 3 or 4 students. The participants were engineering students taking two similar courses related with database design and development. It is found that a majority of the students were unable to assess themselves as objectively as their instructor. Further, it is observed that successful students tend to under-estimate, whereas unsuccessful students tend to over-estimate, their own performance. The paper also establishes that the results of self-assessments are independent from the gender factor. © 2015 TEMPUS Publications.
